04/06 - 04/08 - Fisherman's Terminal

Hi guys: I am a new c-brat.I am trying to make a decission between buying a C-Dory cruiser 22 vs The Ranger Tug 21 EC. I like the C-Dory because of the cabin space and the speed, but I have had bad experience with outboard engines.I like the Ranger tug because of the diesel engine and economy. What do you think? Joseph.

Hello Joseph. Welcome to the C-Brats site!

As to your post about comparing the C-Dory 22' vs the Ranger Tug 21 you would get far more feedback if you created a new topic instead of asking that question here buried in the Fisherman's Terminal thread.

Anyway, our neighbors have a Ranger Tug 21 while we have a Venture 23' so the comparison is fairly similar. As you noted the C-Dory 22 (or 23) have a much roomier cabin while the Ranger 21 has a very small enclosed cabin area w/ a much larger cockpit.

I envision the choice between these two boats as a usage issue. If you plan to do day trips only as a 'party' boat and not hope to go very far distance wise, the Ranger is perhaps optimal between these two.

If; however, you plan on overnighting and/or covering more ground geographically the C-Dory 22 would be far superior.

You addition comments on the diesel vs. the outboard also fits into this same usage parameter. Don't forget, the outboards can be run very economically at hull speeds too but also afford you the ability to get up and go faster if required.

Our neighbor's 21 Ranger is a great boat for the day but the C-Dory is far superior as a possible overnighter.

Good luck in your choice.

Take care,
Dan

I have had bad experience with outboard engines...

Without any details, I will say that, in general, modern, 4 stroke outboards are very reliable and much quieter than the older 2 strokes ever could be without the annoying "blue" smoke we all know and don't miss.

Back up to the top! We should be leaving to launch at Mercer Island when Patty gets home from scrubstitute teaching! We have arrangements to park outside of the boat launch parking lot. Raining here in Fall City, but last I heard, outlook for the weekend was OK, partly sunny. We have only had one Andrews Bay weekend since returning from the "vacation from Hell" in September, so it will be good to get back out on the water, if only for a short cruise up Lake Washington, through the Montlake Cut, across Lake Union and up the ship canal.

I really don't remember the entrance to Fisherman's Terminal, will somebody be monitoring Channel 68 as we approach? Should be there around 6 or so...

:?: Pat, you're not talking about attending the Fisheman's Terminal gathering this weekend are you?
.

Why do you need a new destination? Two really good restaurants at F.T. and Sunday Brunch at Ivar's Salmon House. Enjoy!

As it turns out, we have our granddaughter Harper for the real Fisherman's Terminal CBGT, so we will come to the Saturday potluck by car rather than by boat! You will all enjoy meeting this adorable little sweetheart!

Darn it.

I thought someone had hacked your retirement "app" and you were planning to warm the water up for the rest of us :-)

It's cabin fever time.

We have 18 m old granddaughter visiting right now. She has not quite mastered the word Grumpy yet but she knows the dogs names. Probably because she is called Bella just like Baxters' girlfriend. Anyone yells Bella and they both look guilty :-)

Wanted to bring this back to the top. We are still planning on dinner at Chinooks on Friday, breakfest Saturday at the cafe, cruise on Lake Washington and the potluck Saturday night.
Hoping we fill up the dock. This should be fun.

Is there a boat launch close to FT that you can leave your tow vehicle and trailer overnight (safely)? I know I can launch from Shilshole, which is not far from where we keep the boat. But then we'd have to go through the locks, which of course is doable but kind of a hassle. How about Magnuson Park? It would be a hassle for me to drive all the way on the otherside just to avoid the locks but it's under consideration. Would the tow vehicle be safe there? Finally, the small launch in Ballard, how is that?

Chime in Seattle people.

Coulon Park in Renton and SE 40th St. ramp in Bellevue both have overnight parking and excellent ramps. Not sure about the safety. Check their web sites for details. I look forward to seeing you at the gathering.
