04/10 - 04/11 - Cathlamet Cruise

Larry,

Thanks for the RSK tip. I have to go to Gippo-Joes to check on some concert tickets anyway, so I'll check to see if they have some.

I usually don't have a problem getting a good roll on my cut-plugs but if it will help me stay up with the lovely Terrie when it comes to F-I-B (Fish-In-Boat), It's worth a try. I'm only nine lbs. behind her in the lifetime salmon derby and am hoping this is the year I actually take the lead. (for the first time ever!)

It took a while to figure out the new site, I had to join again and all, but hey... I like it! We'll make it to Cathlamet if there's still dock space. Tom was supposed to work but has managed to wiggle out of it. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Welcome home, Renem and Tom! It's about time. If you post a message and look to the left at your user info, you'll see the link to your photo album all lit up electric like. Cool, huh? We moved all the pics from the old site over here, and have been waiting for everybody to show up so we could hot up the albums.

It's great to hear you're gonna make it to Cathlamet! We'll find room for you, no problem!

I had great luck with RSK's last year in the ocean. Learned a couple of things in the process.
1) They have different sizes - big fin model is for bigger herring
2) If your targeting catch and release coho use a single hook rig (easier release)
3) If you can find them buy a package of extra fins, They will fall out or get broke while netting (Englund's them and I have seen at joes) You could play with a touch of super glue to hold in place better
4) Getting the herring in the RSK right is a two person job. Englunds has a cool gizmo opens the RSK jaws while you insert the herring.

Bought a couple of RSKs today at Joes. $3.15 each, I mean ouch! Got the BIG FIN models for the purple pack herring. Will give em' a try although now it seems it will take two of us to put the bait in . Or, let me digest this, I can buy a gizmo so I can use the gizmo that will make my herring spin just right :beer :cocktail :beer Oh I get it  My bait price just doubled . Is this one of those pyramid schemes?

Hi, my name is B~C Ken and I have approved this message; WD Jon, you're either going to catch some big fish...or...big gizmos.
Hello to the Primative crew, glad you folks found your way back to the pub, and just in time for the Crotchety Lamet cruise

Gizmos' I got, big fish I crave. Catchlimit Cruise in 24 days.

Is it possible the White House appropriated the smelt to trade for more TV spots?

I have been hooked on RSKs for quite a while now!
I like the red ones and the green ones.
I learned a new way to rig them for Halibut, YES, Halibut.
Last year I had a banner day and caught 6 Chinook over 20#, a 60# Halibut, 2 Ling Cod over 10# and a few other fish all mooching with an RSK.

See me at the dock for more tips and tricks with these great lil' gizmos...

I can't wire a boat or make a forward facing seat conversion but I can still fish  .

Can't wait to put a bend in my rod. Gotta get it done soon.

Has a ring to it!
Forgot to mention I'm up for the Saturday potluck. Don't have the menu planned yet but it'll be good. Thanks for moving pics, Mike. I'll send more now that I've a digital. Very cool site. And NO extra letters after I post!

Maybe B~C could have his students write GWB and ask for a small ration of smelt for Catchlimt. They could send pics of Ken sitting on the bank of the river with tears in his eyes :cry.

We were up there to that CL place over the weekend. I tried to talk to the asst. harbor guy about arrangements, but he said it had all been set up. Including use of the covered picnic area and someone fom the marina staff standing by to fire up the gas grill. That HO Larry is good, I tell you!

Also, even though the WA marinas do not allow reservations, these guys are doing their part to make sure we all get in. Across the dock from us were some real nice folks on a 38' Bayliner who had been staying in that slip for a couple weeks, The guy said that the harbor master told him he could stay there until April 9, and then he had to make room for the C-Brats. He saw the flag on the TyBoo and knew we were one of them.

Larry brought Helen O in and tied her up to the dock Saturday night (Helen O the boat, not Mrs. Helen O). That was kinda cool having two green CD 25's in a row. It will really be cool when we have 15 or so CD's gathered around. Sunday morning watching the parade to the launch ramp made it pretty obvious why Larry would pay the six buck to leave his boat in the water. Lots of trailers, but not near as many as there will be when we are there. If you're trailering into Cathlamet Fridy or Saturday, you might want to try hitting it around mid morning or early afternoon while all the trailer fishers are out fishing.

The river was clear of debris this weekend, but last year around this time there was lots of stuff floating. This time of year, they are likely to be spilling extra water over the upriver dams, and couple that with any big tide swings and there is the potential for a mess in the water. The main Columbia channel is usually pretty clear, but getting into Cathlamet marina sometimes reguires lots of zig-zags. It will not be a problem, though.

YA, make room for the C-Brats, we're going to storm that town just like the Hell's Angles in boats, that town aint getting NO sleep (cuz we'll keep them up with our loud snoring)...

Sheesh, between Mike, Larry and SteveJ, there's 75' of dock space gone...we where going to bring the kayaks but there may not be enough room to dock them

Twasn't me, I think BC~Ken arranged it.

What's for dinner??

Since somebody arranged for the covered BBQ area and the gas grill Saturday night, we have to cook something. I have heard stories of having fish (salmon and steelhead) for sure, even if we don't catch any fresh that day. We were thinking of having some small steaks to go with it. What do you think? If Kay is successful at locating 30 good BBQing slabs of beef, do you think we can eat it all up in one evening? She's up to Costco checking right now, and she has already got a few local stores competing with each other. Sounds like she is all for the plan, so success is almost certain.

Surf and Turf. What do you think?

Hey, don't go blaming me for the reservations, maybe WheelerDealer Oregonized it all :) surf and turf sounds most excellent...with the B~C and the Tyboo boat plying the same fishing grounds it will probably be turf & turf though.

Sure, blame it on the new guy . And what's with the negative waves on the fish .

We are up for steak Mike. Tell Mrs. TyBoo thanks in advance for the beef bargaining. Should we just bring side dishes and deserts then? Also, Beer? Jack? Ouzo?

So If I get there at 7am on Saturday I'm gonna be waitin' hours to get the prop wet? :D :) :? :(
