05/13 - 05/15 - Friday Harbor CBGT

The crew of Seaweed had a great time at our first Friday Harbor CBGT. Thanks to everyone who were so welcoming to us and our little 16' C-dory! We were proud to represent the smaller C-dory's! We enjoyed meeting everyone, and their furry friends. :D

I certainly hope we will be able to make some more of these gatherings... this one has had us talking and laughing about since we left Friday Harbor.

Stacy and Jan on C-Change had a great time as well. Thanks Barry and Patti :thup It was great see everyone - both old and new friends. We hope to see you all in Bellingham.

Patty and Berry thank you for a great event again. Thanks for the donated c-dory carpet . Susan has really been wanting one. Thank you pat and Dave for the beer. I had two bottles and really loved it. Might have to hit a Safeway for some more.

We ran out on Friday, a treat for us, and loaded up on shrimp off of ice berg point. Could have gotten more but wanted to get to the party. Great time at dinner Friday night talking with Don and Debbie and their friend.

up early on Saturday to get more shrimp with Don and Dee, Fred and Robbin. We all ended up tied up to the dock at James island. If you have not been there in a while, we had not, you will be surprised by the new docks and bathrooms. They have also graveled the path to the other side of the island and added camping shelter for the kayaks. Looks really nice.

Barry i don't know what type of weather dance you used but apparently it had the right number of steps in it to hold off the rain until after dinner. And thank everyone for the dinner. good food for the hungry.

Susan and I slept in Sunday and most of you where gone by the time we got up for breakfast. Thank you don and Dee for breakfast. that place always has good food. After sitting around the dock Susan and I did a little fishing with out any luck then headed for Deer harbor were we spent the evening talking with the Dreamer crew. Thank you Janet for the great salsa and the even better company, you too Roger.

Monday morning comes with more rain but it cleared by noon. I did a little more fishing and landed one under size but very fat ling cod. That was the second one for the weekend. both where short but fat. After a great lunch while drifting off of north Lopez we decided it was time to head home. Even thu the Coasties were calling a Gale warning we waited until around 5pm to head home. we ran with the end of the incoming tide with a 15 to 20 knot tail wind across Rosario strait. This made for a smooth crossing with only 1 to 2 foot chop. I'm sure in a hour when the tide changed to out going and it ran against the wind it was going to get lumpy and bumpy out there.

thank you gain to every one for a great weekend.

Patti and Berry - please accept our thanks and sincere appreciation for the great time last weekend in Friday Harbor! Your organizational and timing skills were terrific! We enjoyed meeting everyone, just seemed as though there was not enough time to visit more. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again! Have a safe and enjoyable boating season!

David, thanks for the boat inspection too!

Michele and Ron

Thanks to all for the great time, which was cut short for us due to a centain grandson's birthday party in Portland. I owe too many personal "thanks", so I will leave it at thank you C-Brats, the best bunch of characters we have met.
Will the lady that wanted a potato pin please contact us with an adress and I will be glad to mail her a-few. I got pinched for time and sort of forgot with all the hubub going on.
Also, Cheryl is interested in a 25, so whoever wants to get rid of a 25 in the next year or so let us know. I was talking to someone that was moving inland with retirement and maybe selling his boat. So many people and boats. Help! who was it? Contact me.
Next trip for IN CAHOOTS, Idaho will be Yellowstone Lake.
Thank you and see you on the water. Roger

So, we left right after breakfast on Sunday, visibility had gotten a bit better, and the water was completely calm all the way, even Bellingham Bay, or should I say especially Bellingham Bay. Quick trip back, tied up at P Dock with Laurna Jo, a last nice leisurely lunch before pulling out. We dropped Daydream off at Triton Marine at 5:30 pm for installation of a washdown system, thanks to Scott for coming in from his coaching gig in Lynden to meet us there. Finished up with a nice birthday dinner at Billy McHale's for Austin's 20th birthday - he looks a bit different now than he did in 2003!

The three of us had a great time and it really was good timing on the rain! Just bummed we didn't have more time to talk with folks so I guess we will just have to wait for the next gathering. I completely forgot to feed the tip jar so I promise to double up on the next one. I was too busy consuming desserts to think clearly. Thanks to Barry and Patty and all of you who helped keep the event moving smoothly and sorry for all the whining tiny speedboat noise. It was a bit of a test to see if anyone else turns up with some racing competition or micro docking competition next year. I'll supply the mini bouys or micro dock.

We had a nice smooth run across the strait Sunday morning followed by 1-2 then 3-4 ft chop headed south near Kingston before sneaking through Agate passage and back south for 74 gallons of fuel to close the weekend. The boat did great as it seems to always do and Aven enjoyed a couple of movies on the way home. We have a couple of pics I will put in the album soon.

See you on the salt,

Greg

Only marginally related to Friday Harbor, but we did celebrate his 20th Sunday after returning from FH, as noted above. Austin now:

Was going to post with the 2003 picture but couldn't figure out how to download from Patty's Facebook in the time I had!

We finally wrapped up our Friday Harbor cruise today, crossing the Straits on one foot chop at times. We spent Sunday evening at Deer Harbor with a nice visit with Tom & Susan. Monday night, we found reciprocal moorage at the Orcas Island Yacht Club dock in West Sound.

A great 6 days, highlighted by good friends and being on the water.

Wow, what a wonderful event! We thoroughly enjoyed our first on-water get-together - meeting so many enthusiastic Brats, learning new stuff, exploring beautiful Friday Harbor, sampling an amazing variety of seafood and pot-luck dishes...it was so much fun! We posted a few pictures on the event site.

Thanks to Barry and Patti for all their work in organizing the event. And so many prizes! We are pleased to now be able to sport a C-Dory cap and vest.

"Reverend Jim" did a fine job in christening Grey C'Lune - she took us home safely through rather big water across to Blaine on Monday. We had taken a side trip to check out Roche Harbor on Saturday.

There was a bit of that white, frozen-type precipitation falling from the skies as we drove over the high passes to Blind Bay, but it's sunny and warm here now. So it's safe if any of you want to come check out boating in interior BC, eh?

Looking forward to our next meeting...
Lori and Bob

Robbin and I had a great time meeting old friends and new. Great food, shrimping and friendship all you would expect.

Thanks everyone especially Barry and Patty Cakes,
Fred and Robbin

Amy, Teddi and I say thanks to everyone especially the hosts!!!

Made it back to Bellingham Sunday morning around 9:15 am and made breakfast before pulling the boat out. Dropped Amy at Seatac for a business trip and made it back down to Portland safely. Teddi sure is excited to pick her up tonight (Wednesday) in about an hour. She even asked to drive but I said no (even though she practices driving on the weekends).

We sure enjoyed seeing everyone and look forward to the next gathering!

Safe boating and travels to all...

John
