outfitting a new 25 cruiser - help please!

I have a 1500w inverter in our 22 footer and a 1k inverter in the 27 foot trawler. I also have a Honda 2k genny, which now sits in my dockbox. I much prefer the inverter. It's instant....efficient....quiet....and doesn't require fuel or shelter. If you go with a genny, you may want to...

    Cheap heat

I found that I didn't need to replace them...yet. As they've been discharged and charged, the capacity has seemed increase. Also adding the group 27 battery to the bank has helped too. I did check all wires and nothing gets warm, even when running the heat at 800 watts or microwave. -Greg

    Cheap heat

It worked. :) The last month, I've had a 1500w inverter installed, juiced with two golf carts and one ordinary deep cycle battery, for the purpose of running a laptop, microwave, and 400/800w quartz infared heater. Took it on a nice run today and it worked beautifully. Cabin was 49 degrees...

Wow. That's a good price. I had no idea C-Dory made one that large. What's the story on that model? -Greg

    Is AIS in the house?

That's a beautiful vessel. Is it in the Lake Washington canal? We passed a few with those striking colors today. -Greg

    Any scary moments this year?

Today in fact. We had SCA going in Puget Sound....4 footers with 18-24 mph winds at West Point. On our Devlin, we made the 6 mile trip from Shilhole to Bell Harbor. Had to tack much of the way. Seas abeam are disconcerting but I'm learning what this boat can do. It's most capable but I...

    Is AIS in the house?

During our passage from Poulsbo to Seattle, I used this site to locate and identify the ships, in particular the ferrys. Very accurate. Good tool to use. -Greg

    Reliability of WALLAS 85DU/270

Warren, It has excellent reviews,so that was a factor. Also, it has no fan, nor needs one, and that was appealing, especially for sleeping at night. Finally, it radiates heat at low wattage. Most ceramic heaters, including the WM one we have, require 1200 to 1500 watts. That's quite a load...

    Seaside Restaurants

    1. Chinooks at Fishermen's Terminal in Seattle. Just ate there an hour ago. <burp> 2. McCormick and Schmidts on the Portland Waterfront. Happy hour menu feature entree's from from $2-4 and they are serious meals. Booze/beer is optional. 3. Oyster Bar in Olympia. 4. LaConner Brewery in...

    Reliability of WALLAS 85DU/270

May I take the liberty of suggesting another alternative, especially since we're from the Portland area and winterboat exensively. For each boat, we bought two Optimus 400W Quartz heaters through Amazon for $30. It easily heats up the 22 footer and the trawler cabin in my Devlin. With the 22...

    Generic Posting on this Forum!

Dang funny. I'm in a quandry what to refer to Mike and Bill as. "Dear Leaders." "Scoobies and the Doo Doo's," (we being the Doo Doos of course). "Peter and Paul?" Regardless, they do a great job. -Greg

    Salvage Rights

That's precisely the reason. Another strange order has come down from some muckey-muck. We cannot operate in waters below 50 degrees without very expensive, cold water wear that the CG cannot afford to issue. Prior to this order, we could wear CG issued Mustangs or dry suits, which are...

    Salvage Rights

It is absurd. The Coast Guard Auxiliarists routinely practice towing evolutions but it's rare we get to apply the skills. I spent $500 on special lines just to have Fear Naut able to tow. Authorization to tow is tricky. We're taught to ask right away if there is danger to the occupants and...

    Salvage Rights

I've heard the same thing in my CGA meetings. The outfit in question is SeaTow and I've actually talked to the captain who did this. He says salvage is a form of a lien, like a contractor would put on a house, in order to secure payment for services rendered. That's his side. It seems the...

    Public Apology

The moderators have made it quite clear that non-owners are welcomed here. Roger's choice of words, "family of owners," seems to conflict with that. Does he not accept their ruling? Chris has been a boater since a teenager, having been raised on Lake Washington. He's an expert fisherman, a...

    Let's help a good friend

My wife and I met Les last Spring to look at Rossi's. He knew we were not in a position to buy yet we spent hours with him talking boats and even the bus he's converting into an RV. First class act. I wish he didn't live 5 hours from me. If you have a chance, visit his web site. It contains...

C-dory 22 featured picture on cover

Do you have any links to that article? (BTW....I am now "crewed" and the FSO-Secy. My wife will be FSO-Communications. We're attending the BS&S class along with my 16 yr. old son. It's one of his prerequisites toward operating the ski boat with his pals. Joining the CGA was one of the...

C-dory 22 featured picture on cover

Thanks for the link. That is a great picture of the C-Dory 22. Last June, I turned away from the Columbia Bar due to waves half that size. Big coward I is. There's an article about three Devlins cruising The Inland Passage. One of them is a 29 foot Black Crown, just two expensive feet...
