04/10 - 04/11 - Cathlamet Cruise

OK, as the date draws closer, our plans are firming up. David and I will leave Snoqualmie Valley (Fall City) as early on Friday, April 9, as possible and head on down to Cathlamet, to the marina and get launched. I assume we also register there for a slip for two nights, or is there a cruise and a night on the hook involved in this gig?

It's getting close and I'm getting excited. Can't wait to get the boat back in the water. It's been a long winter of projects and now we're ready to sail. Boats down at the shop for it's annual once over by the honda boys and we'll pick it up on Saturday with Sunday being spent loading up the gear and getting the new improved fish catching secret equipment properly hidden.

Pat,

No anchor drills on this trip as far as over nighting. Evenings are spent at the dock and hanging on the hook is optional if you're inclined to try catching a world famous "Columbia River Springer". Look forward to one of the cold brews and will even consider swapping an Oregon Cascade Gin martini for one of them fine beers. Are plan of departure is about the same as yours so we'll see you at the dock.

Tim

The crew of the TyBoo is very sorry, but it is unlikely we will make this weekend. I was so looking forward to seeing all our friends, old and new, but sometimes life dictates the pace at which it is lived.

If all the miracles our family has on credit with the world should fall into place for just a moment, then there is a chance we will be able to cruise up Saturday and stay one night. I hope so. It would do a lot of good for us to be with such great people.

reason # 10 is my fav. I'll try that one. Had to miss Jerrall's Cove because of work :( , so I'm due.
Have a great time. :beer :wink

Mike, the C-Brats and Cathlamete will be there for a while...take care

I'll grab a box of mad cow bugers and buns for the turf portion of Saturday's dinner (actually these are horse meat so there is no mad cow concern).

A word of warning, I'm going to try to poke my nose in every boat and take a couple of pictures of your best two improvements. Folks that can't attend these gatherings are missing out on one of great things about them, new boat project ideas.

Man, I'm glad I'm not out on the left coast where you eat "mad cow bugers" and poke your nose into places. Sounds icky.

Hope you guys have a great time, eat something else.

TyBoo Mike,
So sorry to here things are not harmonious right now. I'm sending positive waves to you and your's :angel. Hope you can make it for a little while anyway.

Rock-C Terry,
Hope #10 works. Missing a cruise for work is unfortunately understandable . Missing this one so close is a reel bummer :amgry.
Hope you can break away for a bit.

Jon

B-C,
Don't come a knocking till the window covers are down and bring your own coffee if it's early. I hear we like pics but there are limits in good taste.

Wheeler Jon,
Where are you leaving from next week, the cost or the valley? We'll be coming up from Garibaldi tomorrow afternoon on our way home from Greg's Marine after the annual service on the Hondas. Are you anywhere along the route?
Tim

It's getting closer :) is the fishing heating up Larry? Got your bilge puming Ray? Is the Shearwater back together? Jim, got those extra keys? inquiring minds want to know.
:) :)

Tim,
We are in the valley this weekend, but will be coming from Wheeler next weekend. We plan on heading to Wheeler next Friday after work and then leaving for the cruise probably about 4:00 or 4:30 am on Sat. morning. Should put us in Catchlimit about 6:00.

Looking forward to meeting you folks since your just on the other side of Neahkanie from us.

How is Greggs with the warranty and service work?

Jon

Just got home from picking up the boat after it's annual spring service job. Everything is a go again so I'll be loading up tomorrow for an earl Friday AM departure to Cathlamet.
Our plan for the Saturday pot luck & BBQ is a big pot of Carribien Rice with Shrimp( i.e. prawns). I only use the word shrimp because them folks don't really understand that we have these little sweet pink devils out here that are the real shrimps. Oh, by the way the commercial shrimp season opened up the 1st of April so the new crop should show up about Monday or Tuesday. If you see some on the market then I'd say take part and enjoy the first of the seasons best.

Shearwater is almost back together !!!!!
Installed the new kicker bracket mounted and plumbed the kicker. Changed lower end lube in both motors changed the kicker oil (first time I ever changed oil in an outboard). Got the main all rigged back up, installed new fuel filters. Cleaned and cleaned some more (fiberglass dust in everything) Installed electronics ran cables, moved GPS ant. (made new mount and installed in the cabin).
Think I am down to washing the exterior, test running the motors, loading everything up and buying food. (Need to plan the route also)

Going to launch at Scappose Bay and motor down Thursday afternoon. Not sure if I can make to cathlamastan by dark if not will be there first thing Friday morning.

