03/25 to 03/29 - 13th Annual Delta/Bay Extravaganza

Thanks to everybody for coming this year. It was one of the highest turnouts ever.

On top of that we had the best company, best food, and best weather of any other Delta and Bay Extravaganza. Pretty amazing after 13 years of this event!

Special thanks to Joel for putting together the Petaluma dinner venue and to David for hosting the Espetus steak dinner. Both dinners were quite remarkable and memorable.

Thank you to everyone else for your kindness and other generous contributions to the betterment of the entire C-Dory organization.

Hope to see you all at Catalina later in the year.

Safe voyages,

Jim & Kath

Diane and I made it home safely to Phoenix and sooner than we expected. Drove 200 miles after taking the boat out of the water and the remaining 600 miles today.

It was a great trip! It was a great bunch of people to go boating with. We appreciated all the hospitality. Lots of good memories.

Wow! Another amazing feat pulled off by Jim and Kath! How you managed to bribe the weather gods into having summerlike weather in early spring is truly a mystery to us. The Delta and Bay Extravaganza is simply one of the highlights of our year. The entire cruising group was a pleasure to hang out with and enjoy some great food and sights. It was good to see some new faces, Diane, Tony, Doug and John, Nate and Zack and who could forget Bernie! Thank you David for very nice dinner in SF, what a nice thing to do for your Dads B-day.

Joel as always you strike me as bit of an ice berg, there is always a lot more under the surface, great talking with you and Nathan and thank you for putting together the visit to Dr. Ben’s historic Petaluma house for dinner.

John and Robin again hosted our stay at Wheeler Island and we thoroughly enjoyed their hospitality. Great BBQ and Breakfast! It was a treat to spend some time with Bobby and Chris. We have made some great friends and look forward to seeing you during the year. Thanks to all for your kindness shown to all and lending a hand when needed.

BTW: Have awesome photos and will PM out as we can

My co-pilot John, myself, and my no-name 22 all arrived safely in Fort Bragg yesterday afternoon. This was a most amazing, fun, and memorable trip for me. With the good weather and favorable tidal currents, we really gobbled up those miles.

Jim and Kath- thanks so much for arranging this, two(!) great breakfasts, and for keeping track of the fleet while under way (like herding cats sometimes).
Great to meet you and have some acquaintances in common.

John and Robbin, and Bobby and Chris- the duck club dinner was excellent and fun. And the "Wheeler Island Yacht Club" visit to the Sausalito Cruising Club made me feel like a kid. I'm still laughing. (And by the way John, my co-pilot John is Sicilian with a developed taste for Italian food products, and he gave your olive oil ten stars.)

John and Laurie- Great to meet you and Tess and I will be in touch about your location on the north Bay. And reciprocal boat pictures and video to come I hope.

Joel and Nathan- I much enjoyed your shared sense of humor, and seeing you two together made me which my 24 year old son could have made the trip. (Not that John was a bad co-pilot. We have been friends for many years and this was a great shared experience.) And the Petaluma mansion visit and dinner were amazing.

Steve, Carmen and Alex- We did not get the chance to talk much but I hope to get to know you better on future trips.

Floyd- I look forward to whatever video product you create from this great trip, and you can p.m. me about the downriggers.

Bernie and Pedro- I really enjoyed our chats and your sharing of your boating knowledge and experience. I hope we can share future cruises.

David, Donald, and Zach- Having your three generations and seeing your strong relationships was an inspiration. Donald, again Happy 80th, and David thank you again for having us all to the birthday dinner.

Tony and Diane- glad you made it safely home to Phoenix. Our 3 mile walk though various San Francisco districts was fun.

I am mulling over all the name suggestions for the boat (Whiplash, Rim Shot, Waterbug...

