Cost of shipping a 22 from CA to Midwest

Give the railroad a try. I know it's not their normal cargo but it should fit easily. You could have it shrink wrapped for the trip. Wade

Flushing the engine will in the water

Ear muffs work fine under water. Tilt motor up, install, tilt down without moving muffs and run as usual, turn off motor, tilt up, remove. I used to do it that way to keep the neighbors happy after late night flounder gigging or shrimping. Wade

Rough water fuel economy? kicker or main

Hidey hole's worked out in advance. Not even all that ugly just quite a bit less than perfect. Trying to learn what the best option would be if the situation had been worse. As I've said I understand the handling issues with the kicker. Thanks for the flow meter data, wish it was for a 22...

Rough water fuel economy? kicker or main

Thanks for your replys I understand the control issues and would always opt for the main in those conditions. I wasn't worried about saving any money. I would have paid a pretty penny, even by todays standards, for a can of fuel. A 40 ft diesel bayliner was running along side us, after we...

Rough water fuel economy? kicker or main

Hello All I am looking for some of your collective wisdom. If you were out and the weather deteriorated, a lot. You had to slog back at low speed (4-5 knots, short chop, head sea) to keep from abusing the boat yourself and the boss, would you (A) use the kicker at moderate rpm. (B) use the...

    Fish box..????

I can vouch for the effectiveness of Marks rig on the former 2nd Byte. :D It works great! I keep what you would call a medium sized cooler with ice drinks and lunch under the table or where ever, put a few fish in the bag then add some ice and repeat as necessary. I was never a big fan of the...

    Generator on New TomCat

I have a 13,500 on my camper 8) that runs on a eu2000i. Some AC units have a soft start feature. Go to the RV boards for in depth discussions of which models will and won't work with the 2000. Later Wade

Help! Honda 150 Wouldn't Start Today!

Check for spark...Check for spark.... If that motor still has a carburetor, pull the choke knob while cranking. My Honda 90 has a choke solenoid problem and will NOT start without manually pulling the knob. I know I should fix it but it just never seems to make the top of the list. Good luck Wade

    fox-trots!!

    8) stuff !!! Can't seem to keep those Alaska tennies out of the pic's :wink . It is very generous of you to post all the wonderful stuff you do, as some folks don't get to live in the Great Land, and some who live here don't actually LIVE here or anywhere else, they exist. All the shots are...

    Tongue weight

Hello If it doesn't sway leave it alone unless it's way off. The rv boards seem's to recommend 10-15% of total weight. On the bathroom scale thing you have to use a lever arm and multiply the results. Try this link http://www.rverscorner.com/articles/tongueweight.html I have found it quite...

    Hi-yas!

Mr Red Fox and crew You should tell the locals there is going to be a celebrity visit! We, the local contingent, would have take time off for an event of this magnatude :) I was cleaning the yard in preperation for snow and working on a generator distribution panel both things easily...

    Purrrdy Guns

On the recoil subject:  Back in the spring I bought a 340 Weatherby and was worried about the recoil before the gun even got here. I built a recoil reducer/adjustable shooting rest for range work. Mine is made out of an old Subaru scissors jack and some angle iron, but Caldwell makes a...

    RedFox's going-away party... ;]

We had a crane lift ours on both ends of the trip. The guy in South Carolina lifted it and hauled it 40+ miles to the rail head for $600. I called a company here in Seward and the girl ball parked, picking it up and setting it down, at $300, that sounded good and from 5000 miles away getting a...

    RedFox's going-away party... ;]

I bought a once used 40 with doors both ends for around $3500 in Savannah. We stacked it really full and shipped it from the Savannah rail head to my yard in Seward for $4900 rail/sea/truck included. The guy quoted me a price without weighing it, the price was for household goods and garage...

    Heavy Equipment?

Last fall I looked all over south central for a nice back-hoe. Most are worn out or new and over priced. Pick up a heavy equiptment trader news paper. Look in the online papers around the state and the Denali credit union on line ad's. Also most importantly be patient and look in your back...

    07/02 - 07/03, Naked Island, Alaska

Dogon Dory, Dan Thanks for the personal invite but we won't be able to make it. The delayed reply is because the company was deciding on which dates to grace us with their presence. I'd much rather be in PWS than here entertaining relatives. Thanks again maybe next year Wade

Maiden voyage, now I see the light!!

If I remember correctly this is the 7th windlass I have used, the others were on 5 different boats, and EVERY one had a failure of one kind or another! Only a couple of times did they totaly not work, the other times the problems were just jams and fuses. I'm pretty sure I don't get along with...

Maiden voyage, now I see the light!!

That boat rides great. The fact that you can stay on plane at such a slow speed makes the ride a lot better than my last V-hull. I'm not a big fan of the cut out transom, filled the motor well several times, but I guess I'll get used to it. Also got a little water over the bow so it was a good...

Looking for the former owner of 2nd Byte Fairbanks

:cat :dog :cat It would be good to see another C-Dory in the bay. As far as local knowledge is concerned Waterball is the man! He'll have to show us both the spots. I know a little less than nothing about fishing over here. That's going to change starting tomorrow, I hope. I have a few...
