01/25 - 01/27 - 2013 Seattle Boat Show

Does anyone know whether any dealers are planning on having any C-Dorys at the Seattle Boat Show in January? We're specifically interested in the CD-22, CD-25, Venture 23 & 26 and the Tomcat. So many possibilities, but only one final choice... In the meantime, we're learning a lot reading the many posts here. There's a lot of knowledge and experience being shared - a great resource!

Dave-

I don't know about the dealers at the boat show, but can tell you this:

Reading the wealth of knowledge and opinions here will be very informative and revealing. Keep it up! You can't take in too much that way!

However, the one thing you'll miss that way is the actual boat examination, which can partially be done at a boat show, but would also be greatly enhanced by going to a C-Brat Get-Together for a weekend, where you could examine first hand all the alternatives and custom adaptations, as well as talk to owners.

I wouldn't buy a boat without doing them all, knowing what I know after owning one for 14 years and participating on these C-Dory web sites.

It's an expensive choice, worth doing right the first time!

Good Luck!

Come on down. Even if the boats aren't at the show (and it's my understanding that at least a subset of C-Dory's will be shown), I'm sure you can see all the models you want to via the C-Brats. I'd be happy to show you my Tomcat for example.

Has anyone explored bringing their C-Dory to Bell Harbor? I seem to remember hearing that they get pretty full during the boat show. But it could be fun and I may try to do it if the weather cooperates and I have the time.

Sam,

Yes, I have, and it is a much more economical stay. I have considered it for several Seattle functions, but there are some hindrances, like no washdown facility at Brownsville, where I would launch from, and the weather would have to be looking pretty good too, allowing the crossing and return to the workforce..

Just a thought though,

What happened to the "Event Signup" for the 2013 SBS/CBGT?

All I get are "Non-Member Groups" when I click on the "Event Signups" above.

(I'm a member, and have signed in.)

Did we ever have one?

Getting ready for the first rain of the Fall/Winter here in Redding, Ca. tonight. Have had a very warm and dry October, so far. May snow above 5000 feet.

The cooler weather perks up the trout fishing in Shasta Lake in the Fall and winter. Will put the C-Dory in the water at the marina soon, and bring home the pontoon boat.

The Boat Show/Get Together starts looking very attractive as the winter weather gradually sets in, but you guys in Seattle and the northern climes already know that (!)

Still considering the options:
1. At the hotel --Share a room if some other single guy wants to split one.
2. Take the boat over to Bell Harbor and join Sam. (split the cab fair or whatever.) Mostly I am allergic to Seattle, traffic and crowds.

I don't think I ever made the thing. I'll get right after it. Do we need a separate one for the Brews & Blues Fest?

OK the first list is there. I put Rogerbum as the Group Moderator/Cruise Director/Den Mother. Should I have put Tom in there instead? I know how those two fight and I do not want to cause any trouble. Maybe I should just assign it to Susan.

I think it should be either Roger Elliott or Tom Bumgarner. I've never heard of those two arguing (and I think they both use Scotty downrigger clips)

I'll be giving a talk/slideshow of last summers trip to SE Alaska on Tuesday 1/29 (5:00pm) and Thursday 1/31 (2:00pm) if any Brats are in the area. Unfortunately neither is scheduled during the CBGT.

I'll also be working at the Waggoner/Fine Edge booth throughout the show. And with any luck, I'll be able to make it to the C-Brat festivities.

Sam

I notice the sign-ups for the Boat Show and Get Together seem to be lagging way behind the normal yearly participation, totaling only 6 boats/members at this point, and only about a month (6 weeks) away from the event itself (!)

Is the cost of the hotel or the lack of factory participation holding things back?

What can we do to compensate? What else can be added?

Do we need to review the schedule for the weekend's activities for everyone?

Do quite a few of you plan to attend that haven't added your name to the lists yet?

Do you still need to make travel plans, reservations, and add your name to the list?

Joe,

We will be attending but will not be staying at the hotel. Without factory participation as the core and with the increased travel costs, it seems inevitable that the SBS CBGT will be much less well attended than in years past. Too bad but things change.

Barry-

Yes, I understand, and will look forward to seeing you and all those attending in January!

A few changes to the schedule -

1) We'll be going to the brewery on Friday night instead of Saturday. Many have indicated that a pot luck there wasn't practical and apparently it's not practical (I think due to health department reasons) for the brewery either. So we'll be doing a similar deal to what we did last year. E.g. a nominal fee of $15/head to cover the food. Cash bar. I though this worked out great last year and I appreciate that Pat and David are willing to do this.
2) Saturday night - the banquet space at the hotel was fine as far as I was concerned but was a bit pricey for many of our group and I wasn't willing to personally shell out the extra cash to secure it. Hence, we won't have the "traditional pot luck". However, I'm not one who worries too much about tradition and I think the key is really to have some time/space where we can get together and talk. Hence, I've arranged for a group dinner at a Chinese (Four Seas). restaurant that's not too far from the boat show. They can accomodate most any size group. They're prepared for us to sit around and B.S. for a long period of time and they also have no problem with us bringing in a large cake (that part of the tradition, I didn't think we could do without). I've asked them to put together a menu in the $15/head range. I've been to Four Seas before for dimsum and it's pretty decent. They'll have a few dimsum items on the menu (potstickers and pork and crab rangoon hombow). It's about a 6-7 block walk from the N end of the Century Link stadium.

As Dave and Barry said, thanks for the prodding on remembering to sign up Joe.

We made hotel reservations over there (we will indeed be staying at the Silver cloud) a long time back but I had neglected to actually sign-up for the SBS CBGT thru the C-Brats site. Have now done so.

We look forward to seeing folks whenever and wherever we have the good fortune to catch up with you!

Take care,
Dan and Tanya Denver

Just finishing looking at the 2013 SBS web site. Looked at exhibitors by boat brand. C-dory's are listed as exhibited by Master Marine, Triton and Waypoint. Looks like their will be C-dory's at the show. It would be nice to know what models are going to be displayed.

I just got off the phone with Scott Boysen at Triton Marine. Master Marine will be displaying a 22CD an Osprey (also Trito built) and several other boats. Triton and Waypoint Boats will be displaying a Venture 23, at least one SeaSport (and probably some other boats carried by Waypoint). I've invited Scott to attend either or both the dinners on Friday or Saturday night.
