04/01 - 04/03 Cathlamet, WA

We'll either be needing some electricity... OR...a big chunk of heating duct to run over to the Tyboo with it's bottomless stove fuel tank :) Me thinks I'll go soak some Quickfish by Prescot beach this weekend just to warm up for the derby

Just got back from Elochoman Harbor, met True Story Tim there. It was a beautiful day today, water temp. was 43 degrees.... but no fish in the box. He said he seen 1 caught. The gillnets were in, that didn't help.

:cat Save us a space for shore power. We plan to come over on Thursday. 31March. This will be the first trip in our new 25' - Sea Dragon Plus. We always enjoy Cathlamet and made many trips there with the 22' C-Dragon. What's the price of fuel there these days? Let's save some of this weather for about 5 weeks.

Larry - You should be out fishing this morning. All the Rec reports, internet forums, and other sorces are OK, I guess, but the real place for info is the barber shop. While getting my haircut this morning, I learned that the chinook are in thick around Clatskanie. How did you let them get past your place?? The guy was also speculating that it might get closed down before April. But then they say that every year.

Don't believe all you hear at the barbershop. I went out yesterday, and two days before that. It's been very slow, I've only seen one caught, there wasn't even very many people fishing during the week. The word I'm getting is that the gillnetters are only catching 3-5 per night.
The good news is that the water temp is up to 46 degrees. It's rising fast. Word is that maybe the large tide swings this weekend will bring some fish in. I'll hit it again on Monday.

 There will be bbq springer on Saturday evening. Caught a chubby 18 lb'er this morning. It's fillet'd, vacuum sealed and in the freezer.

you fish catchin rascal you. Are they catching many down there or did you wrangle a stray?
I have to reload my lead collection, what do you recomend?

it's just a few weeks away, we're not going to be able to go to J. Cove this weekend so I must remind myself to have an extra ration of fun at Cathalamet to compensate :)

Yo Ken

For Clifton channel use 2 1/2 to 3 oz. cannon ball lead. I like the 2 1/2 oz'ers cause it gets my herring farther away from the boat. The first part of this week I was trolling with a fish flasher and couldn't get a bite. Yesterday I took off the flash and just used a herring.... had one on and lost it. Today I hung onto it. I think the water is so clear that the flasher isn't needed right now. Some guys are catching a few using a real small one.

So the two of you are already ganging up on the poor fish. Be nice and leave a couple for us outatowners. Not that getting together with everyone again isn't enough.

Tim

P.S. Very nice bright fish Lyle, you da man in my book.

Nice fish lyle, been looking forward to doing some salmon fishing at Cathlamet again this year but I'm not going to be able to go

Have a change to go just south of cancun mexico for two weeks and will be taking off Monday. Looks like I will be fishing for tuna instead of salmon.
Hate to miss the event had a great time last year and wanted to check out Tyboo. Would have been good to have a Pat and Dave beer and do some fishing with everyone.

HEY, YOU GUYS QUIT CATCHIN ALL THE FISH, Larry & Lyle teaming up, there won't be any fish left for the rest of us :)
What say we move this get together to Cancun?

It is with a sad heart that I have to cancel on the "Springer Weekend". I had to move up surgery on my hand to fit an insurance issue and I would just be a whiner if I couldn't hold a rod. Then I would get crazy if I couldn't play a fish. Not pretty stuff. If anyone wants a K 14 and a K 15 in "mean green" and a bottle of smelly jelly-flavor anchovy, send me a PM with your address and they are yours. They have fish written all over them. (Please, at least take the smelly jelly. It has been driving my dog crazy!)

Thanks to both Larry and Mike for your offers of boat and gear. You are great.
