    Opinion on Simpson/Lawence Sprint 600

I'm pretty sure the Freedom 500 can have its clutch released at the windlass for freefall. If you are interested, I'll find the manual. I haven't pulled the boat out since I got the windlass, so aside from making sure it basically works, I haven't started on this project. Mike

    C-dory help in purchasing.

Depends a lot on where you cruise. Reportedly, the largest dealer of C-Dory's on the Chesapeake will not even rig a CD-22 with twins. Twins would be cool, and I would prefer a used boat with twins over one with a single. But, obviously not enough to wait for one with twins. Which, given the...

Rosborough vs. C-Dorys and Ranger Tugs?

I took a ride on an RF-246 with a Honda 225 on a bracket. It had a fuel flow meter. At perhaps 20mph, it used an amazing amount of fuel... 20gph, I believe. Either a Honda 225 shouldn't be put on an RF-246 or something else was wrong with that setup. I am under the impression that a 150hp...

    Manually operated bilge pump?

After a very sad friend woke me one morning with a bildge full of water, and no one on the entire raftup had a manual pump, I bought one of the tube type with a long hose. I have the little bildge area in the dinette, and I can put the tube down into the area, and have someone hold the hose...

Batteries - Cranking vs. Deep Cycle

A charger with a temp sensor shouldn't boil the water out. But, since I only have cranking batteries at the moment because that is what the boat came with, I can't prove that. Mike

    Trailer For 22 crusier

We have the single tube PVC side guides. I would prefer the larger guides as pictured in this thread. I have had to recenter after getting the boat on the trailer just slightly off center. The reason is that if you have a bunk trailer, you want the boat as low as possible on the trailer...

    Trailer For 22 crusier

For the upper Chesapeake, a galvanized trailer will be fine. Single axle if you are not towing far, else double axle. We use surge brakes. We paid about $2,000 for a single axle Ez-loader with disk brakes and bunks. Mike

    Boatyard charges

A friend tried to change the oil in his outdrive. Sadly, he poured it in from the top instead of pumping it in from the bottom. Result: destroyed drive. My point is read the manual... Mike

    25 FT C-DORY - $75000

Lots of people try to beat the tax in MD. I have no sympathy for them when they get caught. But, the people I'm referring to are MD residents that use their boats primary in Maryland waters but register them in Delaware. Delaware finally got smart and started charging 2.5% tax. There are...

    Carb cleaning advice?

Definitely drain the float bowls first. Mine had a bunch of stuff in them that I avoided running into the carb bodies. Mike

    GPS/handheld VHF suggestions?

A GPS will tell you your lat and long. It will usually have a way to display waypoints that you enter. Perfectly fine if you have paper charts or a chartbook to look at too. A chartplotter will display a map and mark showing where you are on that map. The choices for where you get those maps...

    Photo Album Quandry

There can be data associated with a photo...shuttter speed, orientation of the camera when the photo was taken, etc. At least in some cases, I found I needed to delete that info from pictures I uploaded. I forget what the term for this data is, but I'm someone reading this will know. Mike

    Bennett Trim Tab Installation

Ain't that the truth. The other thing I've found is that milage increases with the tabs down. Always a plus when a more comfortable ride is efficient as well. Mike

Malibu - hits the rocks in 2000

If they were using an autopilot and set a waypoint that went over the rocks, that would do it. Mike

    25 FT C-DORY - $75000

Depends on what you want. I've put at least $2,000 into our boat, not counting the trailer, plus the windlass (not installed yet), which is probably going run 750. Add in a camper canvas which is worth somewhere between $2-4K, and it is easy to end up with a pricey boat. As best I can tell...

    rubrail

My rivets are pulling out on one side. I was thinking of through-bolting the rail back on. No hull-deck issues. Thoughts? I am not particularly worried. Hopefully the rail will stay largely attached so I can deal with this in the winter. Mike

    C-Dory Quality Control

A lot of what Pascoe talks about is the compression that large, heavy hulls take when slamming the water. Apparently the core can be crushed. This doesn't seem to apply as much to a 22' C-Dory. I've never bothered to look up the layout of the failed Sea Rays, but I wonder if the balsa is as...

    Salt

There was some odd corrosion on Shelly-IV, a salt water boat when purchased. 99% was cosmetic and removable with a little work. There was some rusting on the metal that connects the steering cable to the motor that is slightly more of a problem. I painted it; we'll see how well that holds...

    Charts

Do standard laptops take the pounding that can happen on a boat OK? Are harddrive crashes an issue? I've always been afraid to take a laptop out since I don't actually own the ones I use...they belong to work. Mike

    Bilge pump problems

Hmmm...wonder if I could notch the floor boards to pass a pickup hose from the center of the boat and run it through the small galley well and up to a diaphram pump. Joe: There is no pump at the sterm of my boat. So, I have two needs: dewatering and fairly heavy water removal. But, the...
