    A couple crabs

WOW! Good job. You really have to work in Grays Harbor or Willapa Bay to get your limit of 6 crabs. All the crabs must be down at the Columbia this year. The commercial crabbers up north really hit the crabs hard during the summer off Westport and Tokland. Not much left up here before the state...

Tollycraft 34 vs CC 26 - worth it to make the wife happy

My buddy had a 27? foot Tolly. It was great when it was tied up to the dock. He couldn't afford to motor anywhere because of the fuel consumption. It was very expensive to run so he sold it. Be prepared to pay a lot more to operate it and also be aware that you most likely will have to pay for...

Improving Trim By Moving The Batteries

Batteries weigh around 40 pounds each. Why don't you get 160 pound friend to sit where on the spot you want to move the batteries to and see if the difference in ride is worth the trouble. I doubt you will tell a difference. You could also remove 13 gallons of fuel (approx. 80 pounds), have an...

    Gotta Sell - Need Advice

Whatever you put into the boat buying a new motor, you won't get out when you sell. Same with bottom paint.

    Introduction... Hello one, hello all!

When I was deciding between a 23 and 26, my daughter would grab my face and say, "Dad look me in the eyes, get the one with the bathroom". If I looked away she would say it again. Now that I'm seventy I'm sure glad she talked me into the 26.

I have a 15 HP Honda kicker on a CC26 and maximum speed is 7.5 mph in flat water.

Nav aid for the Columbia River

The Garmin Echomap allows you to update your Navionics charts of a particular area and record it to a chip. I use it out in the ocean on rock knobs for structure. The charts offshore were based on a US Navy survey in the seventies and are in meters. That is the reason for the odd footage...

    Ice coolers

I have and Rtic and two Yeti. They keep ice in them over twice as long as a regular cooler. Bought the Rtic first and found out it was made in China and not Texas. Bought the two Yeti after finding out they were made in America. Buy American in you can. China doesn't have America's interest at...

Anyone ever look at a stabicraft 2500 ultracab xl

The one they had at the Seattle Boat Show a couple years back had terrible looking welds. I personally wouldn't have trusted that particular boat to hold together over time. I hope their welders figured out how to weld aluminum.

    Boating Alone

Great list Harvey! I like to explore new areas to bottom fish while boating alone. When you take someone fishing it seems like you always have to be 'on' and produce fish otherwise there is disappointment. When fishing alone you can try new techniques and new areas that you wouldn't try otherwise.

    Ocean going (Tuna) advice

I've never went offshore for tuna but have taken a few 30 mile trips for halibut. Sometimes I can't even keep up with the charters. I've arrived at the spot only to see the deep v's leaving with their limits. A couple of the trips were 3 hours of hell getting there, catch a couple of halies and...

    Venture 26 vs C-Dory 25 ride

The Cape Cruiser 26 will go through 1 foot chop in Puget Sound with ease at 20 knots. That said, the 26 struggles in the ocean with 1 foot chop on top of an ocean swell. Of course the height of the swell and whether or not your going with or against the swell makes a lot of difference. Going...

Water Under Aft Cockpit in 07 Venture

I have never had water in the cockpit but I did have some under the cabin floor. Turn out it was coming in from two sources. First was the improper sealing of the anchor locker. The second was from the Wallas exhaust port from side spray when going through choppy water. That was tough one to...

    Shower Drain Problem - 2007 Venture 26

If your boat is like mine, and it probably is, you have a single pole switch that runs the pump. No float switch. If the motor doesn't run you either have a blown fuse, bad switch, open wiring or a bad motor. If the motor runs and doesn't pump water there is a screen in front of the pump, that...

    vaccination

I don't know about that one Harvey. I'm a long time blood donor to the American Red Cross. They informed me back in December that I had covid antibodies in my last blood donation. I had zero symptoms and was not aware that I had covid. I got my first Moderna shot last weekend and was sick for...

What's Killing the Coho in Puget Sound?

Other reasons the salmon are declining: Alaska over fishes British Columbia, Puget Sound, Columbia River, Tillamook and Sacramento River fish. Juvenile Chinook salmon are netted along with Alaska ground fish. British Columbia hammers Columbia River fish in retaliation for Washington trawlers...
