    house battery not charging

The battery is brand spankin' new, and charged quite well for three or four trips. The ACR is less than a year old, but still, could be bad. It seems like the switch should be fine. Does that seem right? I think I'll just go through the ACR And put it back together and test. I may kick...

    house battery not charging

I have a mini ACR, and have discovered a very new anxiety!! My start battery is charging and isolating just fine, but my house battery is not charging at all. I've verified this with meters to each battery while charging via alternator, and with the motor off. This is new! Just happened...

    Possible Great deal?

It strikes me that we sometimes have good conversations that start around a craigslist ad, (or some other ad) that inevitably goes away at some point. For those in the future looking for info via search, it might be helpful if the ads were presented, like a screen shot, or cut and paste...

I'm fuming so I'd better vent or I'll explode

I have to say that of the brands, I think lowrance/simrad have some of the better plug-and-play stuff. At least across the HDS line. You can network units together and your latest unit will impart its abilitys to the older units, and you can add on the same AP and radar across several...

I'm fuming so I'd better vent or I'll explode

I've had similar experiences around many retail establishments selling pretty expensive boat and fishing gear. I would prefer to have a relationship with a person at a reputable and reliable retail establishment than cost-shave on the internet and bag the lowest cost, but those options are...

    Comparing MPH vs. RPM

Yeah, holy smokes, that should be about 3.6 GPH fuel consumption! 5.33 MPG!! Nice!!!

    Comparing MPH vs. RPM

You would need to compare those results to the spec for your motor. Without knowing that, it's tough to tell you whether you are propped right. I would say you are definitely not propped too low. Is your boat struggling to get on step? Does the engine fail to gain RPM quickly as you advance...

    Slow cruise problems?

For modern 4 strokes there is no problem. If you do this, and maintain them properly they will last longer than if you run them at 4500 rpm as a rule, all other things equal. This would not necessarily be the case with older, carburated 2 stroke motors that have issues because the oil is in...

Not one but two Marinauts for sale!!

All of my work boats have forward raked windshields, but it's frustrating to me that none of our electronics are mounted up and forward in that vast space for such things. I love having my screens up and forward. They don't block your view and you can see them and access them easily. Can't...

Not one but two Marinauts for sale!!

I think the real choice at these prices are whether you'd have one of these or a 25. Personally, I'd go big, but the Marinauts are super nice boats, and seem to have a lot of the benefits of the CD22. The saddle tanks were pointed out as a benefit, but I seem to recall older 1980s CD22s having...

    Drilling Holes in Transom

I want to add one more point about using thickened epoxy for this: Yes, it seems like the thick stuff won't flow, but it will. Be mindful of temperatures, and use the appropriate catalyst for the day. Mix up a bit more epoxy than you will use, maybe 3x or more. Keeping a larger volume of...

    Drilling Holes in Transom

It is thickened with cabosil. I did paint the inside of the holes with unthickened epoxy first, but didn't take a pic. I have only used this technique on horizontal fills where I've had to remove more core than would be necessary (usually because of some core issue or another), but with just a...

Source for 1.5" thick end grain balsa sheets?

I'm not building anything really. I have a CD22 and have addressed many of the issues regarding screw hole penetrations in my cockpit sole, however I've had a couple spots where I've left wet core (not rotten, just wet) in to be addressed later in one fell swoop. These are the standard...

Source for 1.5" thick end grain balsa sheets?

Looks like only 1" thick at Fiberlay, and at nearly $600 a sheet, I think the 1.5" thick offering from eBay is the way to go at $85 a sheet. I wouldn't mind finding another source or two if they are out there.

GPS and VHF shot - do I replace or leave it to the next owne

You could always try to find an inexpensive replacement on craigslist. Maybe even duplicates of what you have so install would be easy. Older gear is pretty inexpensive, even if you find NOS. Then you could sell a turn-key boat but not have to ask a lot more for having put a bunch of $ into...

My Mechanic's suggestions - looking for validation

I've definitely had my bilge pump run my battery out and had quite a bit of water to deal with after, but she stayed floating thanks to the harbormaster!! But that's on a 22 cruiser, which is a bathtub. Your tomcat should drain most of the rainwater through its scuppers.
