    Best very small dinghy motor

I wonder with the higher compression ratios due to the higher octane propane, if the engines will last as long. I assume they are using existing gasoline engine blocks.

    Best very small dinghy motor

I've had the 3.5 hp Tohatsu and absolutely loved it. Thought it was the best small motor I ever had. Quiet, smooth, and started on the firs pull. I had it on a little tender that one summer I kept on my sailboat. I would flush the outboard out in a little 2 gallon bath room trash bin that I...

The Coast Guard would NOT love this guy....

There's an outboard hole visible in one of the pictures of the boat hanging from a crane. For a sailboat to sink like this, a large portion of the keel would come out of the water. In general a sailboats keel will keep the sinking sailboat nice and level... all the way to the bottom. Near me...

The Coast Guard would NOT love this guy....

I think it's pretty obvious that a small sized sailboat wouldn't sink like that.

    Which brand?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Tohatsu. I've had their smaller 4 stroke engines and think they are better than Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, all of which I have had or used extensively, and hear nothing but excellent comments on their larger low pressure direct injection two strokes. Relatively...

    Outboard(s) Up or Down ?

With any carburetor outboard, I make sure to run the carburetor dry after each use. This will prevent any fuel leaking out of it when tilting it up and prevent or at least greatly reduce the chance of a float getting stuck. Make sure to have a fuel stabilizer in the fuel also.

    100 Miles Per Gallon

Steam turbines used on nuclear powered submarines and possibly all steam turbines used in conjunction with a nuclear reactor do not super heat the steam and thus have at best saturated steam entering the turbine. As soon as you get expansion, you get condensate lowering the steam quality and...

    Just Bought my First Motorcycle!

Congrats on the new bike. I had a KLR250 a long long time ago. a 1992 model year. It was fun riding, a little underpowered for highway use though, ok for light off-road, but too heavy for any serious off road riding, but had a lot of fun with it when I was young. A few years ago I decided...

    Tankage material

Plastic water tanks eventual give that "plastic" taste. Not sure if you can filter that out. Plastic holding tanks eventually allow the smell to permeate through, plus they hold the smell and stain in them making them impossible to clean out. I know I tried cleaning all the hoses and holding...

    Tankage material

It seems like you can find a boat with just about every type of material used for it's fresh water, holding, and fuel tanks. What's the best material for long term durability for each of these (for gasoline and for diesel for the fuel tank)? Thanks. -Mark

    Wood core or not?

Does anyone know some cruiser/trawler manufacturers that do not use wood (either plywood or balsa) in the coring of their decks, cabins, etc? I only know of Seaway boats and Great Harbour Trawlers that do not. Also anyone have any knowledge or experience with the Camano line of boats? They...

    Living Aboard

$470/month for a 30' liveaboard slip compared to $250/month w/o living aboard is a big difference, for basically just using a little more water?

    Living Aboard

Has anyone on here actually lived aboard their boat for more than a few weeks at a time? How do the costs compare to living on land? If you don't include the purchase price of the boat and compare it to owning a house out right, what is the cost comparison? Living in what size house would...

    Turning the corner?

Rank and file public employees, they make a meager salary and an even meager pension, but some folks are outraged even at that. I think the bottom line to our economic situation here in the US is, the standard of living here is going down, there's no denying the simply fact that we do not...
