    Princess Louisa Cruise Help

Pat makes a good point about the Fraser River delta. The is a lot of shallow (and often very muddy) water a looooong way out into the Strait. I should mention, also, that on a couple of occasions we have crossed the Strait of Georgia south of Nanaimo. Depending on the tides and the amount of...

    Princess Louisa Cruise Help

You've already gotten lots of good advice and opinions. I agree with Tom. I much prefer the "western" route to Nanaimo, and then across the Straight of Georgia. I've done that many times, usually as part of a longer trip North, but also with Princess Louisa as a destination. The few times...

Cleaning mold out of old foam

We had a two-layer mattress topper made locally for our boat. It was a great addition. We liked it so much we had one made for our pull-out guest bed at home. Sorry (but not surprised :?) to hear the cost has shot up!

Why does my steering stiffen up at speed?

Is turning hard in both directions? Did the problem crop up suddenly? Had the boat been sitting for a while before the problem started? You definitely want to look into this. Losing control, especially at higher speeds - YIKES!

    The C-Disaster 22' C-Dory Refit in Alaska

Congratulations! I believe I saw your boat parked on the main drag in Petersburg last year. Your description of its condition sounds about right! One of the few times I didn't have a camera with me. I've got pictures in my album of just about every C-Dory I've ever seen in P'Burg. ". . . It...

2006 Cape Cruiser cabin to cockpit sole joint

Well, I used to own one. Does this count as 4? I don't have anything to add on the question posed, however.

    Race to Alaska

I have to say I'm ready to be greatly disappointed by this route change. R2Ak will almost certainly no longer be the "Inside Passage" race it was originally advertised as. With Bella Bella as the only checkpoint between start and finish, it will be possible to do the entire trip in more or...

    22' Cruiser vs 23' Venture

If you just copy your postings title (22' Cruiser vs 23' Venture) and paste it in the search box at the upper left of this screen, you will find a ton of information and opinion on the subject. Happy reading!

What's your favorite fish for the table ?

I have to agree. Smoked Black Cod. It's too buttery rich for some, but I find it absolutely delicious. I would never turn down a fresh Sockeye or King. Or Halibut. Or crab.

    Honda's new Generator

One review I found said 58.4 lbs - so a little more than the 2000/2200. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hh9Cw3myz-w

    Anchor Drum Winch

When I was toying with the idea of a drum winch, Lone Star was the brand I was looking at. Their testing results were really impressive. As always, a bit of skepticism is in order when a manufacturer tests its own product, but the winches appear to be very well built and durable. I never got...

    Wallas stove fuel

Some of the stoves are designed to burn Diesel. Some are designed to burn Kerosene (which in some places is called Paraffine). Klean Heat is a Kerosene substitute. It is not Diesel. I had a Kerosene stove and a Kerosene heater on my boat. I burned Klean Heat in both. In 8 years of heavy...

    Wallas stove fuel

You have to know what model you have before you can know what fuel to use. Call Scan Marine.

    Anchor Drum Winch

I toyed with the idea of this exact kind of system several times. Things to keep in mind about Spectra (Dyneema, as well): As you noted, they have about zero stretch; The are not well-suited for most knots - too slippery; They float.

    C-Dory 22 Accident

I mounted a Tri-Lens reflector. (I mounted the all-around light on the same stalk.) The reflector had excellent reviews at the time I bought it, about 15 years ago. Unfortunately, I think they are no longer made. I don't know if there is anything equivalent available today.

Thanks for that link! Wind and water with people and their boats in between. The boats keep changing. The rest never does.

    Permatrims: My 2 cents

You won't get any argument from me! I am a big fan and proponent of Permatrims. I made my first round trip to Alaska without them, and my next two with. Night and day difference - especially heading into short chop. With Permatrims on twin engines, I found no need for trim tabs.
