    Mola Mola (ocean sunfish)

They sure are a strange fish. I don't know what it is but sometimes they are in thick between San Diego and the Coronado Islands. I've been on trips where you see 10 in a day. I can only imagine what would happen if you hit one. Jeff glad to hear to finally made it out to Catalina. Bill

    Raymarine S1000 installation on a C-Dory 22

I've read on thehulltruth.com that people have wrapped the pump in foam to reduce the noise output. It seams to work well without causing any problems. Bill

    Where can I get decraguard?

Hi all, I'm starting a project on my boat and would like to use decraguard to match the interior of the boat. I used the search function and found a lot of discussion about different sources but nothing definitive. I live in Southern California and need about a 2'x2' piece of 1/2". Thanks in...

    LED Dome Lights

Hi all, about a year ago I set out to replace the high draw low light output cabin lights on my boat. I tried several led lights sold at West Marine and Boaters World, including a SeaSense 18 led light and the Sesibulb led replacement that Valkyrie spoke of. To say the least I was not happy...

    Catalina this week-end?

The limit is 7 per person per day. If you are going out for multiple days you can get a multi-day permit that lets you get up to 3 limits per person. Minimum size is 3.25", measured from the eyes to the back of the shell. Things change a little next year with lobster cards. Possible more...

    Catalina this week-end?

Not a bad idea. Maybe an anchor BBQ at Catalina. I'm going to try and meet up with Jeff at Catalina in a couple of weeks. Maybe we can enjoy some lobster, beer and stories then. Bill

    Catalina this week-end?

It's a terrible problem to have :D . We did just what you said, clean, devein and then freeze. Of course we ate a couple fresh. I went back on wed. and thurs. with a different friend and we got another 28 legals. Now my freezer is really packed and I'm trying to get one more trip in before...

    Twins vs Single

Main and kicker is the only way to go. More fuel efficient at trolling and if you hit something submerged you still have your kicker to get you home. With twins you stand the chance of loosing both lower units and waiting for a tow (if available). Bill

    Catalina this week-end?

My friend and I had a great time at Catalina. The weather was great and the bugs were crawling. With a multi-day permit we managed 27 bugs (I counted wrong and thought we had 28) for a total weight of 56 pounds. After not doing very well for most of the season it was a very welcomed change of...

Venture 23 data published on C-dory website

Granath, did you get a chance to test the Insinkerator as a flow thru? I'm going to install a cockpit shower and would like to be able to warm up the water to a pleasant temp running off my inverter. Thanks, Bill

    Catalina this week-end?

Hi Jeff, I'll be at the Isthmus hooping Saturday night and doing a little fishing in that area in the morning. If I see you I'll stop and say hi. Or you can get me on 72. I go by Best Day. Good luck Bill

    Wood Cabinets on 22 Cruisers

The Tom Cat I saw at the LA boat show had a molded interior in it, which I don't really mind. What I didn't like was the poor design of the molded interior. They lengthened the dinette (for no good reason that I could think of) and shortened the storage area behind it (what do you always need...

Fuel Numbers For Hull Similar To A Venture 26

Nice to hear that you are using your boat Forrest. Those are very impressive numbers on a very fully loaded boat. I'm not very familiar with the Honda Electronic gauges. Do you have to calibrate them? Do they use a flow thru type sending unit or are the numbers coming from the fuel injection...

New Cabin Cruiser from Seaway Boats

In the March/April issue of Power Cruising Magazine there is a great article on different cabin cruisers. Listed in it is a new 25 footer from Seaway Boats. A very interesting looking boat with some nice qualities including a transom door, shoal keel, Armstrong bracket, fuel efficient, 37...

    Anchor tests

Thanks for the advice guys. I do pull the anchor without the help of a windlass so I am very aware of the weight. I never thought I would want a windlass but with my priority being a good secure anchor I may soon buy one. I had problems with my Boaters World Hooker anchor letting go at the...

    Anchor tests

Thanks for the feedback guys. I spoke with the West Coast rep for Delta Anchors and he was very helpful. I described my boat to him and asked if I should use a 14 pound Delta with 30 feet of chain or a 22 pound Delta with 17 feet of chain (I need to keep the weight reasonable since I'm...

    Anchor tests

Hi Bob, thanks for the great info. I noticed you tested a 22 pound Delta and that Dora Jean uses the same anchor. I was wondering what size anchor you would recommend for a 23 Venture. I see Delta recommends the 14 pound anchor for 21-31 foot boats. That is the size I was planning on using...
