GPS and VHF shot - do I replace or leave it to the next owne

Following extensive research (I read the boxes) and careful selection criteria (what was in stock), I purchased a Garmin echoMap 74DV and a Standard Horizon Eclipse GX1300 I don't believe overthinking things like this has ever helped :)

GPS and VHF shot - do I replace or leave it to the next owne

Jordan Lake in North Carolina. It's a reservoir of good size but "traffic " is irrelevant. I'd be replacing the equipment and not sure what I would buy. It would be fairly basic because my boating style is basic. Don't have radar or need for lots of backups. When I'm not on the lake I plan to...

GPS and VHF shot - do I replace or leave it to the next owne

Just returned from the boat shop where I saw my 22 all waxed and shined and looking pretty. Fixed a few items and it should be good to go EXCEPT the GPS is fried and the VHF has gone insane. The GPS has power to it but the actual unit seems shot. The VHF is stuck in distress mode and can't be...

Tire update and on to chartplotters

Like I'd only own one boat? :smileo I started with a 16 and sold it after I got the 22. I have no idea how to edit photo albums

Tire update and on to chartplotters

I took the 22 into Discount Tire to get new tires. The service manager explained there were a couple different options. I tuned out until he was done explaining and then asked which ones I should get. He told me and 15 minutes later I had new rubber meeting the road. Some things don't need over...

    One last tire question

Against all my better instincts, I took Jim's advice and went to Discount Tire and verified they have tires in stock. The guy told me a bunch of stuff and I asked him which tire I should buy. He picked one and that's what I'm going with! I'm bringing the boat over on Friday to have them...

    One last tire question

Does anyone else think it's bizarre that the tire measurements are part metric and part English? Thanks to all the responses, I now know what I need. Probably.

    One last tire question

Out of an abundance of caution, I went to the boat yesterday to check the tires one more time before ordering new ones. The lettering on the tire at various places was K550 Load Range D ST 225/75 D 15 I then measured the rim diameter. Edge to edge, the measurement was 16 inches, not 15. Now I...

    Replacing trailer tires

Thanks for all the suggestions. After learning more about tires than I knew possible, I've decided to go with round ones, preferably filled with air, with side protection provided by AAA and BoatUS TrailerAssist :D I also read a years old, mile long thread on the topic on The Hull Truth where...

    Replacing trailer tires

You raise an excellent point Jack. The fact is I have had ZERO problems with this trailer and the tires. Why would I switch to something different? I've had no end of problems with other trailers, tires, vehicles, boats, etc. That makes my decision much easier. I will search for the originals!

    Truck for towing 22 Cruiser

Thanks. Your direct experience with the frontier is helpful. Do you find the big truck any more of a hassle as an everyday vehicle compared to the Frontier?

    Truck for towing 22 Cruiser

I plan to do a bit of trailering in the next 12 months with the potential for some fairly long trips. My current tow vehicle is a4WD crew cab long bed Nissan Frontier with a tow capacity of 6500 pounds. This is my second Frontier (the first was flooded in hurricane Sandy) and it's a great...

    Replacing trailer tires

My apologies for not changing my profile for six years! My boat is a 22 cruiser. I sold the 16 shortly after I purchased the 22. The trailer is a single axle.

    Replacing trailer tires

Should I order bias or radial tires? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each? Thanks

    Replacing trailer tires

Thanks - that's helpful. The tire also has lettering saying Load Range D. Knowing that the "D" is for diagonal will help me not look stupid at least once! (I need a lot of help)

    Replacing trailer tires

At everyone's suggestion, I am replacing my 10 year old but low mileage trailer tires before heading off on new misadventures. The tires have ST 225/75 D 15 written on the side so I assume I can just replace them with the same, perhaps going up to load range E as some have suggested. My...

Simple trailer jack and spare tire storage

I've never seen a tire bracket like that one. I can see how that could help with clearances. I found the winch post too large for any standard bolts available at a number of hardware and marine stores. I ended up using straight bolts and plate things. I think some vibration in the setup may...

    Outer Banks

As a freshwater sailor, I've been spared the hassles and opportunities of tides. Drying out may very well be a good option at some of the places I'm thinking of going. I'll check with some of the local sailors.

    Outer Banks

I plan to explore the Outer Banks in the next few months. I've lived in the Raleigh area for nine years and have barely seen the area outside of New Bern/Oriental. I would appreciate any suggestions for 5-10 day itinerary. I will probably stay in marinas a couple of nights but would also like...

Simple trailer jack and spare tire storage

As I need to replace my trailer tires, I guess I'm going to need a jack. I suppose if I plan to hit the road for any exploring I should have a decent jack in the truck for roadside misadventures anyway. I thought I could just use my truck's scissor jack but I think it is designed to hook into a...
