    various 22 Cruiser measurements

I have dridek in the cockpit & no contour issues on the C-Dory floor cooled by cold Lake Superior waters - yes, hard on bare feet. Very flexible when in the sun on a warm day (that's too flexible but that's only a day or three/year on Lake Superior) but I would guess (almost guarantee) still...

    Upgrades for Hammerhead

For me too many systems/things to buy/install/maintain and valuable storage space gone but each to their own; we'll see what others chime in with. Jay

    Lenco Trim Tab Problem

I replaced one; ordered it somewhere off the web. Simple to replace especially if your wires from the control switches had the same connectors the new one came with. Of course my old ones did not (probably the same for you considering your vintage), so I think I used a standard...

    Sunbathing?

I have a 2002 high top CD22 and the roof is not very thick or strong. Lots of flex and I drilled through on the flats between the edge of the roof and the high top and it was not thick fiberglass and coring was only about 1/8 inch thick. A 2002 anomaly or my own one-off anomaly?? Jay

    Les Lampman Passed Away

Sorry I never got to meet him but thoroughly enjoyed and learned from all his thoughtful and knowledgeable posts. Helped me a lot as a newbie. It was obvious from his many posts what an outstanding person he was. RIP and condolences to his family & friends. Jay

    Problem of the day

If your tape fails too soon, try GE silicone. I've used it to caulk the sauna's wood stove flue against a metal plate in the sauna wall. Worked great for many many sauna seasons (sauna season = all year). Once I tried the Permatex high temp (red) gel gasket and it did not last nearly as long as...

    Fuel Selector Valve Decal

2002 CD22 fuel selector had no "all" position. When my decal faded, I had a local jewelry/trophy shop engrave black painted aluminum plates (therefore very contrasting aluminum writing) with sticky backs. Worked great for 10 or more years and still great; also did some more plates for added...

    rear lifting foil

I had a similar looking devise but a lot smaller on my 15Hp Johnson on a 14 foot open skiff and it gave the stern significant lift. It was actually a skeg guard with a small wing on the bottom, called a rock hopper motor guard that I got from Cabela's but can't find it on their online catalog...

    Wallas stove

On my old 2001 era Wallas I used kerosene and got no smell. With my new 2018 two burner (old two burner ceramic top cracked and no replacement ceramics available as new one is slightly different dimensions) I use diesel and no smell and never spilled any diesel either - two seasons used. I think...

    Tips for fishing Isle Royale

First - isn't 46 degrees warm? After all it's liquid! Now on to fishing which I've had some experience at at Isle Royale. Colby got the regulations spot on and most of the lure and equipment recommendations are good but of course everyone has their own favorites. To get the regs in writing go...

    Minks in my C Dory!

Brass or bronze wool also works good for plugging holes - obviously never rusts. Available at hardware stores and maybe art supply stores. Jay

    battery question

Lead acid batteries will gas (hydrogen) off; I imagine those "sealed" batteries would still be able to leak some gas. AGM (absorbant glass mat) batteries do not gas off - a very good thing for batteries in an enclosed cabin. I would go with AGM's. Jay

wintering below freezing on the water

Rob wrote: The problem is you need to start the engine to have a pee stream. If the channels are blocked by ice by the time you determine you don't have a stream it may be too late to prevent a damaged impellor. Jay

wintering below freezing on the water

To expand on Colby's concern of water freezing in the engine; my concern would be running the engine with ice blocking the internal water channels thus burning the rubber water pump impellors and that ends your boating until you pull the boat and the lower engine housing to replace the...
