Just tossing out an idea our here....

For the past few years Lake Powell has proven to be a great C-Dory Gathering/Flotilla site in April or May.

Any discussion or interest for this year?

Casey---You are right about your PS. This is a place that should be on the top of everyones list especially if you haven't been there before. Our first time was last year and it was wonderful. Would love to hear around the campfire first hand of yours and others adventures since last year. Unfortunatlely it will have to wait. Our limited time is already scheduled for the northern waters this coming year.

We would love to go to Lake Powell this spring. May would be better for us and mabe better weather, But April will work too.
Our 16 ft C-Dory is a bit small to stay on. Do you usually tent camp or stay at a home base hotel? We have a Motor Home but I am not familiar with parks in that area.

I just talked to the dog, and she said she would love to go, but I think she and I will be in Florida (hopefully)...I think we will start last week in March...take a week to drive to the Keys and spend April just hanging around....drive home to the cabin first week in May.
Rox really liked Lake Powell... bet she loves Florida ... such a party animal.

We are about to head to Florida for a month or so, then back to Arizona before returning to the Keys for the summer (yea, I know that's pretty inefficient, but it's a long story...).

We expect to be back in AZ for March and at least part of April, so we were considering a possible trip to Lake Powell sometime in April.

It will be interesting to see how things work out.

Robbi: Glad you have Powell on your schedule for some time this year! Great place, and we'll hope to cross paths.

John & April: Because of its long, linear layout, cruising Lake Powell is generally a multiday event. Beach camping is very common (there are countless areas for beach camping) but last year all the C-Dory folk "camped' on their boats with nightly campfires ashore. There are established campgrounds and hotels at both Wahweap and Bullfrog, but none in between.

April sounds good to me. I am taking to heart the "Do It Now" philosophy that has entered into posts on this site of late. Robbi

I checked the monthly highs and lows at Lake Powell.
average high average low
April 72 46
May 82 53
That 46 nights is a little cool (but dooable), later in the year it seems to get
really hot. I'm free to be there except the first week of either month.
OH ya Casey your schedule looks to be hard but we can work something
out.

Has there been a date set for Lake Powell? We are not able to go the last weekend of April but I hope to go for 2 weeks this spring.

I lived in Utah for 45+ years and would enjoy an excuse to pass through again to see my friends and family. I can't guarantee that I could join you at Powell, but I would like to. I'm going to monitor this thread and see what develops.

When I lived in Utah, the general sentiment was that May was the best month for Lake Powell.

Warren

We would like to consider this trip as well. How many days would folks be planning on spending there? I will keep watching and see which date you select. We are open.

Who is going to put together the dates for Lake Powell 2007. I'm into meeting up with you anytime April to the last half of May. Headed for Alaska second week in June.

I am thinking that the first weekend in May might be a good time to go to Lake Powell. Maybe get there Saturday the 5th launch on the 6th. I would want to stay most of 2 weeks to be back at work on the 21st so haul out on Friday 18th.

Would this work for others? Steve?

No other real trip planning needed here since you just launch and decide what canyon to visit.

Steve

That will work for me. Better would be the last of April. To the second week of May. But, all is good. See what others say. I'm flexable. Lets do it!

Sounds good to me...I would probably launch on Friday the 4th and recover on the following Friday...the 11th...can only stay a week this time.
For those folks on the 16's...lots of beach area's for camping...as Casey said. Easy to sleep on boat or set up a tent...but the weather can be variable. Last year it was beautiful...but the year before we were pinned down for a day by a storm with wind and rain. Not really a problem...lot's of secure hiding places on the lake. Not much in the way of supplies available...so you should provision for the duration. A few supplies are available at Hall's and Bullfrog...but they are 100 miles uplake and things can be sparse until they gear up for the season...and we will be early.

Cinco de Mayo sounds like a good date for us. We likely will not stay two weeks, but probably one. I'll keep watching.

Not going to make it to Lake Powell this year -- a break from our traditional spring and fall cruises on the lake -- we're overseas during the cruise time. Chris (Rana Verde) knows the geology well, and will stand-in for our usual patter. Early May should be a good time -- before the crowds. We'll be thinking of you folks --

We look forward to a fall cruise on the Lake -- probably September (or October, if that time seems better to most), and would enjoy sharing the time with anyone interested in that time.

I realized today that my dates overlap the Delta Brat trip. I may have to adjust an travel Sunday and Monday the last weekend of April. Then I could be back for the Delta trip - but that may be pushing it.

Looks like a few can do May 5th to 12th week. Any others want to do the week before or after?

Steve