I truly enjoyed the Delta Extravaganza, I could not find a better way to spend my week..I also thank Pedro of C-Casa for the soda, and Jim and Kathy of Pounder for all the hard work they put in to make this trip a reality, and I'd also like to thank David of Blue Eagle for the excellent dinner at Espetus, and for taking me along in the first place

Thanks a million!

And what better to share on Donald's 80th birthday..... what a fine gift to all of us... Thanks... I will remember THAT party for many years....

I have a couple of pictures to post, but no photo album. Do others have pictures to post also? If not, I can just post on this message forum.

Another Delta Extravaganza under my belt, an adventure Bernie and I will always remember and will be looking forward to doing again next year. Thank you Jim, Kathy, John, and Robbin for making this possible and the wonderful C-Brats we got to be reacquainted with as well as the new friends that we have made. This trip was especially special with the weather and the activities that we enjoyed thanks to Joel, on SEA3PO, and David, on Blue Eagle.
It has been taking me quite a while to go through all the footage and photography that I created during the trip and produce a video. I have decided to break it down day by day and keep it to 5 to 10 mins long, otherwise I tend to produce an opus. As I upload them to You Tube I will post on this thread with the links. Anyone that would care to share any images that they took during the trip that I might be able to use in the videos please email them to me, Bluechablis@gmail.com Also any photos or raw footage that I have that you want let me know.

I have completed Day 2 of the trip. The summaries and links to follow

A 5 day adventure tour starts in the Sacramento River Delta with a pack of C-Dory owners. For the next 155 nmi we travel to Wheeler Island, up the Petaluma River to Petaluma, over to Sausalito and then the South Bay Marina in San Francisco before we return to our starting point.

Day 1 Section shows our adventure team leaving Delta Marina in Rio Vista and arriving at our first destination Wheeler Island where our hosts, John and Robbin on Dinner Belle II, have a wonderful dinner planned. Since there is limited space on the dock our gaggle of C-Dorys must navigate a shallow entrance and tie up 3 abreast on the small dock. A great time is had by all!

https://youtu.be/lLHjriY27q0

Day 2 Section - We do some fishing in the incredible Wheeler Island morning light before we head out across San Pablo Bay, still as a lake, for the Petaluma River Entrance. Traveling up the river to Petaluma takes us through the largest natural salt marsh in San Pablo Bay covering 5000 acres. We have to make it to the drawbridge by 2pm for our scheduled opening. We make it in plenty of time and tie up on the public docks in the town center. Joel and Nathan on SEA3PO have a special evening planned for us at their friends Victorian house just a short walk away.

Day 3 Section - Petaluma to Sausalito - Our new friends in Petaluma come down to see the group depart for Sausalito. We have a hydraulic steering leak, thanks again to Doug and John for getting us some fluid. At the mouth of the Petaluma River we break through the overcast and into a beautiful day coming through the pass at Angel Island and into Sausalito with a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Wow Floyd.

I feel as if I have been on an epic biblical journey. I have relived every hour of every day of the past five day Bay and Delta Extravaganza trip.

Then I went back and looked at your documentary of the 2014 trip to see how they compare. Better weather and better food in 2015. I am exhausted from my viewings!

Thank you for your labor of love and videography enthusiasm. Please come to Catalina and complete the story!

Jim & Kath

Floyd.

I looked at your videos again! Quite addictive.

I like the Day 5 presentation best with the management summary of the entire trip. It is neat how you supper-imposed the map with the pictures. I cannot believe how beautiful the weather was in March!

Thanks again Floyd for your documentation. If anyone new wants to go on this Extravaganza in the future they will have a good preview with these videos.

Best,
Jim & Kath

Floyd and Eiko,

Someone posted a question regarding a 2016 Delta Cruise and I went back and looked this thread up to see what it was all about and found your links to the video, AND then I watched them for the whole set. Really nice work. Great photo documentation, and interesting effects. Hope there is another one this year and that the scheduling can work out.

I linked the thread for the 2015 cruise to the new thread so maybe you'll be getting some more hits on the UTube movies.
