Jarrell Cove CBGT 2008

I am working on setting up a South Puget Sound CBGT - to Jarrell Cove or Indian Cove - I have the first two weekends free in March, April and first one free in May [that might be too close to the other CBGT's in May.] I reviewed the last two CBGT here at Jarrell cove on this site - looks like folks had fun.

Is there a preference on dates?.

We can't reserve dock space at Jarrell Cove - we could reserve a small roof only picnic shelter for $25/night near the dock. I checked with the Ranger there yesterday. Drive in's could also camp there. Showers and restrooms are clean. Ranger thought there would not be much competition for space. There were two large cruisers there at one of the CBGT's in March ? 2004. WA State Annual Moorage Pass would be OK for docking or mooring. There are lots of mooring buoys. The photos on this site show the dock space under CBGt.

There is a private Marina Indian Cove just 1/2 mile north that is very protected and we would have docking space through the first weekend in May and have shore power -at most slips. Clean restrooms no showers - the Marina picinic shelter has been torn down and will be replaced by mid summer - I could reserve the club house with gas fireplace, kitchen tables, chairs for the Potluck but it is 1/4 mile from the Indian Cove Marina -- I can ferry folks in the back of the Tundra Pickup. The slips here are $10/night - not sure if there is shore power fee in addition to the $10/night -

I think that I should set it up for Jarrell Cove - then consider using Indian cove either in the fall or next year when the new Indian Cove Marina Shelter is completed.

Ideas are appreciated - please make suggestions.

Thanks

SOUNDS GREAT. COUNT US IN FOR ANY OF THE DATES YOU MENTION. IF YOU NEED HELP WITH ANYTHING SEND ME A PM. HAPPY TO HELP OUT AND THANKS FOR GETTING THIS BALL ROLLING. :D

Jim,

We've been wanting to get down to the South Sound for awhile. Earlier in April works better for us but let us know what dates work best for others and we'll try to make it.

Hi Jim, think we met you on Hwy. 16 last Summer. Jarrel Cove is a great idea. Daylight Savings time starts on March 9 this year. But any of the weekends you mentioned sound awesome. Count C-Daisy and crew in.

Jim,
We have friends who just love Jerrel Cove. We have never been there but would like to try it and some of the south sound. They might even come with, but would need to paint their boat invisible, but they are great folks. I like the early April dates better, but you folks know the place and all so you pick. We are leaning to shore power but can do without.
Looking forward to it.

Jim - I am glad someone is willing to put together a South Sound get together. I will do my best to make it and if I can be any help to you in putting this one together, let me know. It would be best if it was two week ends away from the Cathlamet get together on the 12th & 13th of April or the Friday Harbor get together on the 16th – 18th of May.

As new 22 owners living near Johnson Point on Henderson Inlet we look forward to this gathering on any of the dates you proposed. We are outfitting and gearing up for spring and summer and should have things just so by March. Being nearby though, we may head home overnight just cuz we can.

I am away from the Clubhouse calendar this evening and want to recheck it tomorrow to be sure no new schedule conflicts since I first posted this. Then I can put up a date

Thanks for your patience

Any way you slice it, it looks like you have a pretty favorable response! We are really looking forward to another awesome South Sound CBGT!

Any recommendations for a put in location where the vehicle would be safe for a couple of days? I'm not sure I want to come all the way from Whidbey by boat but am very interested in exploring the South Sound.

Swantown Marina in Olympia.

Link to Swantown web site.

I did a map for some people coming up from the south , but gives good information about Swantown here.

Another ramp which is private is Zittles near Johnson Point. I think its a ten spot for launch and parking. A good and protected single ramp but not so good when we get a minus tide. Also, you avoid the long run out at no wake from Swantown.

Just a heads up, The girls and I spent the weekend at Jarrell Cove St. Park. Only one other boat at the dock all weekend. Were surprised to have hot showers at the park facilities. Looking forward for more info on the CBGT.

Thanks for your patience on this. Hopefully May 2-3-4 will work for most of the folks that were interested. There is a 2 week gap before the next CBGT.

I have been working on building a back up plan for Jarrell Cove for very rainy weather - since the picnic shelter there is small and dock space is not reservable -first come first serve.

I will reserve the picnic shelter near the dock for Saturday night at Jarrell's cove for the potluck - Park Mooring permit should be ok at Jarrell cove.

I will reserve the Clubhouse / and a few slips at Indian Cove the private Marina just 1/2 mile north as a backup. Slips will be charged only if we use them.

Since this is the first time I will have organized a CBGT - additional suggestions are welcome as planning unfolds.

Will start a new thread for actual planning for May 2-3-4

Thanks

Thanks Jim. This weekend looks good for those of you who would like to do some clamming or oystering. I have always wanted to check out DNR Beach 24 which is about 6 miles from Jarrell Cove.

Also, if you are coming down through the Tacoma Narrows, the lingcod season should open on the 1st of May. Slack water is about 10/11am on Fri/Sat. That is about 25 miles from Jarrell Cove.

All of this depends on the new Regs of course. But, cutthroat fishing will be open
