    Speakers for in cabin

Wayne, if I still had the template, it probably wouldn't do you much good. There's just too much variation from boat to boat. It's easy to make your own. I started with cardboard scribed to the roof-line, then refined it in 1/4" plywood. This was then transferred to 3/4" plywood, the door cut...

    The Transportation Worker Identification Credential

This was the response I got from the guy who owns the dive boat that I crew on. I'm inclined to believe his conclusions to his research, but please let me know if they're flawed. "Captains - at this time - I've already contacted the TW sites, DHS, the USCG etc. We as charterboat operators are...

    Speakers for in cabin

Crutchfield lists component speaker systems from $80 to $850. The Infinitys cost $200 and I think they're worth it if you really care about hi-fi. The head-end seems to be less important. Any of the $150-$200 units will sound great with great speakers. The problem with mine is the...

    Speakers for in cabin

Another way to get a really clean high-end is to go with one of the component speaker systems from Crutchfield. These are the Infinity units. These systems separate the the tweeters from the midrange/woofers so that you can mount them at ear level. The woofers are mounted flush in the lower...

    Marine Grade 12 Gauge

Yes, they are handguns and have rifled barrels. But back to the original question. I played with the Remington, Winchester, and Mossberg marine models side by side at a gun shop. The Remington 870 just looks and feels better made to me. I grew up shooting 870's and they are so familiar and...

    "Maintainer" Battery Chargers

The factory installed Guest charger and other "smart" chargers, like the portable Battery Tender from Deltran, are 3-stage chargers. That is, they offer bulk, absorbtion, and float stages of charging. In the float stage, the voltage, as well as the amperage, tapers off to a level that can be...

    A very SH***Y aspect of owning a C-D 25

I just wanted to add that the Loctite 3030 polyolefin bonder worked like a charm when the inlet fitting broke off my holding tank. I also glued up some scrap plastic just to test the stuff, and found the glue as strong as the parent material.

Shrink wrap vs canvas cover for storing cd25 for the winter

I've been using one of the pipe-framed "instant garages" for my winter boat storage. The tarp material was guaranteed for 3 years, but is going on 11, probably because it's in the shade. It's only now starting to show some pin-holes. These make it real easy to work on the inside or outside any...

    Interesting Aside?

Alasgun- Would you mind explaining that picture of the "dog team"? It appears to be of skinned dogs.

    Thru hull bonding advice?

This is worthy of a whole book, but I'll try to touch on a few points. Galvanic corrosion is a DC problem of dissimilar metals in contact with one another, either directly or through an electrolyte. The galvanic isolator on your boat will block DC currents, up to only about one volt, so that...

    BEP twin engine voltage-sensing relays

I posted this once before, but I think it's worth repeating. The BEP emergency parallel switch connects the two batteries. I defy anyone to tell me why you would want to connect a good battery to a dead battery in an emergency situation. The emergency parallel switch in Blue Sea ACR setup...

    Cable Boot

    I just ordered one from Outdoor Superstore. $9.25 plus s&h = $16.

    Factory cabinet materials?

I agree that the painted birch plywood works well for the cabinet sides, shelves, and other low traffic areas. Even the decraguard doesn't hold up well in normal use for the tops. For those, I used Formica, antique white 932-58 It's a good color match and is easy to work with.

    Happy Pictures On C-Dory Boats

Sad moments always make us reflect on better times. This pic was taken last Feb in Florida while South attending Nanci's grandmother's 100th birthday party. Granny passed on two months later.

    Window Covers

We went for the "homey" look and did curtains. Snap tape and carriers are Recmar from West Marine. I made the track from plastic lumber.

    06/08 - 06/10 - Chesapeake Bay 2007

Count us (me & Nanci & dog) in for this years gathering. We weren't to make it last year, but had a great time in '04. I've had about enough of winter and trip planning sure helps to pass the time till liquid water shows again.

Rubber Boot (Engine Well) Replacement 16' Cruiser

I'm also looking for a replacement. The Chinese rubber was cracked when new, and now it's really looking shabby. Re-rigging the boat just to replace the boot is out of the question. What I was thinking was to get a replacement boot for an automotive front wheel drive constant velocity joint...

    New to the forum

Keith, the 3/4 ton truck is plenty. I've towed mine all over the East coast with a 1/2 ton Suburban. As for the sleeping arrangments, I'm 6'4" and sleep across the beam, feet to port, and head behind the helm. The first mate is 5'4", so she fits forward OK. The only problem with this is that...
