Well, until about two weeks ago, I didn't have a "newer fuel injected" outboard on my boat. But, anyway, it doesn't take much to get the bill up to $1000 around here and it's not all outboard work anyway, at least for me. There always seems to be something amiss with my non-hydraulic steering...

I do some stuff myself, but I take mine into my mechanic about every third year and it ends up costing me about $1000 for the variety of things that get done. Still not a bad deal in my book. I tell my wife that I'm taking the boat in for it's $1000 oil change.

I feel that you improperly quoted me there, cutting off the caveat. I can tell you right now that 12 year old kids going in and out of a cooler all day and night for food and drinks do not "properly manage" a cooler. It's a miracle if they close it on occasion.

Perhaps the boat was kept, for some period of time, in a place where there was no access to marina gas and portable/removably gas tanks were required.

The only thing I've found that reliably works for more than four days is to have two coolers. One with ice and food and drink that me and the kids get into multiple times a day, and one with just ice that we open only when we need some ice to re-supply the food and drink cooler. Of course...

Having spent my formative year in coastal Louisiana, I know many Cajuns who would scoff at putting a motor that small on a boat that big.

It's definitely not underpowered as far as I'm concerned. It's a bit quicker, in fact, than my C-Dory 22 with a 90. That it was underpowered was certainly a concern when I was considering he purchase of the boat. But, within minutes, the sea trial let me know that I had nothing to worry...

If you're at a Marina, make sure that your connection at the dock is turned on. Usually, it's not enough to just plug it into the Marina's outlet, you have to also switch it on (at the dock, not on your boat). I know this sounds obvious, but it's exactly how I solved the exact problem because...

Five years is probably pushing it for bottom paint. I re-apply every two years. I'm glad everything came off easily.

Very good. I currently have a 22' 1982 C-dory. If you've never been in one that old, it's really nothing but a hull + top. There is no plumbing of any kind, no sink, no shore power, no gas tanks, no water tanks, no anchor locker, no self-bailing cockpit, no trim tabs, no power windshield...
