    Tideminders

After worrying about my docklines everytime the wind picks up or the moon is full I decided to follow a neighbor's lead and invest in tideminders. Our C-Dory Navire is in a slip at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds marina at the northern end of the Chesapeake Bay, where tides rise and fall an...

    Centering boat on trailer

My trailer is a King with wobble rollers and 2x6 guide bunks mounted on either side. I replaced the wood (rotten) and carpet and reinstalled them. They keep the boat from pivoting too much in those times when wind and current wrestle the boat off-center.

    Centering boat on trailer

It does, but I'm still not understanding the advantages of posts over guide bunks -- posts will only constrain movement within certain angles -- bunks provide guidance along their entire length. I can see the advantages of posts for visual alignment, but don't see how they are an improvement to...

    Centering boat on trailer

That's interesting -- my roller trailer is setup that the fenders are never in contact with the hull (unless I'm WAY off).

When you think you've seen it all..

There are about as many steps in successfully launching and retrieving a boat at a ramp as there are taking off and landing a small aircraft. Most students take between 15 and 20 hours of dual instruction before they are competent enough to fly solo. But every day, somebody buys a boat and...

Good to know -- thanks! Is there a picture in your album that shows how you mounted the King Starboard sheets?

Thanks for the reply. That's interesting -- do the posts prevent the boat from drifting over the fenders?

    Centering boat on trailer

Not yet! I'm not convinced of the utility or effectiveness of the goal posts (but am open to reconsider based on those with more experience!) I center on the winch as my aiming point, with right-left aligned to the guide bunks (a bit like lining up the runway in a small aircraft using the...

    Centering boat on trailer

This is a very helpful discussion, but yesterday I had to pull the boat out of the water before the impending storm. I had to do it all solo and found the lack of help positively reduced the pressure and divided mind. I lined up the centerline with the hitch pedestal and drove the boat up onto...

Advice on mooring my boat for the summer

More knowledgeable folks should have a better answer but I tilt the motor up and rest it on the travel bracket. My mechanic said the newer four strokes drain in that position. The bay is freshwater that far north so I’m not concerned about seawater so that’s the end of my marginal input. 😁
