    Bad stuff in BC

We were in Tofino a couple weeks ago and return there this weekend. Our friend has a B&B across from Jamie's and he and the Village are much in shock over this accident. The good folks over in Ahousat were on scene very quickly to get people out of the water. Thank god for their actions...

    Running without thermostats

What the others said plus your internal zincs (if any) need changing every 100 hours or so, many times they don't get changed as owners may not be aware of them They tend to expand and crumble as they age blocking the water passages My mechanic says he see it regularly George

    Lighting for night transit

Having run hundreds of night miles under sail and power I wouldn't recomend lights They are illegal in Canada and many countries Here you would attract a visit by police or coast guard as you look suspicious Homeland security likely want to know why , where you are Your vision gets used to low...

    Suzuki 150EFI losing power...

Glad it seems gone, one comment though if you have less than 100 hours in 7 years it wants to run more! Likely old gas, don't fill tanks if you won't use the fuel Use Stabil to keep fuel fresh and buy "mission" fuel ie just want you figure you'll burn as it goes bad quickly, we try to run 100+...

    Bilge water?

Sorry to hear about your issue, check Pacific Wander album for ideas. Several Ventures had water issues in '07-'08 Do you have factory washdown pump? This was poorly installed in Pacific Wanderer and was leaking into the hull. Rubrail leaks perhaps? Good luck George

    Electric Brakes

We've found many salt water ramps with no water nearby so we use the portable shower aboard, a converted garden sprayer It's only a gallon but can rinse pretty well, when we get back to town we find a car wash and do a good rinse Having gone to surge disc last year we are very happy, we'll pull...

    Cutwater 24

Exactly, the more experienced the mariner the less impressed by the "stuff." "You must be able to get at everything in a boat, it all fails at some point. I see so much turnover in some lines with new boaters unable to deal with the realities of boating. The 300 hp outboard on 24 ft says it...

    Broughton Cruising Aug 2015

The Broughtons are great! We enjoyed traveling with our bud Harvey so much, wildlife was abundant compared to Desolation Sound. Way fewer boats around, many days glassy water and no rain, just a bit of fog. For several days Harvey was telling us about the awesome fish and chips at Port...

    Compass required?

I have the compass directly in front of the helm, I'd feel funny without it. I always am checking it's reading to the gps heading I for one need a good fixed mount compass aboard El and Bill you'll be surprised at the dip up north, just where you really need a compass they don't work, they dip...
