Wanderer and Naknek in Prince Rupert, B.C.

Wanderer and Naknek arrived in Prince Rupert B.C. today, some 1100 nm from our starting point in Anacortes. This is more than half of our north bound goal. Halcyon took a side trip and is a few days behind. Don't know how long this Wifi hotspot will last. Will try to send more tomorrow.

    04/20 - 04/30 - Lake Powell

Great Pictures. I know. I was there and saw the real thing. Hope to get some of my own up on our 2Wander site. Don't know when I'll have time. Expect to leave with Halcyon and her crew for Lopez this morning. North after that. Penny and I had a great time. Met some new and interesting...

    Flying the flag

If you fly your national flag on a C-Dory, what flag holder do you use and where do you fly it? What about a courtesy flag? Where and how do you fly a courtesy flag?

Towing with a class C motorhome?

Leo, I don't have anything to add to the link that Charlie pointed you to. Other than the tow home from the dealer, we have towed with a Tahoe. One day I would like to take a trip where we tow with the motorhome, stay in a campground while we explore the area by land and water. When not...

    Anacortes to Skagway

Chivita, Sorry it has taken so long for me to thank you for your informative post and your offer for help. Our children and grandchildren were here (Marathon, FL Keys) for a week. I wasn't "allowed" much boating activity that did not involve taking them out. This morning I took the boat...

    The Wanderers

Rich, Nice to hear that the Erie Canal section was useful. Yes, still wandering. We spent some time on the SW Coast of Florida this winter. Check out: http://2wander.com/2wander/South%20West%20Florida/Cruising%20SW%20Florida.htm

    Radar - Shortening Cable

The cable that came with my Raymarine radar is 15m long. I have installed the radar using it. There is about 40 feet of cable that is not needed. Has anyone shortened this cable? If so, tips? Problems? The installation manual suggest how to shorten the cable; but, it is silent on whether...

    Anacortes to Skagway

Thanks to all of you. I should no longer be surprised at the willingness of C-Brats to provide useful information. Yesterday, Penny and I installed radar anticipating a trip to the NW. Today the charts and guides for the entire route should arrive. After we have a chance to study them, we...

Installing Radar - Degree of dip?

John (Blue Crab), We will not be at the Chesapeake Gathering unless our NW plans fall apart. We'll miss you all. Best,

    Anacortes to Skagway

Penny and I are looking into ways for a hauling/shipping company to get our tow vehicle and trailer with or without CD22 from near Seattle to Skagway or Haines in Alaska where they will store them until we get there by boat. The perfect situation would be a company that loads the rig, ships...

Installing Radar - Degree of dip?

Again, thanks for the responses. I had to chuckle when Les made his comment about the only reason to do the math for dip was for the fun of it. Right on! I’ve never thought it critical one way or another. Raymarine suggests that the installer provide for it – hence my initial question. I...

Installing Radar - Degree of dip?

I'm thinking of installing the radome so that I can carry my dinghy inflated and upside down with the bow forward of the radar. Three issues come to mind: Will it work, will the signal damage the dinghy and if I move the radome back to allow room aft of the light pole for the tube will I have...

Installing Radar - Degree of dip?

I thank each of you for taking the time to respond. Most answers seem to fall in two catagories: it depends…, and doesn’t matter. Both are probably (real-world) good answers. For the record, I did notice that no one answered the question. Les has the experience to know what works. Me, I...

Installing Radar - Degree of dip?

Thanks Charlie. If I can get out tomorrow with a level and a ruler I can get the tangent of the angle when on a plane. However, I'd rather be working on the installation. Did you ever get the pictures I sent you?

Installing Radar - Degree of dip?

What angle do you think the water line makes with the water when a CD 22 is on a plane? The Raymarine I've just bought scans in a horiz plane +/- 12.5 vertical degrees. I want to introduce a dip in the radar when at rest so that on a plane the sweep is horiz. The 5 inch high mounting bracket...

    Anacortes to Skagway

I have just ordered radar to add to our Raymarine C80 chart plotter. In addition, I have ordered the charts and the Douglass Guides, for the region from Seattle to Skagway and around the corner to Valdez. So, unless plans change, or the radar does not arrive in time for me to install it, we...

    Upper Yukon River

Jay and Jolee, Great story! I can picture the Carmacks area from a trip we made in our RV in 04. Further, from the glimpses of the Yukon River that I remember, I have great admiration for your river running skills. You mentioned a Sat phone and prop protectors. I'd like to learn more about...
