    Flashlights on board.

Hi Harvey, I thought of a pun. "Lighten up and look on the bright side of life". Courtesy of Monty Python. Martin.

    Flashlights on board.

I to use to have a drawer full of flashlights onboard. Every Spring I would load them up with batteries and every Fall I would take all the batteries out again so they did not leech. Which ones did I actually use during the boating season? Well, I only used my favorite one of course. It did...

Great windlass, lousy anchor. Get a new generation anchor like a Rocna or Manson Supreme. You will sleep better at nights. Trust me.

Installed a Lone Star GX2 anchor winch

When I bought my boat, the chain was attached to a swivel and the swivel to the anchor. I changed that immediately to....the chain to the swivel, the other end of the swivel to 3 links of chain, the other end of the 3 links to a shackle, then the shackle to the anchor. My local chandler showed...

Performance Differences between C-22 and C-25

I had a 22 for 6 years. Loved that little boat. Note the operative word.....little! IMO the 22 is great for day trips for a couple and maybe a couple of kids, and great for a single person (just ask Harvey). Fine for a couple on extended trips 7 to 10 days, (but with problems, read on). The...

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Yep I was a sailor (RN as well). Took up sailing around 1980, had several sail boats from 22' to 33', switched to the dark side with Nomad 2011. Sold Nomad 2017 and bought a Camano Troll. As we got older, found our C-Dory getting smaller! Admiral said the dinette seats and the v-berth were...

Any C-dory owners traveling by Campbell river this summer?

Put me down as the foolish one. I had never even seen a C-Dory let alone step on one! The first thing I did was organise the 2012 gathering in Comox. My reasoning was, well, by the time the gathering arrives I will have hopefully seen one, stepped on one, and bought one. I did get my C-Dory...

    Gotta be a short!

I do not attempt any fix that can endanger life or my boat unless I am 100% sure I know what I am doing. Me personally, I would bring in a marine electrician, check the system and change both batteries. Then sleep assured that all is well as you start from day one with your new to you boat...

Looking for single burner gimbled propane stove

Why no mention of the one burner butane stoves? They are very affordable at around $30. I have used one for years, never a problem. The stove lives in it's box and stored under the dinette table when not in use, and the butane canisters live out in the cockpit. I always use it if I do not want...

    Mooring on a buoy

It is a great photo showing two boats sharing a buoy. Just because these boats are rafted up, are you saying that no matter what the wind/tide/current does, neither of these boats will bump the buoy? Am I missing something? I don't get it! Martin.

    Mooring on a buoy

I'm sure you are right Mike. Come to think of it, all the limitations (one boat to a buoy) I have seen, have been in BC waters. Martin.

    Mooring on a buoy

Not wishing to sound negative but........Rafted up with another boat would be more worrisome to me at 2am if the wind picked up than the odd bump into the buoy. Also, as I recall, buoys in the PNW do not allow 2 boats to a buoy. Martin.

    Mooring on a buoy

This does not answer the question on how to stop banging on a buoy. But while we are talking about mooring to a buoy, I'll add in what I used to do. My mooring buoy rope was 16' or 18' long. At each end was a large super strong stainless steel snap hook. When along side the buoy (at the...
