    Handheld VHFs with GPS/DSC

Ssobol: Of course that is true and I wasn’t suggesting it as a permanent solution.

    Handheld VHFs with GPS/DSC

I have the Icom M93D, slightly older model with GPS/DSC but no AIS. Great radio. I registered it to get an MMSI number, easy to do online if you’re a BoatUS member. It’s a chunky radio, too big for most pockets, but it has a belt clip. Also you can get an adapter to attach an external antenna...

    C-Dory 22 Accident

There is a lot of confusion about what kind of boat it was. This article describes it as an “aluminum C-Dory”. https://www.newportnewstimes.com/news/o ... a4d0b.html Others describe it simply as a “dory”.

    Moisture control under v-berth mattress

Another vote for Hypervent. We lived aboard fulltime for 2 years on two different boats (30’ houseboat and a 35’ yacht) and used it both times to great success.

Filling holes in the deck in the bilge area

My 1988 16’er had the same blocks of wood screwed to the floor. Maybe they are a factory install? I’m hoping to reuse some to mount a new fuel tank.

    New seats in: 1988 C-Dory 16

Mine has a lock on it, yes. No key for the lock came with my boat so I had to put in a new lock assembly, but that was easy.

    New seats in: 1988 C-Dory 16

That hatch cover is for some kind of built-in tackle box. It has pull-out shelves to hold plastic tackle organizers. Came with the boat; I guess a prior owner installed it. Throttle placement seems OK. I don’t have a lot of seat time with the boat yet, so we’ll see.

    New seats in: 1988 C-Dory 16

It took a while to figure out the right parts to do this, so I thought I’d post all that in case it helps others. I had to find just the right pedestal to fit the existing holes in the floor. In the end, everything was a simple bolt-in and the actual installation only took a few minutes. Seat...

And here’s the new seats. Much better!

    New seats in: 1988 C-Dory 16

When we bought our boat it needed lots of TLC, especially the seats. The helm seat was filthy and pretty much destroyed, and the other completely missing, including all the mounting hardware. Here’s what we started with — yuck!

Where to find manual wiper lever?

I ended up getting this Sea Dog one, $39 from Fisheries Supply. Fits like a glove!

16 C-Dory in NC needs more ventilation for summer! Ideas?

Keegster: Yes, please give us a pic of your “yogq pants” and rig. Roof paint: You can also get heat-reflecting paint in white. It’s for residential roofs so dunno if it will work on fiberglass.

16 C-Dory in NC needs more ventilation for summer! Ideas?

If you’re not doing a shade cover, it seems a 10x10 hatch as suggested by thataway would be the way to go. Make them forward-opening and put one over each seat and you’d be pulling a breeze directly onto each passenger. You could then have insulated hatch covers on them, when closed, for shade.

16 C-Dory in NC needs more ventilation for summer! Ideas?

Subscribing to hear everyone’s ideas! I may need something for our 16-footer as well, come summertime. One thought is to shade the roof somehow. There’s a guy in Youtube (Back Waters and Back Roads) who has a Yakima type roof basket on his 16-footer. Add a thin plastic or plywood panel in the...

    Electric Outboards

I recently investigated electric power as well. One of the companies I reached out to was Pure. They were extremely responsive and helpful and worked hard to answer all my questions, including range and speed estimates specific to my 16’ C-Dory. This included a personal call with one of their...

Mounting battery: Drilling into the floor...?

The reason I’m scared by this idea of drilling into the floor is that my boat is in the water fulltime and I don’t have a trailer. So I may go with the epoxy trick. Or maybe move the battery forward to the cuddy.

Marco: That sounds scary. I’ll search prior posts for more ideas.
