03/07 - 03/09 - St. John's River, Florida Gathering

Sitting at DeLeon Springs now with Alma's Only. Good trip up here today. Was a little dicey, (skinny water) churning up mud entering Spring Garden Creek from Lake Woodruff, and then in a few spots along Spring Garden Creek. Can't remember if we had any problems on Spring Garden Lake or not. (Off plane, with the engines trimmed up as far as possible. Think I"ll use the kicker going out tomorrow!) Also hit some snags coming up Dead Norris River. Both Alma's Only and I found the same one, then we each hit one on our own. No damage as we were barely over idle speed. So if anyone else wants to come up here in the next day or two, it is doable, just be careful. Oh yeah, other than the fishing boats DIW fishing, seemed like no one else was following the No Wake restriction in the side creeks and rivers. Guess it doesn't apply to local fisherman... :? Lastly, there was at least one Manatee here in DeLeon Springs, but was towing a transmitter. Never seen that before... Saw several gators along the way, and the usual turtles and birds. (But not as many birds as last year.) Pancakes tomorrow morning at the Sugar Mill! Then I can say mission accomplished! LOL. Colby. P.s. Any one need to contact us about the waters coming up, give me a call. I'll be off internet shortly until back at Hontoon tomorrow afternoon.

Colby, Sounds like you had a great trip, Gators and a manatee, and pancakes. Hope you had a good, stiff, thick, nutty, whole wheat one for me. Hummmmm, think I need to go make breakfast.

So far good time Harvey. And the gathering hasn't even started yet! lol. 8 boats on the docks now, with 5 out in DeLeon Springs tonight I believe. And a few more out on the river side creeks anchored somewhere... Looks like it'll be another good turnout this year. Introduced my wife to the Sugar Mill Restaurant this morning, so mission accomplished there! lol. Tomorrow we'll do a short trip down to Blue Springs where the Manatees winter. I guess most are out in the rivers now, but hoping there might still be a few there to see. I very much enjoyed the gathering here last year, and was looking forward to this year. Colby

Hey Colby, Just in case you missed the pancake this morning I had a couple.

Have a great time. Best to you all.

The C-Otter and crew will be back at Hontoon this afternoon to continue with signing up for the gathering. We could not resist going to DeLeon springs for pancakes. Hit a couple snags and shallow water but we made it! Lots of bird sighting. James from the Molly Brown visited us at Hontoon yesterday before we left and said to say HI to all the other Brats! Nice. Life got in the way this year but he and Betty will be back on he boat next year.

Pancake time ,,,,,,,Tom

I guess it's safe to go swimming again at Silver Glen Springs ... they captured the THIRTEEN foot alligator!

Google: "thirteen foot alligator at Silver Glen Springs"

Best,

OK, things change... I'd been under the gun - self-aimed - to get projects done at the house and was way behind... So we cancelled our cabin rental at Hontoon. Then the wife said, "It's my birthday, and I'll boat if I want to..." So the projects are on hold and we rented a 25 from Marc Grove for the week. Sorry to miss out on the gathering but at least we're in a C-Dory that's upright and in the water. Given that it's a 25, we're learning lots about the layout and what'll work or not work for our boat. All the best to all there and see you next year - in OUR BOAT!!!

The boat we rented is the 2003 that's listed on Wefing's BoatTrader site. We're having a great time. Learning a lot. If you're thinking about getting serious about purchasing a C-Dory, this might be a good way to find out whether a C-Dory is the one for you. We're doing a five-day rental, we're inexperienced with boats in general and had quite a time in St. Joseph Bay with the wind and waves. But, we're upright, on top of the water, and cooking supper in St. Joe marina. Van Morrison gracing our evening on this great stereo system. Time to sautee some shrimp...

Bechin,.... Not likely that any boats will be at Hontoon this weekend. Most are going to be traveling on the St. John's or going home. Last weekend we about 15 boats now about 23 C-Dorys. Plan on coming next year on the weekend before.

Tom....missed you at Hontoon but glad you got out on a 25. I'm going to hold you to bringing your boat to Hontoon next year.

Colby ...I was told an album was set up.

Three new photos added to the album. Colby

Colby, Sure glad it's you down there enjoying the "environment" (which includes a lot of "stuff  flora, fauna and temperatures. Not sure if your critters come in under "fauna", but I'm hoping you had a VERY long lens

Looks like you are having a great time.

Actually pretty close to many of them. But either on the boat, or ready to run the other way. LOL. As last year, having a great time! Official gathering ended yesterday. Today I'll follow some others for the "after cruising". Expecting a good time on that also. We'll pull out on Monday then, head home so Rosanne can work, before heading out west. Looking forward to the Delta Cruise as well!
