02/16 - 02/20 - San Diego

Hey Pat...sounds good. Copied Don on the Jenny B too. His boat is on San Diego Bay. Loews is just south of where the San Diego gathering will be in February. Maybe we can do a mini pre gathering gathering. Anyone else up for it? Byrdman is very entertaining!

Glad to hook up again Chris. Got your email with your cell. Emailed back! Let's simply get together with who ever can... If we need to move up to the marina where you are having the gathering to make it a "pre-gathering" meeting, let me know. That will work too. I simply know at some point we will go down to Dan and Arlines boats. Way flexible on this end.

Chris: Thanks for the call yesturday. Look forward to seeing you at lunch today. Not sure if Don on Jenny-B can join us or not but hopefully so. Have cell phone on, looked for Hwy 75 bridge that crosses Coronado Bay and see a batch of restaurants, (Tartine, Deli by the Bay, Bay Beach Cafe & Peohe's) ....

After reading this.... I will attempt to find Boathouse Restaurant and the Hotel Del Coronado......but will still take hand held GPS for coordinates if we do not hook up right away. See Ya around noon!

AND>>>> Pat-n-Patty & Bill-n-El.... I will check Chris's vessel today to make sure he has no dirty blue fenders on board..... Flashback to our Mt.Julitet/Nashville Gathering last Apr05. Great time and see yall soon.
Byrdman..... in San Diego and loving it!!!

Oh I intend to be there, Pat. Tonight the bay will be filled with small boats, all waiting to see the fireworks show but noon today it should be decently quiet. The green frog is easy to spot. :wink

Indeed it was.

A brace of Brats caused the usual tourist photo op flurry at the Coronado temp dock while we waited for the World Famous C-Dory collector "Byrdman" and his lovely bride. A good time was had by all as the "Mini Gathering" lunched then previewed the bay in preparation for the Presidents Day Gathering in February.

Unfortunately I had to leave during the bay tour, but by the time I reached North County it was raining hard and between 3 and 5pm that rain caused over 50 accidents in the greater San Diego area due, primarily, to our lack of experience driving under those conditions. The Beach Boys had it almost right: "It never rains in Southern California" unless Pat Byrd visits.

I think photos will be posted. Pat was busy snapping away, but I forgot my camera AND I'll never again forget to pull my fenders in. :embarrased

Oh, Lawsy Me -- the Brydman took more photos of "fender goofs?"

Glad to hear all had a fine cruise and time together, but sorry to hear about the rain. Thanks for doing a pre-run for all -- sounds like a great Gathering coming up.

Yes it was a great time, great foof and great friends. AND MY WIFE SHERRYL WAS THERE....!!!!! SO YALL KNOW NOW I DO HAVE ONE....

Now will attempt to find a San Diego Gathering thred/photo albumn to post a pic or two.... with and without fenders,

We may have some "fender etiquette" quirks here in So Cal...but back in Byrdman country they will board your vessel and bring their fenders with them...and they don't even care what color they are! Rana Azul???

So, assessing the damage from Christmas and our Thanksgiving Tucson trip, and the need to pay bills and all, we have pretty much decided we won't be able to make the San Diego gig - this year anyway... :cry

A few photos added to the San Diego Gathering album taken as the Motley Crew surveyed the bay for the upcoming President's Day event.

The USS Ronald Reagan left just two days ago for it's first deployment so it won't be around.

All photos courtesy of Pat Byrd, aka Byrdman.

I am thinking we might be able to make this. Is there still room? Do I need to make any reservations or do anything?
Thanks,
Steve

Hey, Mike or Bill, the photo album for San Diego is great and already has some pictures from the folks who were in San Diego scouting out the places and events. Now, when you get a moment, we'd appreciate having a sign-up sheet for the actual San Diego Gathering. Thanks.

No trouble at all. Are the dates confirmed as February 16-19, 2006?

OK then, the signup list is there, the event has been added to the Calendar, and the thread title has been altered to place it properly on the front page list. El and Bill initiated the discussion thread, so they have been jointly set as the Group Moderator, Camp Director, Babysitter, Facilitator, Concierge, Dictator, President, and General Counsel. However, they are sometimes difficult to catch at home, so maybe someone else wants to take on the honorable role? (It doesn't really involve much, but it's cool to have your name up in lights. Kind of like being the Queen without the money and jewels.)
