    Garmin GPS 740s

Has anyone played with or bought the new Garmin 740s? West Marine has them in a bundle with a 18HD Radar dome for $2599. I have been lusting over the Garmin 4008 but this seems like a pretty good deal. It's touch screen and extremely easy to use and fast. They also accept the v2 vision card...

    DeWalt Battery Drills

This is waaaaay off topic but I was in Lowe's today and they have DeWalt 1/2" chuck 18 volt battery drills with two batteries and the charger in the plastic case on sale for $99. These are normally $279. I spoke with the salesman because I thought they might be priced incorrectly but he told me...

    1958 Fabuglas

I came across some old pictures of a 1958 Fabuglas we had when I was a kid. This was the second fiberglass boat we had. The lines on it were beautiful and it was powered by a 35 HP Evinrude. I would go 25 MPH and in the day that was flying! There's another pic in my album showing the interior.

    Boat Ramps

I started to start a thread on boat ramps but thought I'd get opinions of others before beginning. My thought was since I'm in Florida I could start a thread entitled "Florida Boat Ramps" so it would be easy to find. Perhaps others could add to it and some could start threads from other areas...

    Buddy's boat

A young friend of mine moved his family to Kenai Alaska several years ago. He does a lot of fishing and hunting while working mostly on pipeline related stuff. If you run across him say hello from me. His name is Steve and you'll easily recognize him he's 6'9" and a great young man with wife and...

    The Racoon and the clam

I walked out on my dock this morning to empty my crab traps (had 19 plus 2 soft shells) and on the way back in I noticed a racoon about four foot from the dock in the marsh grass. This isn't unusual but this time he didn't move just stared at me. My first thought was rabid racoon and I went to...

    Antenna Range Calculator

I stumbled across this interesting calculator which tells you the difference in range between different height antennas. If this is correct there really isn't a lot of difference in range between a 4' and a 8' antenna. http://www.qsl.net/kd4sai/distance.html

    Oops

Don't know how good this picture will upload it was taken with a cell phone. If you notice the two white pvc pipes on either side of the boat and if you look closer you can see a winch. Poor guy launched his boat and trailer and he drifted about a mile from the ramp before my Buddy towed him...

Blue Crab Fishing on St Johns

This is a young friend of mine whose family has been commercial fishing in the St Johns's here in Florida for generations. Thought some of you PNW guys might like to see how it's done on the right coast. Most traps around here are set in less than 10' of water in and around the ICW...

    Suzuki Tach

I installed a Lowrance LMF 200 a while back to get fuel flow. In doing this I noticed it read 400 RPM's lower than the Suzuki analog tach. I'm inclined to believe the LMF is correct and the Suzuki gauge reads low. Anyone else experience this? It really isn't any big deal but in trying to tweak...

    First Fiberglass Boat

This is our first fiberglass boat in 1954. We bought it well used and it was made by the old Herters Sporting Good Company. My Dad claimed it was the first fiberglass boat in Wilmington NC. The braces in it were cast aluminum and eventually corroded away and were replace with white oak. It was...

    Lung Transplant

I know no one would like to give medical advice especially over the internet but I'd like to know since there is so much wisdom on this site if anyone has any experience with Lung Transplants. I just finished a 9 day cruise from Indiantown Florida across the Okeechobee Canal to the North end of...

    I've Heard It All

My life is complete I have now heard it all. Years ago when I was a young apprentice I was changing and electrical service on an elderly gentleman's house. The old fellow followed me step by step while I worked. It was the winter and pretty cold. The old gentleman explained to me that it never...

    Suzuki Flushing Port

I've been getting my boat ready for a little trip south which involved a new water pump, oil change, plugs etc. I read on another site about the internal anodes on Suzuki's so I ordered a few. At 350 hours my external anodes look good. Just to check it out I took the covers off the internal...

    Camp Lejeune

With all the veterans on this site it may pay you to take a look at the following link if you were stationed at Camp Lejeune between 68 and 85. Apparently they have discovered the drinking water was contaminated with PCE and TCE. I don't have a clue what this is but here's the link...

    Small World

I got a PM this morning from Steve (Wander Sagebrush) inquiring about Jacksonville and the Saint Johns. Seems as he was in "A" school here in 1967 but now lives in Oregon. In conversation we discovered we were both in the same "A" school class 41 years ago. Steve was in the Marines and I was in...

    Redneck Jacuzzi

I got a kick out of the recent thread on hot tubs and it brought a funny story to mind. Last summer I was working on my dock, every few years silt builds up around and in my boathouse from passing boats and I was blowing it out with my old Mercury. The drill is I tie off to the pilings on and...
