Engine needs to make 6000 RPM at WOT. I would go down a inch or two in pitch. Does the oil smell like GAS? Impossible to "make oil" either water(you ruled out) or GAS! If not FP reg. then stuck float/needle in H/P fuel pump tank.

I have had a DF-175 on my boat since 2012 2700 hrs. zero issues Will buy Suzuki net go around! Up to 5 mpg at 7 knots @ 3000 rpm. 19x15.5 prop 6200 rpm on FLATTTTT water 31 kts. Av 2 Kmpg at 20 knots & 4900 rpm

Acetone works great, lots of ventilation and respirator with voc cartridges. Pretty confined space in there!

The mfg. service manual tells when scheduled maint. should be performed. Too tight doesn't allow the valve face to rest on the seat long enough for cooling, resulting in Burnt valves. too loose makes excessive noise, WAY too loose can spit out the shim. :thup :thup :wink: Three thousand hrs...

32 degreeze F. or below, I leave the lower unit in the water, it sits in the homer harbor 10 - 11 months a year. YMMV! :thup :thup

Look in the owners manual? Yes you can add trim/tilt oil to your motor. The pump is bolted to the trim/tilt assy. Google?

I always use TFE thread paste on my Bronze 1/2 mpt drain plug never any issues! :thup :thup :thup

If one's time and wallet will allow it re-engineering it using better materials is the way to go. Or put seastar hyd. steering on it & be done with it. :wink: :thup
