05/13 - 05/15 - Friday Harbor CBGT

I've signed up and plan to be there. I'm hoping we can do a de-naming/christening ceremony for the Tomcat. We've decided to go with the name "Meant to be". Since I feel very fortunate to have obtained this boat and since I have a friend/co-owner who really wanted to be involved with the boat, it seems like this boat was just "meant to be". I'm also hoping we can go through a safety check. Right now, we'd pass everything except for how I have the numbers on the boat. I put them on without leaving a space between the numbers and the letters on either end (idiot move on my part). I'll have to correct that since it's item #1 on the check list.

David, given the number of cruising guides and the number of attendees, maybe they can just go into Barry's contest/prize package. Just a thought.

We were just planning our launch and recovery dates for this event. We noticed that Halibut season will be open Thursday-Saturday 5/5-7/17. Don't know about your marina, but John Wayne in Sequim is a mad house for those days. To avoid this, we plan on launching Wed. evening 5/11, staying at Sequim Bay State Park and crossing the Straits Thursday AM.

We've never tried anchoring in Blind Bay on the North side of Shaw Island, so may do that and arrive in FH Friday AM. It's always fun when there's more Brats if you're so inclined.

We will also spend a few days in the San Juans after the CBGT if anyone wants to join us, that would be great. See you all there. Approaching 40 boats again! :thup

Unfortunately, we're going to have to bow out of this one. We have some engine issues we haven't been able to fix yet and with just moving into the new house we're swamped with work. Maybe next year. Hope you guys all have great weather and fun times!

We are so looking forward to Friday Harbor and are already getting the boat ready. With a little luck we will leave Thursday after work and will cruise into Friday Harbor early in the day on Friday.

We have a few things to do this weekend to get the boat ready. Then getting kicker serviced Friday morning and heading over to FH as soon as it is done. Going to be a good one!

I'd appreciate thoughts on the options of launching from Anacortes. We are planning on launching from there on Friday to head over to friday harbor. We've launched from Washington Park before, but not the marinas.

It seems that Cap Sante is our best bet, but from the website they only have a hoist, and no ramp. I'm assuming they will lift a C-dory (some places don't like the flat bottom C-dory). It seems like they have lots of parking available, and I've heard it's fairly safe to leave truck/trailer there for many days.

I researched Skyline marina, but they don't have a ramp either, and fewer parking spaces.

Any thoughts for people who have launched from Anacortes in the past?

Cap Sante is great. They have a sling launch and can still launch flat-bottom boats like ours even without sling cut-outs. They have plenty of storage for the truck and trailer and it's very safe. Don't ask me how I know. I think the round-trip price is around $35.00. I highly recommend Cap Sante over Twin Bridges or even Washington Park due to the conditions at low tide. I have not launched at Skyline, maybe Warren can chime in.

We will be leaving sometime Friday from Anacortes Marina for anyone who doesn't mind travellibeing seen in the company of a steroidally challenged CD

Be warned that weekend is Trawlerfest in Anacortes so it will be a bit crowded.

I'm sure everyone who has attended a CBGT in the NW has kept their coveted name badges for use this year. If you have not or are coming to Friday Harbor for the first time, contact me right away and I'll get you covered.

E-mail or PM me with:
Your full name(s)
Your boat name
Your boat model
Your boat trim color
Your home town and state.

If you have something boat-related to donate for a trivia contest prize, that would be appreciated. Bring it along.

See you next week,

will be heading to Roche Harbor for customs late aft Thursday ( before 5) so will see you in FH in Friday am. Looking forward to seeing all the folks, George

I keep my CD22 at Skyline - they sling launch it for me when I call ahead , but I'm pretty sure they can do it for one-time customers and $35 (round trip) is what I recall. They have a fuel dock as well. If the weather is at all snotty, it will save some time and going through Guemes Channel (which others have reported can be rough) over Cap Sante (or Twin Bridges). There's a pay lot for parking across the street, or you might get lucky and score a street spot. And Skyline has their own lots that seem sllightly more secure (I think parking is $5/day).

Time to get the last minute stuff out there. First, we're dancing and drumming as fast as we can, latest forecast shows 30% chance of precip on Friday, 20% Saturday, with slow improvement. We have some 40 boats expected so it should be a good time. Don't forget your mylar balloons. The dinner is at Downriggers 5:30 Friday, a special menu is set up for us. We will have lots of goodies for the trivia contest and will give some away by boat name (for the trivia challenged  ). The factory and West Marine have come through with give-aways as well. The Friday Harbor West Marine will be giving us a discount plus coffee and donuts Saturday AM. Rev. Jim will be on hand for christenings/naming/de-naming celebrations, don't forget greenery. The marina is giving us another good deal on moorage, 65 cents/foot. Be sure to identify yourself as being with the C-Dory group when you go to the office to register. Likewise identify yourself as a C-Dory person when you call in for moorage. Remember your nametags and if you cannot find them contact Roger (Dreamer) and he will make new ones if you call right away. As usual we will have a few non-C-Dorys among us, folks who are brats but no longer have a C-Dory (That's why they are called CBGT's instead of CDGT's). Once a Brat, Always a Brat! The potluck is set for Saturday afternoon 5ish with the swapmeet/giveaway of your unwanted boat stuff around the same time. Please be sure to bring things for that. We are bringing books, an anchor, charts, etc. one person's clutter is another's treasure. I'm sure I will think of something more but for now, see you Friday.

Is there a place in downtown FH (or perhaps Anacortes) that sells mylar balloons?

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to you question, however it would seem to me that it would be advantageous for all to purchase their helium filled mylar balloons prior to arriving at Friday Harbor as they could float in the cabin of your vessel thereby lightening your load and providing improved fuel efficiency as your vessel floats freely across the water.

(The C-Dory Dirigible's have arrived..... )

No Pat, individual reservations are not required, we have all of H dock and overflow on G dock. To get our rate and be directed to that moorage ID yourself when calling in and actually registering in the Harbormaster's office.

I just checked on Mylar balloons. They apparently will stay inflated for up to two weeks so it should not be a problem to get them ahead of time. I plan to get mine at a Hallmark store here so probably Hallmarks stores in other locations would have them. Haagen grocery stores also have some.
