    Triton now Northwest Marine Industries?

Carstan Leasing seems to be an entity owner/operated by Stan Palmer. Palmer's primary business looks to be construction and engineering (http://www.stanpalmerconstruction.com/). Notably, he also is involved with several boat companies through Palmer Marine. A quick look on Google indicates...

    Non-Ethanol fuel in Washington

We just did our May fuel price survey and the only marinas that have stopped carrying ethanol free gas (that previously told us they did have ethanol free fuel) are Blaine and Bellingham. Go to the Fine Edge Fuel Price Survey to see the full list (http://fineedge.com/fuelsurvey.html). A lot of...

moorage or marina walking distance to quest field seattle?

Elliott Bay Marina is further north than Bell Harbor but much larger. I suspect you could get space there. You'd probably want to take a bus or taxi to Century Link Field from there. Fishermen's Terminal is on the freshwater side of the locks, but is another option. Again, bus or taxi to...

moorage or marina walking distance to quest field seattle?

Bell Harbor is your best bet. It's a fantastic marina...clean, well run, great location. The walk to Century Link Field is probably about 1.5 miles, mostly right along the waterfront. If that's too far, you can always take a cab or bus.

    Mooring Buoys PNW

Most mooring buoys have instructions on how to pay right on the buoy. Typically in Washington you tie up to the buoy, dinghy to shore and drop the fee into a pay box. Then you bring back the "receipt" and post it in a window. Same process as tying up to a State Park dock, really. I've been at...

    help with anchorages

I work for Fine Edge. We publish the Dreamspeaker, Douglass, and Waggoner guides. They're all good and I recommend that you look through each before deciding which one to buy. To me the Dreamspeaker books are the nicest to look through. They're artistic yet accurate, with beautifully drawn...

Bill Barber of Lagoon Cove Passed Away

Quite a few C-Brats have cruised in the Broughtons and many have probably stopped at Lagoon Cove. Sadly, Bill Barber, who owned Lagoon Cove with his wife Jean, passed away last week. Bill was quite a story teller and welcomed visitors with free fresh prawns almost every evening. He'll be...

    Circumnavigating Vancouver Island

Thanks Marty. I'm looking forward to another fun summer! If anyone on here has tips, favorite towns/anchorages, or other info to share, I'd appreciate it.

Moving back to Washington - boat please?

I've spent a bunch of time recently on a late '70s vintage Tollycraft 30. It's a huge boat inside, but there's little cockpit space. The shower is a "wet head" and works well enough. I don't think there's a bigger 30 footer available. I know one with twin Hino 150 diesels and another with...

    Need for kicker?

With 860 hours on the Honda 90 on my C-Dory I've never needed the kicker. I've wrapped kelp around the cooling water intakes twice, which necessitated a brief shutdown each time, but the main engine was running again within 60 seconds. I couldn't have gotten the kicker running any faster...

Automated VHF radio check--Friday Harbor, WA

Steve told me about this service at the boat show and I've used it a few times since then. It works great, and is much more useful than an old fashioned radio check. I hope to check out Steve's lab at the Friday Harbor gathering in May...he's got lots of neat ideas!

    C-Dory Sightings

I spotted C-Change (CD25) on Lake Washington Sunday. I was hanging out on a friends dock on the N. end of Mercer Island (half a mile south of the East Channel Bridge) and C-Change cruised right by.

    outa juice?

I was in a Tesla Model S a few weeks back and it's one cool car! Expensive? Absolutely. Limited range? Sure. But it looks amazing, both inside and out, is shockingly fast (pun intended!), is comfortable, smooth, and quiet, and apparently handles quite well. It's really unlike any car I've...

Real world experience with a 6 hp kicker on a 22 cruiser

I have a Tohatsu 6hp kicker. It will power the boat up to 4-5 knots in calm conditions. Going into the wind or current it can be slow. Into 15-20 knots of wind speed is down to 3.5-4 knots. I've never actually needed the kicker, but I fire it up and test it out almost every time I use the boat.

    "E-15" Warning !!!

Ethanols biggest problem in my opinion is that it takes nearly as much energy to produce it as it contains. Some sources say it actually takes more energy to make a gallon of ethanol than that gallon of ethanol creates. Combined with the fact that ethanol is less energy dense than pure...

    Fun Yak Dinghies

Have you looked at the Portland Pudgy? Greg on Aurelia (CD25) had one and liked it as I recall. He also fabricated a clever system to get it on the roof of his boat. Search for Aurelia and look through the photo album for details. Brian on TC255 Seven Please (beflyguy) also uses a hard...

    Replacing anchor rode and chain

I did fit 300 feet of 1/2" 8-plait and 50 feet of 1/4" chain in the locker, but this required "rearranging" the rode a couple of times when pulling the anchor in. Otherwise, the windlass would "choke up" since there wasn't adequate free fall. Not a big deal, really, but a bit of a hassle...

    Replacing anchor rode and chain

I have a 15lb Manson Supreme with 50 feet of chain and it's wonderful. It sets amazingly quickly and holds well on 3:1 scope. In 50+ nights at anchor, I've yet to be disappointed, including some nights with winds above 30 knots. I tried to put a 22lb Delta on the boat, but it was too large...

    too cold

I'm in New York City for a few days and a couple inches of snow has fallen today. The Cascades have superb snow for skiing right now. And I was on the C-Dory at Sucia a week ago under blue skies and spring temperatures. Spring can't come quickly enough!

    07/26 - 07/28 - La Connor Gathering

Tom, I like the idea, but I'll probably be in Clayoquot Sound or Barkley Sound during this gathering. Spencer Spit has lots of space for anchoring and would be a good choice. Also plenty of space to gather ashore. Sucia would also be excellent, with tons of buoys, linear moorings, and some...
