    08/29 - 10/01 - Grand Slam Western Lakes 2015

Tied up at the floating dock at South Skull Creek in Flaming Gorge. Officially the prettiest anchorage we have been in. Love the trees against the red rock. The lake is a bit nippy but the air is warm. Loving our new Sea Eagle kayak. Mike from his unnamed C-22 aka "Little Joe" is here on...

6 boats at Yellowstone so far plus a couple kayaks and a Mokai. We expect one more boat today. Yellowstone is amazing. A bison just strolled by the marina. Sunny today, cool but not windy. So, now we're out touring the lake. We'll do group dinner at the lodge tonight.

Cooler: Rock Salt PLUS DRY ICE? Would it work even better?

Thanks for all the input! As a kid, we camped all the time and my folks always used dry ice... however, that was in the days of metal clad coolers (with Coca Cola logos). I suppose it could damage the cooler; which Rob is concerned about. I really don't like this cooler. It has not been as...

Cooler: Rock Salt PLUS DRY ICE? Would it work even better?

It sounds like many people are coming to Powell with portable freezers this year. We are going to "rough it" with our existing Norcold frig (and solar panels) and a cooler and the generator. We are going to try the rock salt and ice method of packing described by several people here (double...

    08/29 - 10/01 - Grand Slam Western Lakes 2015

We're so looking forward to this grand slam trip.. By ourselves or hopefully with other Brats. We do hope to meet up at Oak Canyon for our pot luck assuming the toxic spill is dissipated. So here is my question which primarily relates to Yellowstone.. What's to prevent bears and or raccoons...

    08/29 - 10/01 - Grand Slam Western Lakes 2015

Chris, I'm really sorry to hear you can't come to any of these planned events.. Your leadership over the years has been really appreciated. I hope your time frees up and you are able to boat at least a little this summer. You will be missed. We will attempt to do the grand slam on our I...

    DESSERT 1st, Northbound -> Erie Canal !

Rob made a little wooden stand for ours. I think there are pictures here but if you need more info I'll gwtget him to measure and describe. He didn't have to change the struts as Jenny Katz suggested. I think Cape cruisers may have different window frames from Ventures? We needed the wood...

Wind Scoop Ideas for bow hatch

Casey, did you find a windscoop or did you just go with the aircondiioner? We were thinking of buying this particular windscoop for Lake Powell because there is no room for the air conditioner. We will probably drag the generator along since our refrigerator on the 2013 trip to Powell last...

    Oven

I haven't tried baking in it yet but according to the crock pot recipe book, there are many "baked" treat recipes. I have a 12volt small crock pot signed for truckers but works great on board... And on a cold day especially.. The smell of home goofing while you are cruising is enough to make...

    09/04 - 09/07 - Mississippi River Gathering

Having a great time here, as we always do with fellow C-Brats. Got attacked by flying carp which was an experience I will never forget! So glad our schedule allowed us to catch so many C-Brats gatherings. Thanks to all of you who organize us!

    09/20 - Lake Powell 2014 Gathering

We really want to join this cruise... but won't be able to get to Powell until the 23rd or 24th. Do you think there is anyway to catch up with the group? Perhaps by launching somewhere else? I know phone service is minimal there so, unless someone has a SATphone, we wouldn't be able to call...

    East Coast Docking Techniques

Yes C-Cakes, the little fingers are very narrow and often rickety... and some are only about 3 ft long... We had a hard time getting in and out from the usual spot under our bimini as the finger didn't reach that far forward. We have one of those line hooker/looper things like Bob shows but it...

Any interest in the Hudson River or Erie Canal this summer

We think we'll be hitting NYC towards the end of July and then will cruise the Hudson and probably the Erie Canal. It would be great if others would join us. If you are interested, let us know! Mary and Rob McClain Freedom www.freedomonthegreatloop.blogspot.com
