05/05 - 05/06 - Lopez Is. Opening Week-end

Our goal is to launch from Cornet Bay on Friday a.m. We've been through Deception Pass several times and depending on the weather we may go up through Cattle Pass if it's calm or we could go up and around the top of Lopez, which is more protected. We've done both. We'd be happy to travel with you if you would like.

Don and Dee

Sounds good to me Colobear. Thanks for the information regarding launch and parking.

I haven't spent much time in this area but after a quick look at the chart it appears if the winds are light, running around the south end of Lopez through San Juan Channel could be the way to go. If the winds are moderate (westerlies), going around the north end of the Island through Lopez Pass might result in longer but more comfortable ride. If it's really snotty, Dusty's earlier suggestion to run up through the Swinomish Channel could be the best bet and sounds like fun. I'm not sure I'd draw the line at 30 knot westerlies as he mentioned as we are lightweights and I'd prefer our dog didn't get sick and throw up on the rug.

As it stands right now, AIS Snoqualmie is 7:00 AM which should put us in Cornet Bay about 9:15.

Tim

The bumper sticker I alluded to was ".....happens."

My guess - the parking at the State Park at Deception is as secure as most. They patrol frequently... but like the bumper stickers says --

Doesn't mean a thing, but I've been parking there for years without a problem. The trash truck driver does look my rig over carefully though

Save us a spot, we won't be arriving until pretty late on Friday evening, or possibly even Saturday a.m., depending. I have <ahem> the state association of municipal attorneys meeting in Stevenson, WA, wherever the heck that is, starting Wednesday - I was going to skip Friday a.m. but then got asked to moderate a panel Friday morning, not sure what time I will be leaving Stevenson but not later than noon anyway you slice, dice or roast it. Back in Fall City around 3:00 - 4:00 p.m, and even if boat is all ready to roll (it WILL be, won't it Patty?), a minimum of 2 hours to the launch ramp. Launch from Squalicum at 6:00 p.m., in Fisherman's Bay some time after 8:00 p.m. - if it looks like it would be later and possibly after dark, we will delay departure until Saturday a.m.

Since some are putting on their schedule here for launching, her goes.
We plan to leave Puyallup no later than 10 am Friday, head up to Cornet Bay and launch ,with one stop to top off Laurna Jo's fuel. Depending on if we stop and chat with Les, we hope to be on the water by 12:30 or so.

Looks like True Story and C-Cakes will beat us out but who knows we might hook up with someone to run over with.
If we don't see anyone .we will hail C-Brats on 68.

I forgot to mention Knotty -C leaving about the same time as the others maybe!! Sorry Don & Dee!

Pat!! Have no fear Brother, we will squeeze ya in!!!

Jim

True Story and C-Cakes, 10 a.m. sounds good if all goes as planned. We are actually planning on heading up that way Thursday night and will sleep on the boat somewhere so we are ready to head out in the a.m.

In the past we have not left our rig at the state park. We have left it at the Marina next door as we were renting a slip. We may leave it at the state park and have my cousin who lives on the Island cruise through and check on our rig.

Pat,

Stevenson is our stomping grounds in the great Columbia River Gorge. We don't actually live there, but that's where we do our search and rescue. Will you be at Skamania Lodge or the Bonneville Resort? Either one is really nice. While you are there, make a trip to the Walking Man Brew Pub. It's a nice place and you can compare their beer with yours. Try their Imperial IPA, a.k.a. Homo Erectus. (All their brew names have some sort of walking theme.)

Dee

I also plan to launch at the State Park and leave my truck and trailer there. Since we are coming from Spokane, we plan to get there Thur afternoon and spend the night at the park dock. Leave for Lopez Fri morning. Hope to tag along with another boat or two. I am really praying for nice weather since I have talked the Admiral into her first cruise on the boat! Hopefully with nice weather and enough wine it won't be her last.

Thanks Dusty for clearing up that bumper sticker thing for me. Guess I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have been. :P You are absolutely correct.

After Pam got her jeep stolen last year, I'm not sure there is such a thing as a safe place to park. Consequently, I'm done worrying about it. Let em have it if they want it. You do know who that truck driver is don't you?

CAVU, If you can swing it, you may want to get to Bellevue before 3:00 PM unless you like crawling to Smokey Point. Construction projects have really buggered up this stretch of road.

Tim,
We are early risers and plan to get a early start and come across US 2. I haven't been on that stretch in many years and thought we would give it a try. Thanks for the tip anyway. I figure the slower going on the two lane will cost me some time but I may get better mileage. If I keep the speed at 55 or so I get much better mileage.

Sounds like we are gonna have a lot full of C-Dory's at Cornet,
Maybe Les can have the local barista have some brew going for all the C-Brat's stopping by... either that or hang the "closed sign" and take cover in the back til the "assault" is over ..heheheh....or maybe the Dusty might be taking coffee orders. Heck Dusty just use your rank and have the base send some over.
(This e-mail was written under the influence of a couple prescription meds, however it is amazing that I still was able to string words together )

Well, your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to take lots of pictures and tell plenty of stories for those of us confined to the web.

If I were having a CBGT at my house, I think somehow, some way I wouldn't be able to make it.

I think I need about 2 more jobs...

I am hoping you all get some great weather and that the shrimp pots are heavy...

Susan will have friday off as thrusday is her last day of work. She starts her new job on the 15th,we will be taking monday and tuesday off as well to make this in to a 4 day cruise. I will get off friday around whenever I am done and god does not even know when that is, I asked. then we will run up to twin bridges or deception, depending on the wind and weather. we hope to be in lopez by dark but hey, keep a light on for us o.k.?

Ponchita is going to try and make it, be nice if work would confirm my vacation. I called the islander and they say their totally booked. So we'll see, maybe I'll have to anchor out.

Hey there Ponchita,
Unless we area wall to wall C-Brats tied up, we always seem to squeeze in a 16 somewhere... We got enough dockmasters in the group,if anyone can do it we can!

Yes, Ponchita, we WILL make room.
There is abeam rafting, astern rafting and stacking, both vertical and horizontal. Don't ask about stacking, just made it up. We will fit you in and anyone else that shows up.

Just made up the hoses and fittings, that we need to have two pony kegs on tap on one co2 tank. I will have the kegs on board when I arrive Friday. I am bringing a case of 24 logo glasses for those of you than can be trusted not to break glass. (two are reserved for #40 that signs up and shows up) ICING OF THE KEGS IS ON EVERYONE.

Think that covers everything but the fun and comraderie.

We'll be departing from Kenmore AIS about 10:30AM. Will drive up and put in at Anacortes. We should be there around 12:30/1:00PM. I'll pick up a few extra bags of ice to help ice down the beer. I'll bring a few bottles of good wine too. Looking forward to learning how to shrimp the Lopez area and hope to also catch a ling or two.
