Be cautious of the quiescent ("off" state) power consumption of these. I have no idea what they are, but some could be as much as what you are trying to control in the first place. Just something to check.

From what I read on forums, these are anywhere from 150-300W in real-world scenarios. Even if you had 100% efficiency converting to 120V, 150W at 12V = 12.5A. 12.5A for a day is 300 amp hours! That's a lot of battery! That assumes you're not using 12V for ANYTHING else. Likely, however...

If I remember right, most have a screw stud on the back of the case that is the main ground [used to get strapped right to the frame of a car installation] - but the newer units might be different.

Sounds like maybe a ground problem. Did you connect a really good ground to the radio and/or it's case?
