01/21 - 01/23 Seattle Boat Show/C-Brat Gathering

as ya'll know, the boat show is scheduled for Jan. 21 thru Jan.30
we have always had our gathering the first weekend so I will start setting things in motion for the CBGT to be held the 21st-23rd of Jan.
I talked with some of the Brats at the Sequim gathering about the possibility of moving the venue North of Seattle since the factory is no longer South of town. I really like where we have been the last couple of years but I am throwing out the sugestion to ya'll to get a feeling of which way the wind is blowing. a plus for moving may be that we can get a larger room for the evening festivities but one of the minuses would be that there would probably not be a shuttle bus to and from the airport. I am not sure how important this is but I am listening for your feedback.

Linda and my wife will be home from vacationing in paradise tomorrow and I will put her to work looking for some motels north of town to look at.

so start planning for the weekend of the 21st for a great social event and some fun.

That's why they invented rental cars.... We will not only go to the show, we will go to "Shipwreck Beads" all the way in Tacoma, and spend more there than we ever did at the show!! :disgust

You guys can ride with Sally and I if you like!! :thup

North of town would be great from my perspective. It would be much easier to get to for me and would allow me to spend more time visiting in the evening. One option that might also be worth considering is the Silver Cloud Inn on Lake Union. It will be a bit pricier but not bad for a downtown place. It has the advantage of being within walking distance of the Boat's A Float part of the show. It's also within walking distance of my work.

As far as north of town goes, there's several places in the Lynnwood or Mill Creek areas that are nice and reasonably priced but I do think you'll probably need to get that far north to get good prices and nice spaces.
 
Silver Cloud looks fine to me. Walking to the in water boat show is attractive. Have Linda check it out when she gets back and see what she can do for us!

Just made our flight reservations. Arriving on Thursday PM 20 Jan, Departing on Monday AM 24 Jan. Will stay wherever the Brats are swarming at on Thursday-Sat nights and near SEATAC on Sunday night!

Looking forward to renewing acquaintenances again, particularly Dusty and SeaWolf Joe and Sneaks! It'll be like the Old Brats Home! :mrgreen:
 
In the past, the location for the CBGT during the SBS was because of its proximity to SEATAC airport, the C-Dory factory, and Qwest Field. But now that the factory is 2 hours North, I don't see the factory being a relevent part of the CBGT location decision.

I think a location convenient to both the SBS and the airport is all that is important now to facilitate those traveling.

That being said, I still firmly believe that some sort of gathering at the factory is vital to the C-Dory ownership experience. The relationship between builder and owner is on a positive upward trend and should be cultivated by both parties. I suggest the potluck for the annual Bellingham CBGT should be held at the factory. Perhaps some that normally travel to Seattle for the Boat Show would shift their vacation plans to attend the Bellingham get together instead.

Another thought: what would it cost--per person--to charter a bus that could transport people from, say, Lake Union to the factory and back one evening?
 
In the past, there have been plenty of folks with cars that can transport them what hasn't cars, to events, including the harbor cruise, factory, show, Lake Union, etc. IMHO, we don't need to introduce another "arrangement" into the equation for the "arrangers".

I will have a rental car large enough to handle another couple. If they don't mind bugs in their teeth, more can ride on top.... :mrgreen:

Maybe lake Union or somewhere near there would facilitate us being able to do in water show and be a cab ride or car ride to Quest field (boat show) and close enough to seatac for those coming by plane (like us)

For those who wanted to .Maybe the factory could arrange tours although they might be quite busy. Since this is there major show in pnw .

If we go south same place as last year if we go north somewhere near lake Union for seeing in water show just my 2cents worth but wherever it is we will be there. Jim and Loree
 
Rick, I suggested the same thing regarding chartering a bus to go to the former Wright Brothers (SeaSport) factory last year - I was not fully tuned in to what stresses Scott and the Lindhouts were under at the time!

I doubt a potluck at the factory would fly, it is really a pretty small place, but I'll bet a busload of Brats going from the hotel to Ferndale would not be totally out of the question - but that is up to the Triton Marine folks, not us! I would sign up!

if memory service, the boat show offers a shuttle from the floating show to the show down town. its a short walk from the silver cloud to the floating show. this way you could do both shows and the silver cloud has or can arrange transport to the air port.
 
It was great seeing you at the Sequim Gathering Roger! Real nice of you to come join us at the dock and we all really enjoyed the Dungeness crabs you provided. Also, real thoughtful of you to catch up with some C-Brats at the Ranger get-together in Bremerton.

Being able to walk to the Lake Union Boats-Afloat portion of the SBS would be neat though since - due to my wife not wanting to brave the outdoor weather elements - I have not been to Lake Union to see that part of the show previously.

However; whatever is best for others is great for us and we will be happy to join the other C-Brats at whatever hotel facility you decide on.

I think that a gathering centered around the Seattle Boatshow would be a great idea. I would be more than willing to open up the plant and do a barbeque/potluck for any C-Dory owners attending the show. Lets put this on the calendar and start the ball rolling.

Thanks, Scott! Perfect, this is going to be a blast - would beer be welcomed? (Does the Pope wear a pointy hat, does the bear...in the woods, you get the drift).

Charlie, you mentioned purchasing another 65' Corvette in another thread. Maybe you could buy several in Seattle so we could each drive one around the state.... :mrgreen:

As far as the bugs are concerned, we don't have bugs in Western Washington, they all drowned years ago from the rain. :roll: .

I appreciate the thought BUT just so you know what you might be getting yourself into...
At the previous factory gatherings I think there were well over 100 C-Brats in attendance. Given the size of the current plant, it would be very tough to accommodate that many. At the old factory during it's peak size, they had a lot of tables and chairs brought in to deal with a dinner there. I don't think you have the space at the current plant even if you tented in the outside portion of the yard. I don't want to put a damper on this at all, but I want to make sure that you have some idea of the scale of the potential size of the group so that you can perhaps adjust your commitment accordingly.

My suggestion would be that you do tours of the plant at one or more designated times with a limit to the number of people who can sign up for any given time. I'd also suggest that you (and/or others from the factory) participate in the pot luck at the hotel once it is arranged. That way you get to meet people in a social setting at the potluck and people can see the factory without it being to much trouble given the space available there.
