Yeah, but it is kinda nice to go fast whenever it's an option. 8)

    Carl Kiekhafaer's Legacy

It's really hard to get through the over-the-top sales dudes trying to one-up each other's faux enthusiasm. I mean, yeah, it's cool (as most innovations are) but the hard sell diminishes the accomplishment IMHO. (Then again, I mute any ad that ever pops up on my TV so I'm not exactly a fan of...

    Local C-Dory? MD

I'm based at Aberdeen at the top of the bay, if that's closer. We own a 22' Cruiser.

    Towing speed (?)

Good question! I’ve done two long tows of our CD 22 so far: the first to pick it up (GA to PA) and the second to NY Thousand Islands and back. I’m very happy with the performance of our new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with Duramax Diesel. It pulls well, always feels in control, and slows and...

    A small adventure

Ah yes— finger piers! What’s worse is the brand new install has tapered piers that go from 2’ wide to 8” wide. I am assigned a slip where the prevailing winds mean a bow in approach and tie-up makes more sense, so it’s not easy to get on and off for anyone less than limber or athletic. The...

I like that! I will use that whenever I need to make more "investments" :-)

Absolutely -- I've had too many expensive hobbies anyway! :-)

New to the forum. And new owner of a 22' Angler

Welcome from another pair of new owners (our honeymoon started a few years ago, but still continuing!)

    A small adventure

A C-Dory Postscript: We saw many boats out on the water -- some were luxurious, other spartan, quite a few modern and overpowering. But the more boats I saw the more I appreciate the C-Dory. She sips gas, takes on swells from all angles with nary a complaint, is well-appointed with gear and...

    A small adventure

This past Saturday my lovely wife Janet and I enjoyed a perfect day out on the Chesapeake Bay in our 22' C-Dory. We celebrated our 40th (fortieth) anniversary by having a nice lunch in Havre de Grace. We walked around town a bit and then headed to the APG Marina where Navire is snugly tied up in...

    C-dory 25 or 26 tow weight question.

I have been very impressed with the Silverado Duramax diesel. Plenty of torque, stable at speed, and great MPG (we averaged 17 mpg to/ from northern NY and that includes many miles up and down PA”s endless series of ridges).

To repower, or not to repower , that is the question?

I suspect you know the answer but are seeking validation. In that case (as a new C-Dory owner) my recommendation is "sell the current boat and buy a C-Dory." You should be able to purchase a very nice used boat for less than $70k.

    Boating Alone

This has been a helpful discussion! I went out for the first time solo on the C-Dory last Saturday on the Chesapeake. I think the PFD advice is solid, so is the warning to cut engines to idle before heading out of the cabin. The bay was pretty well sprinkled with boats, but after heading out a...

    Shower for C-22

I've used one of these on long canoe camping trips: https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/Seattle-Sports-PVC-Free-Solar-Shower--5-Gallon?ds_e=MICROSOFT&ds_c=Shop%7CGeneric%7CAllProducts%7CHigh%7CSSCCatchAll&gclid=3a334eee50ee1320b9d22e111124dc97&gclsrc=3p.ds&msclkid=3a334eee50ee1320b9d22e111124dc97 I...

    St Lawrence River Planning

That’s an interesting question — can pleasure boats transit the locks on the Canadian side? After all, it is an international asset. This page seems to imply transit is open for all, though locks near Montreal are still restricting to ONE passage per day (!)...

A (very late) Review of Master and Commander

I'm assuming most C-Dory fans also enjoy sea yarns. If so, you should read Patrick O'Brien's Aubrey-Maturin series. The movie adaptation came out a few years ago and I approached it with some trepidation (as all readers approach adaptations). This is one I find improves with each successive...

    St Lawrence River Planning

"If you’re not comfortable with locks, there is a route through the control dam, one upstream passage and one downstream passage if you do not draw more than 8.5 feet. " From Powerboating (Canada): https://powerboating.com/st-lawrence-ri ... 0-islands/ HOWEVER, I think this is incorrect. I...

    St Lawrence River Planning

Good question! I suspect the more popular locations in the Thousand Islands area may need reservations. I tried to contact CC via email and phone call, but wasn’t assured a slip until I showed up, wandered around the Marina store for a bit, and finally hailed someone that looked like he was in...

    Steiner 7x50

Steiner warrior 7x50 binoculars Military Marine These were as close as I could find to my issue binos when I was a tank platoon leader. Bought them on ebay from a seller in Lithuania. A bit of a gamble but they arrived intact two weeks later.
