    Closure of San Miguel Island.

Exactly. That's why I expect Vasquez felt he had a pretty good reason for closing the island, not to mention having to justify to his superiors scraping up nearly a half million bucks to finance the "security sweep," as they called it. I expect the heart of this issue is the usual failure to be...

    Closure of San Miguel Island.

Here is a news article on the issue that seems to cover many of the issues. It talks about the Foundation's (Daily's) concerns and the Navy's issues. http://stage.independent.com/news/2014/jul/15/san-miguel-island-closure-irks-officials/

    Closure of San Miguel Island.

Sounds like someone found some unexploded ordnance which would be quite possible if any part of the island was ever used as a bombing range. It's not uncommon for bombs or artillery shells to get embedded in the ground and be exposed years later by erosion. It's also possible that the military...

    Questions for CD22 Angler Owners

    1. That is a steep price for the stove from the factory. I told my dealer that I'd buy the stove and install it myself. We worked out a deal where the dealer would install the stove considerably cheaper than the factory price. I like the single burner Walas but there are other options for...

New CD22 Angler - good idea?

The computer I use there measures 11.5"x7" but is less than 1/2" thick. I mount it with a suction cup mount from RAM. I'm not sure how much bigger the Garmin unit is but here is a photo of my setup.

    Anybody Using OpenCPN Navigation Software?

Well that's understandable considering that only about 7% of computer users are using Macs. You might try the OpenCpn forum at the Cruisers & Sailing site: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f134/ A larger user base there so there may be someone more familiar with Macs and Apple operating...

    Anybody Using OpenCPN Navigation Software?

Mostly the USB puck, $35 on Amazon a couple of years ago. Sometimes a Garmin Oregon connected via USB, and a few times the GPS in my cell phone via Bluetooth just to see if it would work.

    Anybody Using OpenCPN Navigation Software?

I guess that would depend on how old the MacBook Pro is, they've been out since '06. I've got a four year old Netbook that runs OpenCpn just fine. You might trying changing some of the settings that make it run better on underpowered Windows systems: http://opencpn.org/ocpn/Low_Power_Systems...

    Anybody Using OpenCPN Navigation Software?

I run OpenCpn on a Samsung Series 7 Slate tablet computer. It runs under Windows 7 with a GPS connected via USB or Bluetooth. Everything runs quickly. I use the charts downloaded free from the NOAA website. I was really surprised at how often they are updated, sometimes every few days. I save...

    vavigation lights question

My 2013 came the same way. On mine there was a jumper on the back of the switch panel that was connected to the wrong terminal. I spent a few minutes with a cheap volt meter and made a diagram of which terminals were hot/not with the switch in each position (nav lights, off, anchor light) and...

    Ozark built C-Dory

The hull has a nice shape to it but the cabin doesn't. I can't help but wonder if the builder used a decent set of plans for the hull but then just put a "quick and easy" cabin on it.

    Oil bath bearing oil change.

I'm getting ready to change the oil in my oil bath bearings (EZ Loader trailer). The manual says to use "SAE 50W or 90W gear oil." Does that mean hypoid gear oil like I use in my motorcycle transmission and final drive or some other type of "gear oil?" And, does the 3/16" allen screw fill need...

Quart pump for lower unit oil.

Getting ready to change the lower unit oil in my BF90d. I'm looking for a pump to fit the quart bottle of oil and the fill on the lower unit. I've found several brands, all of them fairly cheap. Is there a particular brand that holds up over time? Frankly, from the photos I've seen I'm not sure...

    Raymarine vs. Garmin

Only on mulit-day trips. I use it to check email, weather, and plan routes which I then download to the Garmin Zumo. Route planning is easy with the larger screen compared to the small screen on the motorcycle GPS. On the boat I use a GlobalSat BU-353-S4 USB GPS receiver which is a small...

    Raymarine vs. Garmin

Same here. I wanted a bigger screen than the lower end chart plotters but the big screens were stupidly expensive. I use OpenCPN on a Samsung Series 7 Slate tablet computer. It's a touchscreen device, runs Window 7 just like my computer at home, and has an 11.6 inch screen. I update to the...

Rear deck light and thru hull

I used Techflex brand "Flexo PET" for the cabin wiring in my boat. I've heard it called many things, usually cable sleeving or braided cable sleeving. There are other manufacturers. Depending on where you live you might be able to find it locally at electrical supply houses or places that sell...

where did most put heater exhaust thru hull?

A white sock like this? This is the fiberglass sleeve the my Wallas comes with. At least, I think it is fiberglass. I may actually be some other fabric. Wallas would know for sure. It does work quite well. Without it the exhaust pipe would quickly burn my hand but with it I could hold it...
