Good to know! I haven't tried extended running at 5-6 knots but it's good to hear it's not a problem (although a kicker for close-in maneuvering makes a lot of sense!)
Great pics and posts -- sounds like a good trip! My parents live further upstate and they were hammered with rain Monday...
Thanks for the post! We'd like to do part of the canal someday.
You may have mentioned this but I missed it: are you using a kicker motor for the canal? Our 115 would be lugging the entire time at 10 knots or less!
Our C22 came with 115HP Yamaha. It was stern-heavy with 1/2 tank or more of fuel (we travel light -- no overnights, equipment, etc).
After installing the Permatrim the rough water became much easier to handle. The only lesson I had to learn was tilt up when running with following seas.
Indeed.
It's always interesting when folks posit military gear for civilian use and ignore the battalion of mechanics, supply, and other technicians required to keep those machines operational.
I'd be interested in those pictures!
The anchor is set up the way it was when I bought it as I didn't know any better. Apparently, I need to know better.
This is helpful -- thanks for your reply!
Our CD22 came with a windlass and anchor installed. When it works, it's very nice -- push a button for down, push a button for up.
But that's happened once.
The normal sequence consists of several steps:
1. Find a nice spot to anchor.
2. Push down button on windlass control.
3. Watch anchor...
Thanks for providing a ready example of sophistry and reductionism.

For those not inclined to score points in a fabricated joust, I'd like to observe that multiple sources of energy for propulsion are welcome.
Every power source has trade-offs. It's best when we...
An argument is not a grievance. It's a set of propositions that together form a point. The point is rather simple: not everyone is on the all-electric-now bandwagon, and for very good reasons.
It's likely that >99% of vessels listed on this site are powered by IC engines using gasoline or...
Misquote: I said it is unfair to describe electric as "eco-friendly" and assume IC engines are not. In fact, it's clear electric motors are superficially "green" as they appear to have no visible emissions while shielding operators from the generation, transmission, and storage of energy...
I'm fine with options.
I just don't think it's fair to assume one option is "eco-friendly" and the other is not when the term is so ambiguous as to be pointless.
It's also unfair to assume that everyone in all cases will adopt and apply technology at the same rate and for the same purposes. I...
...and thousands of miles of coastline, many miles of open water, significant tides, currents, rough water, and pop-up storms.
I'll take propulsion in the air and on water refined over a century for now, thanks.
I think this is the answer! The rub wear spot is about 4 inches wide on either aft cleat. I ordered 4 6" NoWear guards and plan to apply them as soon as they arrive!
I've read with interest the threads of Gelcoat touchup, repainting, etc, but I only have a couple of spots of concern. These are on the stern underneath the rear cleats.
My slip is subject to tides that vary as much as four feet and every so often winds from the north make it quite rough. I use...
Indeed! We’re planning on going early to avoid the hottest part of the day (and the likelihood of Thunderstorms).
Sorry you can’t make it, but completely understand!
