09/15 - Lake Powell September Cruise

I read in one of the Lake Powell links that you need to put barriers on your ropes going to shore to stop mice and rats? Is this normally a problem?

09/15 - Lake Powell September Cruise

George, We plan on doing the same thing. We will take the camper because we plan on going at least a week early and doing some of the Utah parks we have missed on other trips. Does anyone who has cruised Lake Powell in the fall have any input on bugs? Are any insects a problem?

    Barkley Sound fishing 2008

Andrew, I always ferry over to the island and tow to Ucluelet to launch. I prefer the comfort of my camper while on a fishing trip. If you are going to ferry the boat over, the most pleasant cruise would be to launch at Port Alberni and cruise down the inlet in protected water to Bamfield or...

    Barkley Sound fishing 2008

Chromer, I just returned from 4 weeks of fishing at Ucluelet and I thought the salmon fishing was a much slower that years past. Of course things can change very quickly as fresh fish move in and others move on to the south. The only comment I can make for sure is we saw a lot of the big...

    Just bought a C-Dory! Newbes!!

azygoes, Quite a coincidence-we are about 90% sure we will make the same trip next summer. We also will tow CAVU behind a truck camper and plan on spending 3 months in Alaska. I did the same trip with an RV 15 years ago, but I am really excited about having a boat this time. Lets keep in...

    08/07 - 08/17 - Neah Bay Gathering

Roger, I am here at Ucluelet and they now have WiFi. I have been following your trip. Sorry about the no-shows. If I didn't have reservations I would have been right there. The coho have been thick here for weeks. We picked up two hatchery coho today that were about 10 lbs. The kings have...

Fishing Trip West Coast Vancouver Island

nomadcruiser, Over the years I have dropped a few coins at Pioneer Boatworks-great place for tackle and any boat repair stuff you might need. Tim, I will shoot you a PM as soon as I get back. I hope to go to Lake Powell this year. It will take me a week to clean the boat and repack for...

Fishing Trip West Coast Vancouver Island

Dan, I hope you do come by. We heard the same story about the condos in 2006. Based on what they told me I made alternate plans for summer of 2007. Later I found out they delayed the condos and I missed my summer salmon trip. With the current economic conditions I wouldn't bet any money on...

Water intrusion from trim tab mounting?

Dougal, I could almost guarantee that your tabs were not installed with oversize epoxy plugs unless they were installed by an owner. There would be hours of labor involved and very high cost to to it that way. Careful installation and attention to good sealing with 4200 should give many years...

Fishing Trip West Coast Vancouver Island

Steve: Yes Lyndon will be with me and I will pass your greetings along. Island West Resort has never had WiFi in the past maybe I can find a stray signal and send a few pix. Chuck: Call in sick and come by. Lloyds and Nomad: Thanks for the reports. I have been going to Ucluelet for 20...

Fishing Trip West Coast Vancouver Island

I am leaving in a few days for a month of salmon fishing at Ucluelet on the west coast of VI. Any Brats going to be up that way this year? I will be there from 20 Jul to 18 Aug, staying at Island West Resort. Any Brats in the area be sure to stop by Camp CAVU for a drink and some fish...

    galley inprovements

Warren, I went to the trouble of insetting the plywood in the back of the piece of starboard because I only wanted the starboard to show. These pieces were installed along the cockpit walls to hold a boathook, gaff, halibut harpoon etc. I didn't want any wood out in the open to maintain. Yes...

    Curing 4200 on vertical surface?

Warren, For something as heavy as a fire extinguisher, I would go with epoxy. 5200 would probably be ok if your bock of wood has a large enough surface area. The stress of the weight will have a tendency to shear or peel the wood from the surface, especially in rough water.

    galley inprovements

Hank, The only two ideas I can pass along: I have used cherry finished with teak oil for some trim in the cabin and it is a very good match colorwise for teak trim that came with my 22 CD. For making anchor points to atach other items I have used starboard atach to the fiberglass walls with...

    topping off fuel tanks?

Rick, I just replaced my tanks because one of them cracked. New tanks are 23 gal and are about 2 in lower in height because they are designed to fit on the new molded floor which is higher. They are also about 2-3 in wider, so the center gap under the splashwell will be about 6 in narrower...

    topping off fuel tanks?

Joe, Another school of thought-if your pick-up tubes are right on the bottom you will be sucking up and filtering any crud as it accumulates and before it can build up to create a problem? My old tanks (2002) had a curved plastic tube for a pick-up, which put the screened end right along the...

    cruising on a c-dory

I think 2 weeks on 20 gallons of water is very optimistic-unless you are at a marina every night. For me that would barely cover drinking and cooking water for two weeks. Dishwashing, showers?
