I would try some of the plastic "slide" things over bare wood and skip the carpet entirely. There's a reason there are several posts already about how staples and roof nails corrode. Also, the carpet holds moisture, making the wood deteriorate faster. Also, the carpet holds salt (in salt water)...

I'm blessed to know almost nothing about how snow and boats interact. ;) But I did come across a cool solution for tying off your dink yesterday. Insert your mooring lines through PVC pipe (another guy suggested pool noodles) to make them sorta rigid. Holds the boat away without need for fenders.

Continuing our little off-topic journey, the last time I knew the rules I seem to recall that the 12,500 was for pilots carrying passengers. It wasn't until 15,000 that passengers were to be supplied with oxygen, which is why I used that number. But you're right that it's going to be different...

I have flown an unpressurized Beech 18 for many hours above 10,000. People are OK up to about 15k.
