Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

Idleup, Why rock the boat? These are two totally different boats. I ran the first 21ec off the line and loved it. 8 knots is not a good speed for the 21. I like 5.5-6 knts for cruise and enjoy every minute. Some of us are just not in a hurry, enjoy parking the boat in the driveway, like to tow...

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

So I totally disagree with all points. Different strokes... the 21ec is a cool little boat. Dusty

    Arima to C-Dory

I have (or have had) both C-Dory and Arima. Both fine boats, but your points are all valid. The CD hull is noisier and won't take the chop as well as your 19 Arima. OTOH the C-Dory has its own advantages. If you want more just PM or email. My current boat is a 22 CD and I fish the Arima whenever...

    Bottom Fishing

I'm a cheap old coot. Go to the tire shop, get a bucket of old used weights -- drill a hole in each end -- hook in one end, cheap swivel the other -- and fish are in the boat. Don't giggle until you try it! Bottom fishing for ling and brought up a 20# salmon (filet and release size). Dusty

08/17 - Gulf Islands, Part Two

Great write up, Ruth -- I really tear up not being there with that pod of Brats. :cry Keep the stories coming, sweet one, and lets meet at Anacortes or some place near by -- have a ton of genealogy books for you. Or have you given that up? Sorry for the OT.

    SMART TABS

As usual, Dr. Bob is spot on IMO. If you just once get in a following sea of any size, you will rush home and take those rascals off. I see little advantage to them (except they are already there and cheap), and many disadvantages. And yes, I've had them -- and also the kind that Charlie (that...

    Need advice!

All good advice, Steve -- After 5 Arima and 7 C Dory boats, I still think it is purely a personal lifestyle choice. I'll be shrimping tomorrow on my partner's 21 Arima (150 Honda), really like the 22 Arima Les has at EQ -- and we personally have a 22 C Dory -- and my son-in-law has a 22 C Dory...

Darn Near Pulled the Trigger on a Fifth Wheel

Pat one-eye -- Those decisions are tough! Because my employer required that we move from coast to coast on a regular basis, we tried all sorts of mobile gadgets. Many motorhomes, several 5th wheels, campers, etc. Motels with 2 adults, 3 kids, and dogs just ain't all happiness. We NEED to tow...

    Tru Confessions

Ooops! My little tongue in check jab at the Marines was all in jest!! My brother was a 3 purple heart WWII Marine, and my Marine brother-in-law was dumb enough to cover a grenade thrown in his gun position in Korea. One of the "Chosin Few." Absolute, no sierra, total respect!! Dusty

    08/15 - 08/17, 2008 Bellingham, WA CBGT

Robbi, Oh for the good old days! In an old lifetime we lived on the corner of Sloat and Lopez in the 17 mi. drive loop. Had hay bales in front of the yard, and we could sit and watch 'em whiz by.  :love Dusty

Help - problem with 2002 Honda BF40 at beginning of trip!

Roger, Sorry to be so uninformative on the phone. I believe the water from the P-tube is NOT at engine cooling water temp. As I recall (oops), that is "bypass" water from the thermostat -- not water that has been cooling the engine. I'll chat with Les in a few minutes and get back to you...

And the medical issues keep coming

Just found this thread! Great news that you are on the mend. Can't keep a good man down, eh?? I'm another BTDT, but my fishing partner (for 8 years) is an eye doc -- nice to have him along, and having your doc sailing in the same area is a huge plus. All best wishes for a rapid recovery! Dusty

    Depth transducer location?

Tom, You are probably right on the 20 degrees - but I ran with the ducer on one of the trim tabs for years. Really liked it and may do it again. Because, using about 200 KC, the transmitted signal is pretty broad I didn't notice much error. Got good arches (dunno why)... and I could easily...

    Frequent Sea's adventures

Larry, As always, you are right! This old white head has spent too many hours/days fighting that hunk of nasty water. It's just not a good place to be for any small boat with an inexperienced driver. You can do it, Bob can do it, I could have done it a few years ago  , but hull shape...
