    08/21 - 08/23 - Bellingham, WA

Coincidentally, we'll be out cruising the San Juans during the week and possibly through the weekend, but if we're back in time (home base is Bellingham), we'll be there for part of it. It was a c-brat gathering in Bellingham a few years ago that first got me interested in the C-Dory.

Fitting the Standard Garhauer Davit for lifting a dinghy

Yes, I am very worried about drilling too far.

Fitting the Standard Garhauer Davit for lifting a dinghy

Bob, When your davit is mounted in the starboard aft position, how have you secured the base? Is it glued onto the floor or screwed into the floor? Johnr

One bolt is leaking. Advice sought.

OP here. So, I took off the entire rail today. Of the 12 bolts holding the four rail posts to the deck, two were leaking, one was significant with some very wet balsa core. I'm reaming it out now to see how extensive. I have a question about the camfer cut at the top. What is the purpose of...

    Bulkhead removal

In my c-dory (1982, 22) there is no port bulkhead and I don't think that there ever was one. In fact, to sit at the port side table, the person at the forward position (back facing the bow) is sitting on the end of v-berth bed.

One bolt is leaking. Advice sought.

My boat is so old that it doesn't rot anymore, the core has fossilized.

One bolt is leaking. Advice sought.

Thanks for all of the great advice. I'm not so worried that it would be a "big job" to take off the entire rail. I can do that. I was more thinking about the advisability of messing with bolts that aren't leaking. I'm reticent to fix something that's apparently not broken or leaking. Upon...

One bolt is leaking. Advice sought.

One of the bolts that fastens my bow rail to the deck has develop a small leak. During very heavy and prolonged rains, it leaks through to the v-berth below. This is not a deluge, but a few drops. How should I go about fixing this? My gut reaction is take the bow rail off completely, inspect...

    Siriusxm weather radar

For the PNW cruisers, most of you are probably aware of this site already, but if not, it's great for the smartphone or tablet…and free. http://www.atmos.washington.edu/weather/radar.shtml

Questions about '82 22ft CDory with transom-area damage

One nice thing about the 82 is that it's a very, very simple boat to work on, even for c-dory's, which are already known for being basic, simple boats to work on. It's really just a shell. As far as I know, there are no internal gas tanks, no plumbing, no anchor locker, no wires that are...

Would you consider a penthouse suite for your C-Dory

I wouldn't try it myself. I was up on the cabin roof this summer doing a little bright work and a medium sized boat wake came by. Man, I tell you, it really rocks up there. A lot. I could't imagine sleeping up there if the boat was in the water.

They were peeing when they fell in? Hmmm, I was told that these unfortunate guys were trolling for mermaids.

    Reviving Bellingham CBGT in 2015

It was a c-dory gathering in Bellingham some years ago that inspired me to buy one.

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Took advantage of the bonus crab season and the anomolous (and spectacular) November weather to go crabbing. We caught six nice dungeness during the afternoon high slack. Very nice indeed.

Having trouble matching performance of others

Although this group is far, far better than most, I think that it's a natural tendency for folks to post "optimistically" to forums. I never can sell an item for as much as others claim to have sold their similar item for. I never seem to be able to buy a car for the great price that others...

    What would you do?

Thanks for all the good and thoughtful advice. I sold the Honda Element today and bought a 4 door, V6, long bed, Toyota Tacoma with a tow package (used, late model, low mile). It's a beast. I still have the old Chevy (head gasket not fixed), I need to figure out what to do with it.

    What would you do?

Thanks for the compliment about the restoration, but it's not restored. It's just still nice. If you saw it up close, you'd see that it's not restored! Still thinking about it, but I'm leaning towards a new-ish vehicle.

    What would you do?

Noticed your chevy tag line. I'm also looking strongly at the V6 Chevy Colorado. Any thoughts about that vehicle?

    What would you do?

Ha! A new Tacoma is precisely the truck I was thinking of getting.

    What would you do?

Do I know you? I think you may be confusing me with another johnr who lives in Bellingham and has an Element and an old beater truck and a c-dory named the Surf Scoter. There are quite a few of us.
