What to see in the Florida Keys January 2020

In 1981 We were living in Key West and my wife was working at a hotel there during an unusually cold winter (the orange crop froze in South Florida). She had to keep replying to the guests that the rooms did not have heaters because "they didn't need them"! After work we would huddle at Captain...

What to see in the Florida Keys January 2020

Lots of great places to eat in Key West, I'll list a few you might miss: Breakfast at Pepe's on Caroline Street. Creme cheese and scallion omelets are killer. Rooftop Cafe on Duval for lunch. Shrimp salad and Bloody Mary's highly recommended. Hogfish Bar and Grill on Stock Island, more...

SOLD - C-Dory 2004 25 Cruiser for sale, new listing soon.

Does your Panga have trim tabs? I find these essential for getting a good ride out of my C-Dory in any sort of chop and they worked very well once I got the hang of using them. On the often choppy river we preferred to travel from the mid-teens to low twenties and with proper trim could almost...

SOLD - C-Dory 2004 25 Cruiser for sale, new listing soon.

Jeff, that is my 25 but I've never used the boat in Florida. All of my boating with it has been on the Cumberland River in Nashville. We get hot in Nashville but I have lived in Key West and do understand the difference in sun intensity. So I will leave it to the Floridians to tell you about...

    How to park you boat.

Wow, that video shows the yacht* was not just idling, it was accelerating. Lucky nobody was killed by that monster. *I know that there is sometimes discussions over just what is a "boat" and what is a "yacht. THAT was a YACHT!

SOLD - C-Dory 2004 25 Cruiser for sale, new listing soon.

I'm letting Marc at Wefing's in Eastpoint Florida handle the sale, he will have the listing up soon. 150 Yamaha, full custom camper back, etc. We enjoyed her but it's time to make other plans. I have three photos in my profile, third one shows the camperback set up but not yet buttoned down...

    Ranger Tug R-25

Jason posted---"That would be cool if you could buy a small displacement style hull these days---" That original R-21 seems like a good candidate for an electric inboard as it was very efficient.

    Ranger Tug R-25

Interesting to compare specs of R-23 with new R-25. LOA motor down, R-23 is 28', 5" while R-25 is 28' even. With motor up LOA, R-23 is 29' 8" and R-25 is 29' 6". While hull length on R-23 is 22' 8" and R-25 27' 5", which is 5" longer than the listed hull length of the R-27! I believe that...

A cautionary tale, overboard and boarding ladder.

Oh Bob, so sorry, and I'll bet that Marie was scared to death. Hope that you are not too sore tomorrow but best plan on taking it easy. Best wishes.

    New Boat!

Congrats, Jeff, and welcome. By the way, which Airstream were you two able to full-time in? I would also be interested in any observations you may have about that, too.

    Motor configuration questions

Your under ten knots will likely be done at about half of that. Above that you will either be on plane in the low teens or plowing a huge wake around 10mph. The 9.9 will be plenty to push a 22 at slow speeds but I do think that you will prefer cruising with your main engine. I would recommend...

    "It's too hot to live"

About body temperature, while we are indeed 98.6 on the inside we are closer to 86 at the skin, and being immersed in any water cooler than that will have some cooling effect on the body.

    Seapiper 35

Well I see that they addressed that issue! It was a common comment on forums discussing that design.

    Seapiper 35

Trying to maximize fuel economy tends toward a roll-y boat. I saw the small Seakeeper demo at a boat show, pretty impressive technology, and for some, now affordable. I would have to have a roof between pilothouse and forward cabin, where the only head is located.

New Cutwater DC and Walkaround models

Thanks for your comments, Bob. I'm not a candidate for a $100K day boat at this point, but I find boat design and marketing interesting and I thought that it was getting too quiet around here! I do think that Fluid has done a good job of exploiting that one hull to get several versions out of it.

New Cutwater DC and Walkaround models

Did you check out the link Bob? These are not really fishing boats and not too far from their RT/CW customer base. The Walkaround has a mini-cabin with day head and the bow is full of loungers. They have a built in grill and with that big hardtop this is more in the picnic cruiser class. I...

New Cutwater DC and Walkaround models

http://www.cutwaterboats.com/models.asp ... t%2fModels This makes me wonder how a C-Dory would work as a day boat, in either configuration. Perhaps on a Venture hull?
