    Slow cruise problems?

Enjoy the quiet beauty of slow cruising. Keep your heart chugging calmly along, relax the nervous system, feel the sun on your back, watch the soaring gulls, and let cares slip away. What difference does it make about fuel consumption or engine wear -- you can buy a new engine, but have you...

Casey&Mary to Alaska ... by land.

Bob - El and I have been watching the University of Waterloo videos of Prof. Park's story of the discovery of the Erebus, the John Franklin ship from the doomed NW Passage excursion. Wow! What a great summary of the exploration of the NW Passage. Thank you for mentioning his name...

Casey&Mary to Alaska ... by land.

Casey- We drove up the Dempster Highway years ago in our Alaska pop-up camper on a Ford F-250 -- a fine trip. Watch for the wildlife en route. We saw wolves at the den, musk oxen, and Arctic foxes. Many northern birds including Goshawks and Snowy Owls. We then took a small boat ride...

    Something new and different

Why not just read the tide tables and wind direction, and chug quietly along at 5 knots and not worry about buying a high priced air ride? Patience and prudence!

    River Horse ... Revisited???

El and I paddled a double kayak down the Upper Missouri through Montana down to "'navigable by small boat" section in South Dakota, and C-Dor-ied the lower stretch down to the Miss. The Upper Missouri is a fine kayak down- river run with portages, rapids and dams. Ridiculous with a C-Dory.

    Daydream's Great Loop Blog!

And Bob and Ken - If he turns off the blinking motor, he won't make any noise or use any stinky fuel - just a calm quiet drift along with the ducks, geese, and driftwood. Oh, and once in a while, a paddle stroke to avoid a check dam. Ah, now that's the retired life -- sipping a Snowqual...

Where to go if you had a month……….

Foggy and Boris are spot on -- north to the Great Lakes. Save the west until you have more time -- spend less time on the road now and more time in the cool beauty of the Great Lakes.

Tom -- What a beautiful t-shirt. So glad to see that the Gathering is so popular. The St. Johns is certainly one of the finest cruises in North America. Good on 'ya!

    Daydream's Great Loop Blog!

Pat and Patty - Have you been checking out the tributary rivers or canal routes off the Loop? We spent the afternoon with boating friends today who returned from a marvelous cruise on the Rideau last summer. They will be going back east next summer to cruise the Trent Severn. We...

    Snowy hell....

No snow here in Lakewood, Colorado now and 65 degrees. Our lakes here along the Front Range are ice free. Plenty of new storms on the Rockies above us so good skiing up there. So, a beautiful area, but weather is variable here along the front range due to chinook winds and --- no salt...

    Advice on a first boat

Agree, Dave. But, as you know, you don't need a huge boat to travel the US. In fact, the big boats the two-footitis guys buy, can restrict your ability to trailer and have access to travel America's waterways (many of them are shallow or have shallow coves which can give protection from storms...

    Daydream's Great Loop Blog!

Pat -- We just got a couple of aerial shots yesterday over our lake as a drone was buzzing our resident geese. Got it! The geese flew by overhead squawking their thank you, as the ex-drone sunk gurgling in the pond. :-)
