05/08 - 05/10 - Friday Harbor, WA

We have 39 boats signed up for Friday Harbor, three short of last year's record 42 but still four days to go. Some familiar names not on the signup list. Warning If you want one of Roger's fancy shmancy nametags you've got to sign up. But we'll still welcome you if you just appear...and if you can't make it on Friday, come on Saturday we will make space for you. Weather doesn't look like it will be the same as last year...forecast is 60's, party cloudy. No fishing reports yet but Shrimp and LingCod will be open. For any lurkers or boatless Brats, you will be welcomed boat or not. Our first CBGT was at Poulsbo and we were boatless. Met some great people so by all means get on the Anacortes ferry and stop by. Either Friday for the afternoon gossip and dinner or Saturday for the afternoon gossip and potluck would be best.

For those who might not remember, brats usually monitor Ch68 when on the water up here. I know several "fleets" are leaving Friday AM and if you are traveling by yourself you can usually connect with another Brat on the water via 68. See everybody at Friday Harbor on Friday!

Just PM'd Barry. Per Matt, the boat should be good to go for the weekend and I'm stoked. 8) Now if the winds & rain would just GO AWAY!...

Barry,

I may stop by just to say hello and see what a C-Brats gathering really looks like.

My fingers are crossed for having good weather for all of you visitors to the island!

I have a table to donate. It is a cheap folding table. We will be heading to Canada after the gathering and will not be able to keep it on the boat. Is there anyone who would like to take possesion of this table at Friday Harbor.

Our plan is to be all hooked up and ready to roll tonight before we go to bed, and AIS "Ass in seat," Ray Barone around 8:00 a.m., arrive B'ham probably 10:45 a.m., get our space for the summer secured at Hilton Harbor, and probably be on the water around 11:30 a.m.

I will be bringing a keg of beer and the dispensing equipment, but will be counting on all of you folks to keep it iced down!

I had a call yesterday again from Captain David, he is still stuck in Brookings, OR, CG has had the bar closed, so will not be able to make it, sends his regrets!

Because of another commitment on Saturday, Lori and I have decided to just come over on the ferry for the evening. Look for us on the 2:40 sailing, arriving at 3:45. We will need to leave on the 8:00 ferry. See you on the docks and at Downriggers!

For those launching at Bellingham, I'm here moored at the visitor dock in front of Nickis Bella Marina Bar. Already had a couple of beers and ready for a nap. :-)

On the way up here Wednesday we launched at Everett to do some shrimping. Pulled 151 on the second pull. Got two limits for the day and gave our excess to Capital Sea. He was working his ass off to get some shrimp for his friends.

I gotta say that the the two marinas we've visited--Everett and Bellingham--makes Tacoma look like trailer park trash. Man, they are nice facilities, and very reasonable.

Anyway, for those coming to Bellingham, I'm monitoring VHF 68.

Tom,

We got the good pull at Possession Point in about 250' of water soaked 2 hours. Current really rips there, we almost couldn't find our float. The pot's weighted enough, but the current drug most of the float under.

I'll show you the bait and the recipe I used when I see you at Friday Harbor.

Ahem!! For the doubters out there please note that it is raining in Friday Harbor today and Monday but for Friday Saturday and Sunday, during the CBGT, the sun will be out!!

This is to confirm that Les and Helen on Starfish will be launching from Squalicum around 11 am and will be delighted to tag-along with you folks to FH. Kind of like an honor guard for the keg!

As for the C-Dawg "Shrimp blend" all I can say is this: It may catch shrimp, but if C-Dawg brings stew to the pot luck, just walk away.

Capital Sea is sad to report :cry that we will:

NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THE FRIDAY HARBOR GATHERING THIS YEAR

as result of business and work conflicts amplified by spending too much time shrimping of late.

HAVE A GREAT TIME EVERYONE!!! :beer :beer :hot :hot

We made the trip from Bellingham to Friday Harbor mid-day today, following Chuck and Kathy on Bootleg Hootch. It was our first salt water run for us so I was intimidated. It was nice to travel with some who had done it before.

The water is like glass this evening and it looks like a nice day for tomorrow.

Latest news about C-Brats & Squalicum Harbor. It's been an interesting day here in Bellingham. Ken & Harriet of Idaho were moored at Q Dock when Chuck aka Spike & Kathy (Bootleg Hooch) arrived earlier this morning. A bit of wind, lots of rain and some whitecaps but off they went towards Friday Harbor.

Charles Kollerer has been staying in the marina on his 25 Ranger Tug, Blue Bayou. He'll be leaving with us in the morning about 9:30.

Toni & Russ (Traveler) are in the parking lot. They'll be heading out tomorrow morning, too. We never did see C-Dawg.

DaveS, Les & Helen, Pat & Patty...will see you later at FH. It's going to be a great weekend!
Beautiful sunset this evening. About time!!!!!

Well we made it just after it got dark. Susan did not get off work until 6pm, home just after 7pm. We drove to twin bridges and launched real quick by 830pm. Smooth water and 25 mph got us in to Friday and tied up at 940pm. Would have made better time but just as I was crossing the last ferry wake from behind the cops pulled us over and wanted to know the usual questions. Were you going were you coming from who you meeting how do you now each other( picked her up at the dock, just standing around) how long you been married ( seems like forever). We had to go pass the ferry all over again. Got to the dock and saw c-dory after c-dory but no people. Well they were all down at the only empty spot waiting for us. Well off to bed now.
