I learned a bit about wind today

Seems I start out each new year bumping into my slip neighbors, literally. This year, I didn't adjust our spring line lengths for a different harbor. Approach was ok, but boat kept going rather than snuggling up to the dock. Spring line didn't pull us in, & took too long to reverse...

    Now Here's a deal

We bought an "orphaned" 2009 25' Cruiser. No regrets whatsoever. Dealer that sold it to us has been excellent to work with on service & maintenance. We have over 150 hours underway logged so far.

    Raymarine frustration

I had a C90W installed when I bought our boat. It had some issues, but a firmware upgrade fixed all of them. Before applying the firmware upgrade, display would disconnect/drop/lose data from the radar & sounder. I usually had to restart the display to get things working properly. There's...

    Pain free insulation solution

I ordered a gallon of Silent Running @ $120/gal from a local reseller. Shipping to Juneau, AK ended up costing more for Mascoat & HyTeck products. Silent Running (sr1000) can be applied by brush, roller or airless sprayer. Specs look impressive & it is Coast Guard approved for insulating and...

Getting into your boat out of the Dinghy??

I've only tried climbing in & out of our WestMarine RU-260 dinghy once. Secured to the side was easiest. Launching the dinghy from the roof was easy. Getting the dinghy back aboard was nearly impossible. Any good tips how to recover a dinghy & put it back on the roof?

Has anyone installed a permanent fuel tank in a CD 16?

tparrent, I bought my 16' Cruiser "Cachita" with a 15 gallon permanently installed fuel tank and a 3 gallon portable. Stern was heavy, but not a real issue for balance. Most everything else could be stored forward to counter the stern weight. Passengers had to be a bit careful on moving...

    Purchase of C-Dory 25

megandave, Just for your consideration. We have two seasons under our belt with our CD25. We run with a Honda BF150 main & 9.9 kicker. While there's a lot to be said for twins, we've never had a problem with the mains on either our 16' or 25' Cruisers. If electrics go down, the kicker can...

Too much boat for my skills

Amanda, Helen & I were absolute newbies when we moved up to our 25' Cruiser. We bumped into some very nice friendly folks at the docks before we got some expert, hands-on training to navigate in tight quarters. We offered our boat as a Coast Guard Auxiliary facility and that has made a world...

    Recommended power 16 Cruiser

twin 30s may be "cool", but the stern weight should not be ignored. A single 50 with a small kicker served us well enough on "Cachita". Even a paddle works for short distances ;) Given the load, balance & range issues with the 16' Cruiser, I would recommend keeping it simple.

    NOW I get it...

Who took the pictures? Were they taking photos from another C-Dory? Just curious.

    Lowrance radar and other questions

You'll probably get a lot of different answers on this. Individual preferences abound. I like the simplicity of the Furuno 1623 radar. You might want to check out the KVH autocomp 1000 heading sensor. It can be tied in via NMEA to the Furuno display. You can also hook up a separate GPS...

    Twin 20"s on a CD-16?

On our 16' Cruiser "Cachita", we had a Suzuki 50hp main and a 6hp kicker. I added the kicker and swim step. Never had to use the kicker. Size and location of engine(s), fuel tank(s) & swim step need to be considered for weight & balance. Fully equipped, the transom our boat was heavily...
