SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

I completely agree with you, ssobol, which is why I was practicing. I've come in here many times with wind and current from a variety of directions so I am careful to think in advance about which way I'm going to get blown. And I would prefer to have company, but I don't want to sit home any...

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

I spent about 40 minutes practicing my solo docking! That may not sound big, but it is what held me back from ever taking my other boat out alone. I always did the driving and docking....but never alone. I'd pull in and let someone else jump out to tie up, or vice versa. After today I realize...

    GPS advice sought

Richard, I will give him a call if everything checks out this weekend and is working. thanks. It is helpful to talk to a real person. Brent, I am not that tech savvy, really, but I'm learning. ( I just googled 'difference between GPS and chartplotter') I haven't known quite what to research...

    GPS advice sought

Bob, I hadn't seen your post before writing my last one. All the compatibility pages say the Gold should work in my unit, but both the Navionics folks and TigerGPS say 'no' - I need the blank 2G and to download my own. I wasn't sure how well that actually worked, but it's good to hear you...

    GPS advice sought

Thanks for the input. No Cabelas or West Marines within a 2 hour flight from here, but we have two local marine stores and one of the top 10 (bottom 10?) smallest WalMarts in the world. I can at least get information and maybe demonstrations to help me decide. I have a Standard Horizon GPS on...

    GPS advice sought

The C-dory I bought from Washington has a 2008 model Lowrance LMS 525c df unit on it. Of course the charts installed are for USA West. I looked up compatibility and everything I saw indicated that the Navionics Gold for Canada and Southeast Alaska would work in it. I ordered one from TigerGPS...

    16 cruiser seat

While those seats look amazing, Mark, I'm going to have to stick with the cheaper option for now. I'm finding so many unanticipated expenses involved in outfitting a basically new boat! I'm trying to prioritize my 'needs' v.s. 'wants' (though you could argue they are mostly just varying levels...

    16 cruiser seat

Rod, that's an interesting approach to the problem, but too ambitious for me. I hope someone has some insight for you. Roger, Google is usually my forte and you are right: there are quite a few seat slides to be found. I checked Amazon since Prime shipping is important to me. I noticed that...

    16 cruiser seat

I'm a bit ashamed to say that I have not actually gotten out on the water in my new boat, but I did get it to my house, removed the Washington numbers and put mine on. That was a pain. I have been sitting in it off and on and noticed that it really bothers me not to be able to swivel all the...

    Trim tabs

Thanks all; hopefully Scott has found these comments on his thread as helpful as I have  I jumped the gun a bit as I think trim tabs will be next summer's plan - this summer I will install a Permatrim. I am confident in doing that myself, and am actually very good with construction...

    Trim tabs

Thanks, Scott. There was a bit of disagreement in that thread with some proponents of the 5200 purely, and some for the thickened epoxy. I've read a lot of good advice from Bob from thataway on here and would probably go with that. Which method exactly were you recommending? Jackie

    Trim tabs

Not to hi-jack your thread, but I plan to have trim tabs installed on my new-to-me 16, and don't intend to do it myself. So....is it reasonable to ask my mechanic to do it a specific way? Will he be insulted if I say "Please be sure and seal this appropriately as I don't want water getting...

    Baby steps...

Hmmm, Dave, that law seems a bit unfair to women! I'll stick to the bucket and take my chances with the coast guard before I go hanging over the edge! Thorne, good luck with your teaching in Met. You are probably quite used to small town teaching if you've been working for SE Island SD. If you...