Mike hope you can make it for one day be good to see you and talk "classic 25's".

I got a bucket. Can't find a smelly switch anywhere.
Got the new cable on the kicker and even washed most of the Halibut slime off da boat.

I plan to show up Thursday night or Friday morning. Hopefully I will be able to scout around a bit and find the bite if there is one.

I might be able to bring some Halibut for the pot luck.

That or I might be able to be talked into making my famous Hot Wings :thup That or maybe I'll thaw out some Tuna loins :smilep

I really need to run some of this old gas out of my boat. I have made 4 trips and haven't even used 1/8 of my capacity yet.

Larry, any tips on where to try for Springers in that neck of the woods? I kind of like the Bald Eagle hole but he may have issues with my fishing it....

4 days and counting folks, If my trailer holds out I will see you there!

Ray

I went out today by myself in Clifton Channel. Caught 3 but had to throw 2 of em back. The keeper was 19 lbs.
I'll be fishing every day this week, so give me a holler when you hit town. I'll show & tell all that I know. (that won't take long)
To all that are coming, my cell number is 360--431--4271. Write it down in case you run into any problems, get lost or whatever.

Phone call from Jack, age 4 1/2:

"But grampa, you've got to come over Easter Sunday & see me ride my bike. I don't have training wheels anymore."
-------------------------------------------------------------
Doesn't look good for this weekend, unless I can drive up on Saturday. Well see.

Our plan is to leave Cannon Beach and tow all the way to Cathlamet. Since we don't have a yearly slip yet we have no reason to have the boat anywhere but home so this works best for us. Besides I get a lot farther on a gallon in the tow rig than I do in the boat. We'll be coming up the Oregon side on US 30 then take the ferry across at Westport. Ferry is cheap and always fun the give the boat a ride on a boat. Maybe it'll learn something about the river or even better we'll spot Larry with a fish on. That's our plan and we're sticking to it.

See you on the river or at the dock.

Tim

Larry,
What's the proper bait or gear to have aboard to fish this hotspot? Don't want to get to your fishin hole and find out I got the wrong worms. Can't be smelt cause the bait boy didn't get many this year. If I need bait I'll pick it in Astoria on the way if size is a issue.

Tim

David and I will be pulling in Friday some time after noon, with our old fishing poles donated by our ham friends and newly purchased Shimano TR200G reels...and no "terminal tackle" (we can only guess that means what goes on the end of the line on the reel, correct?) The guy who sold us the reel said to ask you all what kind of terminal tackle we should be using, and either buy it there or borrow it from you all! So we will be counting on your good advice!

Larry sounds like your having great week hope to join up with you and Ray Friday.
Can not believe that I have everything done but hooking up the boat and loading coolers. Hope to get out of work around noon tomorrow and be on the water heading West by 1:30 things are looking good.

I am getting pretty excited!

Still can't find a replacement for the factory bilge pump switch. The factory is using a new panel now and I have not been able to find a replacement. I have spare pumps though.
I am also looking for speedy sleeves for the trailer axels as these parts have been discontinued by the manufacture  .
In any case I have new bearings on both sides. I need to check the ones Lyle and I replaced last summer then I will just head on out. I have 3 more sets in the truck with enough grease and tools to take care of the fleet.

My wife recommended that I make some Albacore tuna salad for the pot luck. I think I will bring a loin or two for the BBQ too :smilep .

Larry, can you let us in on the technique you are using so I can plan accordingly? I am about out of the bait I caught last year. I will be stocking up again soon so long as the Herring are willing.

Stevej, I am delighted that you are ready to get that hull wet again. I can bring a DVD to watch if you are willing to play it. My wife bought me American Wedding and it just gets funnier every time I watch it.

I plan to leave Thursday night so long as I can get my bearings checked. It shouldn't be a problem so look for me to arrive no later than Friday night with a very high likelihood that I will be splashing the boat Thursday night. Breakfast burritos, Tuna sandwiches and hopefully Springer on the Barby for the daily menus with a few ice cold cervesas and great company.... Does it get any better than this?

I may leave Saturday to Crab Tillimook bay with the hopes that I can get outside Saturday or Sunday but it all depends on how things play out. I am just happy to finally be able to go spend time on my boat and to have the chance to meet more of our C-Brat family :thup
