    Tach problem

Had a 90 Honda on my 2002 Lund Alaskan. Once or twice the tach would show almost double the actual rpms. Never could find a connection problem but the "thump" worked each time. Harper

    butane stove questions

Thanks Dr. Bob. A story like this makes the slight smell, slowness, messy filling and relative bulk of our two burner portable alcohol stove not such a big deal. In fact I consider it a big improvement over the wood fire or small gasoline stove I used during my backpacking days. Harper

    Transmit Problem w/ VHF Radio

Yeah Harvey, it was indeed an operator problem with me. I've been using two way radios for many years and usually pick the handset up with my right hand, palm down and key the transmit button with my thumb. This leaves the grill open between my thumb and index finger. With the ICOM handset the...

    Transmit Problem w/ VHF Radio

Casey, Thanks much for bringing this topic up. I too had on and off transmission problems with my ICOM. After seeing your solution I realized that I was covering the mike hole with my hand. Testing confirmed this and my problem is solved. Harper

    Harry Truman and C-Brats

Yeah! I already know what I think, it's much more interesting to hear the diverse opinions of others. Once in a while I even come to realize that my original thoughts were misguided. Go Brats! Harper

    Unintended Acceleration Issue

Localboy Mark's discussion of the VW Beetles brought back a lot of fond memories from the 60's. I had a '63 Beetle and my younger brother a much older one. His finally started using lots of oil and the 36 horses were losing steam. We decided to rebuild the engine and bought a shop manual. We...

    09/24 - 10/02 - Lake Powell 2010

I just received my Stan Jones Lake Powell map yesterday. Although I've been to points on Lake Powell I never realized how large and sprawling a body it is. Still awaiting arival of the cruising guide that has been recommended here. If we go out in September we'll probably stay for a few weeks...

    Unintended Acceleration Issue

Mark, That's what I have always thought too. The one event that brings a question to that theory is that one of the most publicized accidents was when a California Highway Patrolman with 19 years of LE experience was at the wheel of a Lexus when it crashed after several miles of apparent...

    Unintended Acceleration Issue

There has been some discussion of this issue in other threads and some of the problem vehicles are those we use to tow our boats. The current edition of Car and Driver Magazine had an interesting and relevant article concerning the unintended acceleration issue. They tested a V-6 Camry (subject...

Off Topic - motorhome or travel trailer?

Earlier in this thread I mentioned the Chinook Class C with the molded fiberglass body built on a van chassis that went out of business a few years back. We've just had the opportunity to buy one configured like we want from some people I have known most of my life for probably a great price...

Off Topic - motorhome or travel trailer?

Paul, That Tiger looks like an ideal RV for many things. I need 4WD just to get home in the winter months which a pickup based Class C would provide. The extensive use you have given it has certainly tested the quality. Thanks, Harper

Off Topic - motorhome or travel trailer?

I thought I was a true minimalist until meeting El and Bill on this site. I grew up camping in tents and later backpacking and canoe camping. We bought a Casita travel trailer many years ago (1996). The Casita is a 17 foot molded fiberglass trailer. It is built like a boat with the bottom and...

    Boats you have owned

Well Jim B. after seeing your motorcycle list I thought your boat list might take two pages. My list is short also: 1. Grumman 17' shoe keel canoe, took it on the wildest rivers I could find in W. Va., Va. and NC. Also several trips to the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area. Looked like it...

Joe, Thanks for helping with the photo, maybe I'll figure the system out one day. Toyman, You are right indeed. We plan to do something about it, at least temporarily, when we can get her out. Harper
