05/09 - 05/12 2024 Friday Harbor CBGT

Steve and Lorenza, sorry to hear that you are not able to attend this year. Enjoy your nephew's graduation as that is a once in a lifetime event. It was fun having you both at the gathering last year. Hope it works out for you to attend next year.

Wow, the possibility of our very own Will and Mike joining us at FH. Hope to see you there to share on a fun time. Gary

Robbi, say it isn't so! I was so looking forward to seeing you--and your new boat.
But I understand. I'll just have to make a point of motoring down to South Sound for a meetup there. Maybe Blake Island, or Jarrell Cove.

And Pat and Patti, I'm sorry we won't see you again this year--at Friday Harbor, anyway. Maybe later in the summer we can stir up a mini-rendezvous. (I've never boated to Blaine).

Gary here. We are just two weeks away (14 days) from our annual gathering! We have had a few members sadly report that they will not be able to attend this year's gathering but hope to make it next year. As of now, we have 36 vessels that plan to be there. Two of these are larger vessels (non C-Dory boats) that will have a slip on G-Dock.

As a reminder, you can be assigned a specific slip now and make payment so that you don't need to report to the port office upon arrival. Sign-up with the Port of Friday Harbor today. www.portfridayharbor.org How nice to be able to take your assign slip upon arrival and start enjoying the gathering! Slips are filling up with this method and so go to the bottom of this post and click on "pm" to get your code for a reservation. Your message can be as simple as, "please give me the code" and I will send it to you. This extra step is necessary because we have limited slips available on H-Dock. You can still wait and call in to the Port upon arrival as this slip assignment method will still work.

Looking forward to the event and to seeing you all again soon.

There are some who have not been able to make a slip reservation on-line even when using the correct group code. If one enters an arrival and departure date other than May 9 to May 12, the system will send back a message of "No space is available for the dates and dimensions you requested but Friday Harbor Marina may be able to still accommodate you." Some folks wish to arrive at FH a day or two before the events starts and that is OK. When you come in, take your reserved slip before May 9 but go to the office and pay for the days prior to the event start. That way you can have your slip early. Hope this helps. Gary

Hi all, I’m coming over from Idaho for the get together and wondering where to launch, preferably by hoist to keep the trailer out of salt water, and then a place to park my truck and trailer from 5/8 to 5/16. I have a 22’ Cruiser.

Colleen and I are thinking of using the sling launch out of Cap Sante next Tuesday. www.portofanacortes.com/marina/trailer-boat-launch/

I have never used a sling launch on DayBreak. I always feared that small stress cracks could developing in the inside of the hull or cabin with the pressure of the straps against the side of the boat. Is this a valid concern? Should I ensure that the operator blocks the side of the hull between the straps and the side of the boat?

Also, I do not have cut outs in the bunks of the trailer. The operator will need to jack up the boat for strap placement. Should I make the trailer sling launch ready first? Thanks for your thoughts and comments.

I don’t think that would be a concern when you think of all the boats that are lifted in slings. Much bigger boats than ours. Also, regarding the cutouts, they will jack up the rear of the boat ever so slightly to give them room to pull the strap between the hull and the bunks. That is how they had to do Midnight Flyer. Fortunately my new trailer under C-Traveler has the cutouts. I assume the hull has space under it towards the bow. Now days they charge a bit extra if they have to jack it up. They really do a good job Gary. They've been doing this with a lot of boats for a long time. FWIW, I’ve launched a number of times with Cap Sante’s sling launch, and recorded them with all my other photographing. I recently started using YouTube for a few videos, including the last two times I was in the Cap Sante sling last year. I’ll see if I can get that link to add here. If I can find my Midnight Flyer videos where they use the jack, I'll upload one of them to Youtube and add the link later. Here are the two links:

We have used the Cap Sante slings many times on both our 22' and 25' C
Dorys. No damage, very convenient and easy on the boat and trailer. They also have trailer parking for about $6 per day. When you back up try to have your trailer tires just touching or just inside of the yellow lines on the dock. If you are centered this way the boat will lift smoothly and also when you put it back on the trailer it will sit nicely centered on the trailer. Drain plug!

Well, it looks like Susan will be home in time for Friday harbor and ling. Sadly shrimp is not open yet. Where do I get the group code to get a slip?

We’er presently at Fossil Bay, Sucia. Arrived here yesterday after launching at Port Townsend & crossing the Strait of Juan De Fuca.. Perfect weather here today, then some rain predicted, before turning good for the Gathering.

Colby, thank you for a video of your past launch and retrieve at Cap Sante. A photo is worth a thousand words!

Chris and Randy on Raven, good information along with placement of the boat trailer for using Cap Sante. Thank you.

Wow, look at Jay and Jolee on Hunkydory, they are already in the San Juans's enjoying is islands. Glad to hear that the weather looks promising next week for the gathering.

Also, just as a reminder, if you want to reserve a specific slip for the event beforehand, send DayBreak a PM and we will give you the code so that you can make a payment for a slip. In doing so, you will be all set and will not have to make the extra walk to the Port office when you arrive. Use the Port website for making your reservation today. http://www.portfridayharbor.org/ Click on the green area of 'Make Your Reservation Now.'

Lois and I will be wandering the docks Friday evening and Saturday. We booked a room a short ways up the hill from the marina.

It will be kind of sad not having a boat and seeing the old one with a different old bald guy hanging out in it but we will survive with all the friends around, I'm sure. Besides, the C-Dory factory folks will probably have their sales brochures with them and I think Lois has some money if I can just talk her out of it.

See you there!

I was gonna get mad you called me old and bald, but you also called me different. That's a compliment of the highest order, so...you're forgiven.

So many new names/faces on the signup sheet. I dunno, fellow Poobah - we might have to hold a seminar on proper C-Brat behavior. Maybe we can find somewhere to trespass for old times' sake!

:P
